I happened upon a wonderful word yesterday - zugzwang; a German noun that apparently translates to "compulsion to move." It typically is used to describe a situation in chess where one player is at a disadvantage because it is their move, but they would prefer to pass than make a move. Felt it almost perfectly covered the problem @ChiefRussell , @Fitzy and I (and no doubt others) have had with the emergency players we have named and the points languishing on the pine.
No zugzwang issues for the Lefties. Might scrape together 13.5 kids this week. Welcome Nick Shipley! Def - Brayshaw, Duryea, Wagner?, Atley?? Mid - Ross, Weller, Phillips, Berry Ruck - W Langford Fwd - Knight, Simpkin, K Langford?, Hayward IC - Dumont, Shipley

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 6 2018 team vs Gariwerd Cockatoos In: Z Jones, N Vlastuin Out: J Hopper (omitted), A Naughton (omitted) Def: M Hurley, P Seedsman, N Vlastuin, J Lever (A Naughton) Mid: S Pendlebury, D Heppell, D Zaharakis, D Zorko (S Grigg) Ruck: T Nankervis Fwd: T Lynch, T English, J Gresham, T Membrey (A McDonald-Tipungwuti) Int: J Steele, Z Jones (J Hopper) Cradle Mountain have made two changes for their Round 6 game against the Gariwerd Cockatoos with Zak Jones being recalled and Nick Vlastuin returning after being a late withdrawal in Round 5. After being a late inclusion for Vlastuin, Aaron Naughton has been omitted after making his ORFFA debut last round and midfielder Jacob Hopper has been demoted from the interchange to being an emergency. Devils need a lift from their forward line which only scored 251 in Round 4 followed by 249 in Round 5, on the upside at least the forwards are consistent. The corresponding game in Round 1 last year started a Devils club record five game winning streak and handed the Cockatoos the mediocrity cup. From Round 6 2017 onwards the CMD home and away record is sevens wins and 10 losses, along with 1 finals loss. @anthak if the Cockatoos defeat the Devils this weekend and you have still got the mediocrity cup lying around you should probably hand it over to me.
The probable Cows team to travel to play on Jen's Lilac coloured Lovely Banks, hoping for no zugzwang: D - Michael Hibberd, J McGovern, J McVeigh, H Morrison* (B White) M - T Mitchell, N Fyfe, D Prestia, D Howe (J Allison) R - S Jacobs F - T McLean, B Parfitt, M Robinson, T Papley (J Dunkley) I/C - S Menegola, B Williams (R Burton) * RS eligible
Aaron Mullett's 28 on the field. Matthew Wright's 92...in the twos. This week is starting just like every other week.
VULTURES DEF: Yeo, Howe, Finlayson, Crisp (Houston) MID: Gaff, Parker, Beams, Higgins (Bastinac) RUCK: Martin FWD: Hogan, Watts, Deledio, Menzel INT: Fiorini, O'Meara (Carlisle) You may spot an interesting selection from the Vultures, but let me assure you, it resulted in an almighty face palm from the coach himself. Leaving the concussed Shaun Higgins on the mid line, only to select Ryan Bastinac, who's been omitted, as the emergency... you'd think I'm tanking but I promise I'm not... IN: Deledio, Fiorini, O'Meara, Menzel OUT: Franklin, Greene, Kreuzer, Houston
Oh my god, sack me now, inclusion Menzel is out injured too, this is getting embarrassing. I shall be finding time on Friday afternoons to check final teams from here on out... d'oh
