As the 2014 season settles into it's stride the potential future stars of SC begin to emerge, and we start to get a much better picture of how teams and players will fare over the year. A lot of the early bolters have dropped off, and some of the stars from previous years have now gotten back into the swing of things, coupled with the bye rounds fast approaching to make for some crucial rounds of trading.

Luke Dahlhaus has impressed enough this season to be the week's Best Buy, and after missing one game earlier on with injury is still a relatively obscure pick. His contested play style, natural improvement and overall improvement from the Dogs all contribute to this nicely, and with a comparatively good bye round he will probably be a popular trade-in over the coming weeks. Playing more in the midfield, but still kicking the occasional goal, gives Dahl a more fantasy friendly role this season and one I expect will continue to deliver him solid scores.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES

Darcy Gardiner (BRI) DEF 117.3k 42 +24k

Gardiner hasn't been getting too much attention lately, sipping under the radar for many coaches but bringing himself onto the bubble nonetheless. Averaging 42 from his first two games and looking at a price rise of around 25 grand he looks a decent downgrade target in defense.

Tom Cutler (BRI) DEF 154.4k 51 +41k
Cutler Isn't on the bubble any more, after last week playing his third game and increasing in price by a bit, but at around 150 grand and averaging 51 he still offers some decent value. Some might not be too happy with fielding two Brisbane rookies in the same line, so for those not interested in Gardiner Cutler still has some cash generation left in him yet.

MID-PRICERS

Lynden Dunn (MEL) DEF 433.7k 93
Dunn has stepped up his game so far in 2014, culminating in a big 133 on the weekend. Still only averaging 90 however, and in a poor side to boot, Melbourne have a decent run into...
Six rounds done and one more to go before the bye rounds. In addition to listing the initial team selection, round by round trades and last round's team selection - which I'll continue to provide - I want to start looking at some of the strategy elements. I'll try to setup the analysis so I can easily repeat and refine them later on in the season.
Last week I had a quick on-the-fly look at team representations with a few surprising and not so surprising factlets. This week let's have a look at level of GnR strategy, but first the teams and trades:

Six weeks in to the season, seems like the perfect time to recap on what the Footy God's have brought us so far in Year 2014. My Cats were on top of the world until I saw the fast flowing Power run rampant over them on Sunday night at the world-class redeveloped Adelaide Oval. Boak starred. As did Cornes, Gray, Hartlett & Ebert. In fact they've been playing well all year, and all make my current top 50.

Throughout the season (in the interest of promoting discussion and taking you away from thoughts not involving football), I'm going to throw up my current:

<p style='margin: 6pt 0cm 0.0001pt;]A wonderful effort by an undermanned Charlie's Opening side saw it take out a close win over Birdsville and consolidate a spot in the top 4.
<p style='margin: 6pt 0cm 0.0001pt;]Led by 174 from a rampaging Leigh Montagna, the Spelunkers enjoyed a relatively even effort across the board, with only Kieren Jack (111) and Shaun Atley (103) joining Montagna in breaking the 100 point mark. A series of good scores across the board covered for the loss of Thomas Nicholls and the lack of a ruck replacement.
<p style='margin: 6pt 0cm 0.0001pt;]Conversely, it was Birdsville's ruckman Ben McEvoy that scored well for his team with 135, while Mark Murphy (148) continued his return to form. However the Battlers' forward line continues to battle, with form concerns over a number of its tarting four forwards.

<p style='margin: 6pt 0cm 0.0001pt;]Despite playing one player short, Gundagai held the lead late in the game, and with the Lilacs' Mitch Duncan struggling initially, a boil over looked on the cards. However Duncan picked up his game, scoring 86 and for the second week in a row provided key late-game points to help his team to the win.
<p style='margin: 6pt 0cm 0.0001pt;]Dane Swan (143) and Jed Adcock (122) put in Anzac Day specials to lead the improved Lilacs, who now sit in eighth place but still have concerns over the form of a couple of key players. For Gundagai, Lenny Hayes scored 112 and big Sandy 99....
Franklin's knee, Fasolo. What else hit you this week?

Were you on Aish? Or stung by him on the bench?

Me? I scored a 2176, which looks slightly under par, but just slightly.

How'd you go?

Stats will be up later this evening. :)
ANZAC day is exciting, isn't it.
Love the idea of having a day off work to catch a game of football (And yanno, the whole ANZACs and stuff).
Lest we forget.

They were led by Dangerfield who scored a career high 192 SC points from 33 disposals and 5 goals. Ablett continued his great season with 161 whilst Sidebottom scored the third highest score for the round with 155. Marc Murphy managed his highest score since 2012 with 153 whilst Tom Hawkins continued his great run against Hawthorn with five goals and 148 SC points. The rest of the top ten were Jamie Elliott with 145, Josh P. Kennedy with 144, Steve Johnson with 141 and Leigh Montagna and Nathan Jones (both with 140).

Once again the Best Buys is here for your SuperCoach trading needs, and after the success of the Faz last week we're going a little more left-field with some of the selections.

Pumping out a 130+, and almost making up for the earlier Mumford selection, Fasolo did us proud and hopefully bought in a boatload of cash for many of you.

This week, we're going with none other than Nathan Jones. The Demons co-captain has really stood up this season, benefiting from increased support from his teammates, new and old, and showing why he is such a fan favourite in Demonland. 3 scores so far over 130, albeit with a tendency to struggle from time to time when tagged, Jones is excellently priced and in great form early on as well as being a certain POD. Playing Sydney this weekend will likely see Jones in another run-with role, and luckily that's where he scores the majority of his points. Many coaches will overlook Jones simply for the colour of his guernsey, but if we've learnt anything in the last few years of SC it's that champions of the game seldom need to be in a winning side to score well.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES

Tom Cutler (BRI) DEF 117.3k 54 +40k

Cutler was a popular pre-season pick this year, before having a set-back or two and starting the season in the reserves. This brings him onto the bubble in time for round 6 and the possibility of some downgrade/upgrade action. Averaging 54 from his first 2 matches and looking at a 40 grand price rise, Cutler could well make his way back into a fair chunk of sides this week.

Jason Ashby (ESS) DEF 152.8k 47 +24k
Ashby has gone under the radar a fair bit, not getting much attention from anywhere really but still managing a 47 average over his first 3 games. He's had his first price rise now, but one only amounting to around 30k, so he remains in contention for a few sides looking for a defensive slow burner.
