RooMajak went in as underdogs but the match was in the balance on Saturday evening due to an astute trade of Shenton to Stevie J by Rooboy18 and a superb 113pts by Matthew...
Last round will be remembered for the exceptional performances of the Gold Coast Suns and GWS. Upsetting Geelong and Carlton respectively, the two newest clubs of the AFL are delivering on their potential. From a SC perspective, Harley Bennell topped the charts after 6 goals while everyone's favourite Demon, Bernard Vince, and Gary Ablett rounded out the top 3.
We are starting to get to a point in the season where plenty of coaches are running out of trades, have nearly completed their teams and are holding off on trades for the time being. It's time for most people to focus on making the top 8 or top 4 in their leagues. It's a season where consistent scorers have been hard to find, which is the focus on this week's Podfather.
Some good options to consider this week to squeeze your way to a double chance in your league, or up the rankings if that's your aim.
Michael Barlow (Frem) - Mid - $529,100 - 106.22 - 3.09%
Barlow has now dropped by over $60,000 this season while averaging a very healthy 106.22. At times, he cops a bit of attention from the opposition however it is his running ability that helps him breaks the occasional tag and help out in all areas onfield. Having missed a month earlier in the season, he needs to keep playing to ensure he's fit and firing for finals. He has pushed forward more this season averaging a goal a game to go along with his token 25-30 disposals and 4 tackles. Barlow's lowest score this season is 82, dropping below 90 on just one other occasion. It is extremely difficult to get your midfield full of the top players, so consistency is what you need to focus on for your final midfield spots. Very reliable and cheaper than his fellow Fremantle premiums.

Bachar Houli (Rich) - Def - $453,700 - 86.08 - 1.67%
After a slow start to the season, Houli has finally found some solid, consistent form. Since the bye, he has averaged 91.67 with a lowest score of 80 and the highest being 108. He has...
Trades are in and I'm getting ready to pop the top on a nice bottle of sauv blanc.

Watch out though, word is that Tom Langdon is a good chance to be a late out this week.

<p style='margin-bottom: 0cm; background: #fcfcfc;] Recent game - Round 7 2013: At Etihad Stadium, Geelong had a comfortable 28 point victory scoring 113 to 85. Bartel was tagged by Kommer and scored 102 SC points. Selwood scored 100 SC points tagged by Hocking.

This week the Best Buys have been slightly delayed, but hopefully the extra wait will be worthwhile. With a real dearth of rookies over the last few rounds this week is no different, making trade selections all the more important. Now unfortunately while we can't give you a bunch of downgrade options, we can offer some POD alternatives that might just be able to save you enough cash to make those final upgrades for your team.

This weeks Best Buy is one of those options, in young Roo Levi Greenwood. After a slow start to the season Greenwood has really started to break out since the bye rounds, generating some interesting stats and apparently benefiting from NDS taking a fair bit of the attention off him. North's run home has also been well documented around these parts, which should give Levi plenty of chances to showcase his wares. Add to that he's only in around 1,000 teams so far, and you can see why he's Best Buy material.

DEFENSE
PREMIUMS

Heath Shaw (GWS) DEF 501.7k 95

Heater's been a regular in the Best Buys for a few years now, but generally speaking he's never on the list for too long. A chronic history of brain fades means while he often scores quite well he usually misses at least a few games each season. Back in form, after his last match anyway, Heater is looking decent value at 500 grand with a 95 average. Hopefully he can play the rest of the season, but his 24,000 coaches will most likely be holding their breath.

Lynden Dunn (MEL) DEF 558.4k 97

Dunn has kept his recent vein of rich form going, averaging 97 for the season but a much nicer 130 from his last 3 games. With a slightly down game over the weekend his price is only looking at around a 3 grand increase this week, so if he can keep his numbers over 100 he offers decent value. Priced just below 560 grand Dunn's high ceiling and POD value from only 3,000 selections are the key points here.

Shannon Hurn (WCE) DEF 500.7k 91
Hurn has also...
Wagga Wagga 1455 d Cradle Mountain 1048
The Marsupials have continued on their merry, high-scoring ways, disposing of Cradle Mountain to continue their march into the Top 4.

A half dozen Wombats cracked the ton, headed by twin forwardline terrors Jay Schulz (149) and Lance Franklin (121).Dion Prestia (137), Scott Thompson (129) and Dylan Schiel (115) were also among the points in a line-up which featured one of the more impressive 66 point games (from Josh Jenkins) in recent history.

Cradle Mountain were well served by Pendels (121) and Heppell (105) in the middle, but a lack of support for the duo was telling - with Johnson, Redden and Zaha down on previous output. The Devils will need to lift in coming weeks to hold onto their spot in the eight.

Darraweit Guim 1377 d Foul Bay 1186
The reigning premiers have suffered their first defeat of season 2014, going down to the Dirigibles by 190 points in a rematch of the 2013 Grand Final.

Injury wrought havoc for the Chickens across the weekend, with Rhyce Shaw (17) and Matthew Stokes (5) forced from the field early in their respective games. Meanwhile, Patrick Dangerfield (71) looked less than 100% fit as well.

These issues were felt keenly as Rance (104), Westhoff (155), Cornes (103) and Goddard (120) chalked up tons and helped the Guim establish a handy lead.

Late game heroics from the Chickens' Mumford (152) and Heath Shaw (116) were not quite enough to make up the ground, with the Dirigibles' evergreen Harvey (131) finishing the game in fine style.

Marble Bar 1150 d Charlie's Opening 1072
The Misfits have caused an upset, defeating the injury-hit Charlie's Opening by 78 points to notch their fourth win of the season.

Led again by Les W Medal hope Callan Ward (120), the Misfits welcomed the return of Brad Sewell (116) in style. Even hundreds from Ryder and Steven led the rest of the Misfits players.

For the Spelunkers, The Frenchman and the Dish (114 and 101 respectively)...
Let me tell you all a quick story about Dreamteam. More specifically, the eliminator.

Upon waking this morning, I needed to catch up 108 points, but had two players to do it with.

Mind you, I had Langdon's 15 as my midfield emergency and Kardashians 90 as my backline coverage.

Should be fine I told myself, even if just one of Murphy or Simpson get there average I'll be golden.

Fantasy sport is a cruel game.

How was your weekend?
Righteo! Round 14 is underway! Hopefully you've got your team fully upgraded and soccer soccer soccer.

Hows about that Cahill goal hey?

Wait, what? I got a little distracted there. Supercoach. Fully upgraded teams and early morning captain switching.

Bah. These early mornings are killing me! :D

How's your weekend shaping up for you?
<p class='Standard]In what was tough few weeks for AFL fantasy fans, round 14 promises to be an exciting weekend of games that will hopefully bring with it some rewards for those desperately needing some fantasy points.
<p class='Standard]
<p class='Standard]After a disappointing season so far, midfielder Steve Johnson's late withdrawal from last week's action means he now owes a lot of those fantasy coaches who have been loyal to him. Johnson has maintained a presence in a lot of fantasy teams despite his struggles this season, most recently earning an average of just 76 points a game in his last three appearances. The midfielder finished last season with an average of 96, but Johnson dominated the team in 2011 with huge scores of 171 and 146.

<p class='Standard]While the Eagles racked up six scores of 100+ points against the Suns, there is still far too much risk in selecting Johnson as your captain for round 14, no matter how tempting it may be. There's no doubt the 30-year old is a talented player, and there will be more than a number of Geelong fans hoping the versatile midfielder rediscovers his form this season.
<p class='Standard]
<p class='Standard]Johnson isn't the only player looking to repay fantasy managers after a dismal couple of weeks, with Collingwood youngster Dayne Beams also eager to return to the points after recording just 76points in his last appearance before joining a list of non-starters for round 13. A week out of the firing line could be a huge benefit to the 24-year old and Beams will be looking to at least match the 91 points he picked up against the Hawks last season.
<p class='Standard]
<p class='Standard]On the other end of the spectrum, Brendon Goddard is coming off the back of his best ever weekend of fantasy points. The midfielder scored a gargantuan 157 points against Melbourne in round 13, racking up the highest amount of fantasy points that round and earning the highest fantasy score in his career. With an...
