Rivalry Round V3.0 has arrived (inspired by this weekend’s Q-clash). There is sure to be increased levels of pre, during and post match much sledging this week as rivalry bragging rights go up for grabs for another season.

2016 saw some massive team scores, while 2017 saw more defensive contests and there have been team records aplenty in the 16 rivalry matches so far.

    V1 – http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/orfff-2016-rivalry-round-round-8.89461/ and http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=14&round=8&year=2016

    V2 – http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/2017-orfff-rivalry-round-afl-10.89892/ and http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=14&round=10&year=2017

This week’s fixtures are (teams in the top 8 in bold)

Macquarie Island Whales (1-3) vs Black Swamp 29ers (4-0) - Formerly known as the “6 stubby Derby” - MIW have won both. The 2016 clash was the closest ever rivalry round match (22 points at Black Swamp) while the 2017 edition saw the 29ers losers by a club record 212 points in the Southern Ocean.

Jan Juc Ducks (2-2) vs Rutherglen Fugitives (3-1) - Jan Juc hold Victorian derby bragging rights by winning both previous matches and have also been the slightly stronger side since the ORFFFs inception. Rutherglen managed to finish 2nd in the 2017 ORFF* Knockout comp while Jan Juc finished 3rd however the ORFFF is where both teams focus lies and the Fugitives will be giving it their all to take a stronger hold on a top 4 spot and open up a 2 game gap on their rivals.

Mt Thirsty Boozers (3-1) vs Useless Loop Virgins (2-2) - their first ever matchup was the 8th highest ever ORFFF aggregate score and saw the Virgins post their highest ever score, while the Boozers hold bragging rights taking vengeance in 2017. The frenzied/sloshed home crowd will be willing their premiership heroes to buck the trend of Away teams having won both previous rivalry round clashes.

Port Lincoln Power (2-2) vs Maralinga Atoms (3-1) – The SA Power Cup- The Atoms won a close contest in 2016 while they annihilated the Power in 2017 (both clubs 2nd highest ever win/loss and Port Lincolns lowest ever score). The Power will have to overcome the ORFF”s best defence so far in 2018.

Nangkita Bucks (2-2) vs Cockburn Avengers (3-1)The Hopper-Keays Cup - The Avengers won the first match of the Eastern SA rivalry when Nangkita was still a Northern Queensland team by 222 points and the Bucks closed the gap to 221 points in 2017. Rather than wait until the year 2239 Nangkita will want to improve faster and notch a rivalry round win sometime in the next 220 years, and more importantly deny the Avengers a 4-1 start to the season !

Wedge Island White Pointers (0-4) vs Neptune Island Noahs (3-1) – The Originals vs the Copycats – The 2016 edition was the 10th lowest ever ORFFF aggregate score as the White Pointers registered their lowest ever score, however the Originals turned the tables in 2017 dealing the Noahs a club record loss. The Copycats will be keen to be the 3rd visiting team to win this rivalry matchup and their fans are rumoured to have made a bulk order of wooden spoons to be waved at their opposition late in the match if they can be in a winning position.

Walpole Woylies (2-2) vs Heard Island Shags (1-3) – The Shags defeated the Woylies by 124 points in 2016, while the Woylies squared the ledger with a narrow 39 point win in 2017.Home teams have won both clashes and recent form also puts Walpole as favourites.

Drouin Dropbears (1-3) vs Mole Creek Glow-Worms (0-4) – The “Darcy Byrne-Jones Vase” - on the ladder it says 13th plays 16th but both teams will be keen to rise to the occasion. Drouin trounced the Glow-Worms in 2016 (both clubs record win/loss and the 5th highest of all time) and hold a 2 zip H2H advantage after grinding out a much tighter 154 point win in 2017. Mole Creek have now lost 8 games straight and will need to crack 1050 points for the first time against the Dropbears and then some if they are to take out their first ever rivalry round “W” and open their 2018 account.

Meanwhile in the ORFF* knockout Quarter Finals the Whales travel to face the ORFFA’s big improvers from Darraweit Guim while in an all ORFFF contest the Avengers host the Virgins. A win this weekend would leave each of the 3 clubs a fortnight away from landing their first ever competition trophy as well as securing a spot in the 2018 ORFF* Champions League.

Once again team entry can be done at http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=14 (just click the green button under Submit Team).

Be aware of the risk of players not being named or not fronting up for Anzac Eve and Anzac Day clashes and plan teams and emergencies accordingly before the Friday Night round lockout

Once lockout is underway Matchday teams can be found at
    http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagueMatchday.php?leagueId=14&round=5

Good luck all, and even if it is the only time this year please post before, during or after the very loooooong round to badmouth the opposition or drum up the rivalry regardless of whether it is the friendly type or completely the opposite !

    Guys, the lockout policy for this round will be per the FA one, specifically;
Ok, so we will have two lockouts this week.
First lockout will be Friday nights game as normal.
After the last game on Sunday I will change the lockout
Second lockout will be the start of the Tuesday night game.

I appreciate it's different to what we have done before, but we have not faced the naming of four teams on a Monday before, and this feels the fairest approach for all concerned.

For the sake of my sanity keep all loop-holing legitimate and only name players in the second stanza who are named to play or are emergencies if you don't have enough named.

Please ensure you use your emergency spots as intended and not to deliberately loophole a player you should have named onfield.
Failing to name an available player in a onfield slot when there is one in your team from the last 2 games is not fair play.

Up to @That KI Guy how he wants to handle it if people are believed to be abusing the opportunity.

@Len The above seems to be common sense. I can see the advantage in keeping a single lockout for simplicity but appreciate teams are more likely to field donuts as a result. If a dual lockout assists to reduce potential donuts then I don't see a big issue as all teams get the same opportunity.

My main concern is that ORFFF have always allowed loopholing for dual lockouts in the past which is different to other comps despite a number of coaches avoiding doing so and it generally making no difference when coaches have done so successfully.

While I agree a reverse situation where 2 games are played at the end rather than 1 or 2 at the start means it could be a bit ridiculous I personally think it should be open slather for all coaches as long as they don't name a team with 13 or 14 onfield at the second lockout.

Personally I think it's cheating regardless of precedent, but I simply copied and pasted the post from the FA, where it IS deemed cheating and noted it's @That KI Guy call not mine what happens here.

Black Swamp (Round 5) - subject to late change if needed

    In – McVeigh, Joyce
    Out - Cutler Hardwick

McVeigh Geary Jonas SDT - Hardwick
Bont Henderson Duckwood S Hill - Grigg
Westhoff ANB JDG S Edwards - Hayward is a late change for Hooker
    Sinclair - no emg
    Beams Joyce - Fogarty

McVeigh replaces Cutler and Joyce plays his first game for the 29ers after being picked up at pick 96 in the 2018 PSD. The duo replace Cutler and Hardiwck who both underwhelmed in Round 4.

Hardwick is named as an emergency alongside Grigg, Hayward and Lachie Fogarty, while Cutler joins Gallucci and Hunter Clark in the 29ers seconds despite all 4 players making their AFL teams this weekend.

Billy Stretch is rumoured to be a possible in for the Dees this week and will also play ressies along with Barlow and Roughead who have been named as emergencies in the AFL and Mayes and Newman who failed to make their AFL teams 26 this week.

Edit - Cale Hooker was initially named as a 29ers emergency and will replace ANB, JDG or S Edwards in Black Swamp's starting 15 if any of the trio are not named on Monday night. On consideration the 29ers match committee felt this reduces the risk of a donut in the forward or mid lines.

Viney appears to be 2-3 weeks away from a season debut while Reid is out of action until after the byes.

The actual “Originals” line up for Rivalry round.

Def - Finlayson, Haynes, Morrison, Howe
Mid - Sidey, Ross, Gaff, Tyson? (Tucker)
    Ruck - Gawn
Fwd - Taylor, Smith, Fisher, Menzel (Florent)

Further decimation sees the mid barrel now scraped clean.
Giving @Bearfly Copycats a decent leg up in this one.

I support this too. I think it should be up to individual coaches how they name their team, except that emergencies shouldn’t be able to cover a vacant/blank onfield spot because that doesn’t make sense.

At the half time break at MacQuarie Island the home side 7/535 trail the visiting 29ers 8/691.

The Whales have 3 players running out on Sunday while Black Swamp have 4 before the match pauses for an extended 3 quarter time break.

Drouin take an early lead 9/778 leading Mole Creek 8/604.

Some low scores incoming with pretty much all the big names having played.

Today sees Drouin roll out Atley and Lester whilst Mole Creek will use up their numbers advantage sending out McCluggage, Fiorini (in the ruck :poop:) and Touk Miller.
