Okay so this is essentially a bastardisation of P_L's thread. I couldn't work out how to promote it to a featured article. And the main page is where the ORFFL belongs. Damnit, that's where 3n4nsy belongs.

Putting all that aside, here are the dates for the upcoming trade, delistments, draft, trade periods:

    2016 Pre-Pre-SeasonDraft Trade Period - Now - Feb 26th 9pm AEDT
2016 Pre-Season Delistment Deadline (lists at no more than 20 player) - Feb 27th 9pm AEDT
2016 Pre-Season Draft - Feb 29th 0:00AM (or earlier the night of the 28th if you want)
    2016 Post-Pre-Season Draft Trade Period - End of draft - 23rd March 9pm AEDT

?

If an auto-pick should occur, who should that player be?

      Seee 2015 stats - 2 game 39avg
Stats page filter to search for Myers in 2015 - http://tooserious.net/forum/stats.p...&up_code=&tsLeagueTeamId=#LGFYI4HsvQCvqGZ9.97
All you get is 2014 stats for him. 17 games 85 average. Noticed it because of what's listed in the google sheet above.

Actually, seems to be all players? When filter by season you get the season before stats. Look at the players and scores - this isn't 2015 info: http://tooserious.net/forum/stats.p...lary=0&sort=ave&desc=desc#IK1lL53FKhjldfiG.97

Why would we be including suspended or retired players in that? Seems a bit extreme

@Bearfly if we do 5 picks/day from here on out we should make it before round 1 starts.

Apologies for being too busy working my arse off on an assignment that I need to have done and submitted before Easter - and considering I need to try and have Nicky in Melbourne for an appointment on the 22nd, it's an even more pressing deadline and completely doing my head in!!!

Well, it is legal to draft Jobe Watson, and he does have the highest 2015 average, so...

I agree that Jaensch should not be included though, he is not on an AFL list.

Sorry, was out with errrr commitments.

It's definitely Jobe FTR. Seems fitting also.

It's cause you have Round 0 selected (which is the preseason)

Might need to put in a tweak where changing the year backwards moves it to the latest round or something

Well I don't think suspended players should be available to be auto picked. The clue is in the suspended part.

Thanks, so that's what was going wrong. Same thing must've been done on the orffl sheet embedded with those players because Watson average should be listed as 92 and Myers 39.

It seems the votes are less than anonymous! I don't personally care either way... Giles might not see much more game time than Jobe anyway...

      Simple deduction my dear Watson.

If Ryder was available for selection, and other suspended players were to be kept as a part of a teams 26 ( i.e. no tops allowed), then I would have thought it obvious the auto pick be Watson.

      Good detective work.

Embedded spreadsheet has been edited. Ryder's average for 2015 was 85, rather than the previously advertised 2014 average of 101. All remaining banned players are now updated.

Except an autopick isn't a choice. You choose to select a Bomber player that is a FA, you choose to keep them in your team as part of the 26. Jaensch, Cavka and any of the 17 that are FA (edit - Collingwood duo too) shouldn't be included in an autopick since they're not available to play this season. Regardless of how much game time they get Giles, Smith, Waite are. I'd have thought the distinction obvious

It is a choice - you have chosen not to attend to the draft, for whatever reason, and thus you receive the player listed as a FA with the highest average from the previous year. By choosing not to do something, you are still choosing.

      (a)
The Pre-Season Draft will commence whenever someone says it will commence. Seriously it changes every year, but it's usually some time in March.
      (b) 24 hour time limit on picks. If you don't pick within time you will be given the highest ranked player on the previous year's averages.
      (c)
Teams must continue to draft until their lists are at 26 players.
      (d) Teams must stop drafting when their lists are at 26 players.
      (e) You cannot draft Martin or Hogan yet. No baggsies. (THIS RULE IS NO LONGER RELEVANT)
      (f) Mid Season Draft will happen in the last Bye Week (R13). Draft will run in reverse ladder order as of the end of R10.
      (g) Mid Season Draft is not compulsory to participate in.
      (h) There is no salary cap. SC dollars do not exist in this universe.

The above is copied from the rules thread. Pretty clear to me that you will be given the highest ranked player from the previous year, which in this case is Jobe Watson. His suspension for 2016 is irrelevant.

You're conflating the issue. Why they're getting an autopick has nothing to do with what the autopick should be.That they should receive the highest average FA from last season is not the issue, them not receiving a player that's suspended or retired is

Well we've already gone over before that the "rules" shouldn't be followed blindly so that renders that moot and it's straightforward that certain circumstances can't be addressed when they come up.

Back in the halcyon days of 2012 there was no making these rules with the potential for players being banned (Bombers/Magpies) or high-average players spontaneously retiring during pre-season (Jaensch) in mind so trying to hide behind that is disingenuous.

The circumstances has come up now, it should be addressed because forcing a player on someone that can't play at all is wrong. Doesn't matter if it is Jobe or not, they are suspended. That means they can't play. That means you're forcing on a team a player that can't play for no good reason.

Personally, I'm happy with the Bombers boys being available- heck, might even snag Jobe next pick.

Jaensh though, and other retirees I reckon should be exempt.

Isn't the onus on everyone to participate in the PSD in a timely manner? Of course it is. Holding up the process shouldn't in my view be cushioned by any special consideration. The existing rule is simple and clear and yes sometimes it is going to dish up a player who has more cons than pros.

Why should we modify the rules just because the highest averaging free agent happens to be suspended? Would we be discussing potential alterations to the rules if the highest averaging free agent did his ACL in the off-season? I think the answer to the second question is no, which is why I also think this approach should be applied to suspended players.
