ORFFA ROUND 10 REVIEW ~ International Appreciation Round~ By sNoZ
Gundagai lost to Charlie's Opening, 1053 to 1136
In the battle of top 3 Vs bottom of the table, Charlie's Opening hung on to win in a low scoring affair by only 83 points. Both teams were hit by cavity inspections at Customs, with Charlie losing Gunston at JFK airport & the Hoppers plane took off without two forwards, last seen playing ultimate Frisbee on the beaches of Miami.
Led by Mackie's (117) welcome return to form, Charlie had no real standouts but an average score of 75 across the board was enough to compensate for Petrie Dish (58) who did nothing but grow bacteria. The Hoppers were surprisingly led by the mini three: Adams (114), Dwyer (100) & Taylor (101) but could not overcome their inept forward line.
Birdsville Battlers crushed Venus Bay, 1220 to 980
This middle of the table battle saw two teams going in different directions. The Battlers have now won 4 in a row, led by Ebert (147), SMurph (106), young gun Treloar (118) and even Clokey (110) for a solid all- around score of 1220. Now one game out of the eight, the Battlers are making a serious mid-season push to the Finals, but will need Laird (25) and White (37) to pull their socks up.
Venus Bay were hurt by tattoo boy's late out (Beams 0) & no covering emergencies. Continuing their Jekyll & Hyde performances, the Vultures have gone LWLWL over the last month and will need more from Parker (60), Mayes (45) & Blair (40). Gibbs (128) & Mundy (115) must have sore backs carrying their mates.
Lovely Lilacs in a thriller over Marble Bar, 1196 to 1149
In a match that came down to 47 points, the Lilacs win a close one against the Misfits & hang onto 8th spot on the ladder. With 3 wins in their last 5 games, the Lilacs will need to keep pressing as others are knocking on the door of the top 8. Led superbly by Duncan (136) & Thompson (102), the Lilacs went with no Ruck & concentrated...

Man, what a rough week. Late outs, low scores and Australia couldn't get that 2nd goal in the world cup.
At least Neymar is my captain though, right?
How did this weekend treat you guys?

How good have the Spurs been!
After a solid Game 1 W in sweltering heat and then getting smashed by a monster LeBron James performance in Game 2, the Spurs have come out and played some of the best basketball ever seen in the two games in Miami. The Heat are one of the best defensive teams in the league, but they have been made to look second rate, with the ease that the Spurs are creating open looks and just generally dominating the games. They have made shots at a remarkable rate, setting records for FG% along the way, and their D should not go unmentioned either. The Heat have also been shooting ok, but the Spurs have been limiting their opportunities and they been blowing them out.
Also gotta shout out to Patty Mills, who has contributed strongly throughout the Finals. Its so great to see him with a solid role in the rotation and contributing well. He's been awesome, drawing charges, getting steals, assists, no-look passes, draining treys, driving, and playing good D, even on LeBron at times.
Also, Baynes has done alright in junk time a couple of times. I think he even hit a 3 in Game 3.
Anyway, the game is about to start in 10 minutes, so I'll get this posted.

The rest of the top ten were Lobbe (150), Ablett (149), Harvey (145), Dunn (145) and Zaharakis (142).

Well, if I'm being honest, last week's edition of the Podfather was riddled with bad luck. Only one of the listed players scored above 100, with most having a poor game. Still, we push on. PODs are risky for a reason.
This week, we'll be seeing a couple of players return from the first edition. Players that have performed pretty well in the last few weeks and can still play a part in our seasons, no matter what you're aiming for. With news of a shock retirement out west, which will no doubt be pane-ful for the Eagles, we may start to see some key forwards featuring here in the next few weeks.
Stefan Martin (BL) - Ruc/Fwd - $242,700 - 112 - 1.57%
Playing his first game of the season, Martin was impressive against Will Minson, recording 32 hitouts, 17 possessions and 4 tackles. He loves playing as a ruckman and relishes the opportunity to play as the main man. In 2011, he averaged 85.9SC over the season's entirety however this increased to 94.93SC in matches he recorded 10 or more hitouts. I think it's unlikely the Lions will risk playing Archie Smith, leaving Martin as the only fit ruckman on the list. As a result, it's not unfair to expect an average pushing 90 until Leuenberger returns. His DPP status makes him a good trade-in option as cover for Sandilands if you have Thurlow as your R3/R4. Chuck him up forward or in the ruck. He'll do the job.
Rory Sloane (Adel) - Mid - $553,300 - 111.55 - 3.22%
Sloane is one of the most consistent SC performers this season. Having scored below 100 just once and with a top score of 136, he has locked himself into the premium category of midfielders. Yet he is still owned by only 3.22% of people. Halfway through the season, he has outscored teammate Patrick Dangerfield; a feat not many would've picked at the start of the season. He doesn't rack up huge numbers, but his enormous work ethic and gut running ability has him in the thick of the action more often than not. Would be up there in...

Get around the table, it's time for the biggest sporting event in the history of, well, in the world.
Anyways, looks like there's a couple of comps going this time, so if you've got a league, jump in the comments.
For the official comp however:TooSerious
Haven't had the time to sit down and plan out any optimal strategies, so I'm going to enjoy reading a few comments.
And hey, this made me laugh.

Hi, PL here, since Walesy kindly started this, I'll add some info as thanks
First off is the official game of the tournament, Macdonald's FIFA World Cup Fantasy
http://en.mcdonalds.fantasy.fifa.com/
League: TooSerious League (link)
So this game we have a salary cap of 100M to spend on a team and it will be stretched pretty thin by needing to fill 23 positions. There's a restriction of 3 players per nation, which is a little bit flexible and eventually as the tournament goes on you can pick more players per nation. The biggest thing to note for fantasy players that stands out is in this game you can sub players who don't perform, with those that haven't played yet - it's like the captain loophole only with starting playings, if only we had that in SC! So yeah, make the most of it and put your early players on the pitch first, in order to swing your others players in if they don't score well. Only thing is no rolling lock out, so the players you have are the ones you have to work with.
There's a few extra stats that score than in normal football games, like balls into penalty box, blocked shots for outfield players, and fouls as well as cards will impact negatively on scores. There are also bonus points available for...

Welcome once again to another edition of Best Buys.
After a brutal SC round for many, and a bloody long one at that, a lot of coaches will be looking to patch some holes this week and attempt to stay within touch of the leaders.
And speaking of leaders, that segways nicely into our Best Buy for the week, Robbie Gray.
Currently sharing top spot on the SC leaderboard, for forwards anyway, Gray also happens to play for the ladder leaders and is averaging 110 for a forward. Not bad at all, especially when you also consider he's only made it into around 30,000 teams so far this season.
DEFENSE
MID-PRICERS
Lynden Dunn (MEL) DEF 462.7k 93
Dunn has really excelled this season so far under Roosy, scoring a 145 on Monday to bring his season's average up to 93 and his price to just over 460 grand. A versatile player who has spent time both forward and down back this year Dunn is still building consistency but has shown the potential to go large. A mid-priced punt, Dunn has under 2,000 selections so far this year and will likely increase in value by around 33 grand this week.
Brodie Smith (ADE) DEF 479.4k 96
Smith is another up-and-coming young defender, averaging 96 for the season and priced at just under 480 grand. The Crows upcoming run looks fairly good really, but with Henderson due to return soon some may be wondering if a change of role is on the cards. Around 7,000 coaches have backed in Smith so far, making him a decent POD option.
Pearce Hanley (BRI) D/M 439.8k 89
Hanley was a popular pick early in the year before succumbing to injury, but appears to be bouncing back into form now nicely. A 119 on the weekend brought his season's average to 89, showing why around 30,000 coaches have kept the faith. Looking at around a 20 grand price rise this week, and the Lions playing some decent footy in the last 2 weeks, Hanley looks to be another good defensive pick once again.

I've had a couple of emails from people, noticing that TS has decided to stop sending out emails. Feel it's probably in everyones interest to let you all know what's going on.
A couple of weeks ago, we had some folk decide that they would be clever and script their way to creating a couple of thousand TS accounts (Despite the fact that from what I can tell, they haven't figured out how to use said scripts to script their way posting links)
But I digress, a thousand spammed accounts sends out a thousand bounced emails and a thousand bounced emails makes my host say- hey goobers, what are you doing man!? No email for you!
Which is were we are now, convincing the fine folk at Amazon that dudes, we totally aren't spammers and please give us our email back.
