Following nominations we have 54 teams entered into TS ORFF* Knockout Competitions this year. The 2018 format will be quite different this year so hopefully this can explain it fairly simply.

13 teams have qualified for the 2018 ORFF* Champions League between Rounds 7 and 11 (no play in Round 10). 2 further teams have secured a half qualifying spot for the Champions League and will clash in a winner takes all Round 6 Champions League Playoff contest and then enter the Champions League in the Round of 16 in Round 7.

39 other teams will be competing in the 2018 ORFF* Knockout between Rounds 2 and 7, 25 of these teams will have a bye in Round 2 and enter the completion in Round 3 while 14 teams will battle it out in Round 2.

As well as securing the 2018 Knockout title the winning Knockout Grand Finalist will secure an additional Champions League spot and will enter that competition in the Quarter Finals the next week – ie Round 8.

2018 Champions League allocations occurred as follows
    - 12 spots based on 2017 League placings - 3 spots to each competition including Premiers and next 2 highest ranked other sides based on 2017 Home and Away ladder position (excluding teams who did not nominate) - ie Sarah Island, Mallacoota, Tarwin Lower, Waikiks, Venus Bay, Marble Bar, Serengeti, Southern Cross, Nuytsland, Mt Thirsty, Drouin, Jan Juc
    - 1 spot to the 2017 ORFF* Knockout winners – with Nuytsland winning the 13th direct spot nominally goes to the Vikings and as they had already qualified then Groote Eyland were added as the next highest nominated ORFFU side after home and away
    - 1 spot to the 2018 ORFF* Knockout winners (entering at the Quarter Final stage)
    - 2 half spots to the 2017 ORFF* Knockout Runners up and 3rd place teams – Rutherglen and Jan Juc. As Jan Juc had already qualified then Neptune Island were added as the next highest nominated ORFFF side after home and away. As above Rutherglen will host Neptune Island in Round 6 with the winner playing in the Champions League Round of 16 in Round 7.

First Round ORFF Knockout byes were allocated to teams finishing top 12 on 2017 Home and Away ladder positions for the ORFFL, ORFFA, ORFFU and ORFFF (excluding the teams who qualified for the Champions League). Ivanhoe and Pakenham were the lucky 13th placed teams in also gaining a bye while Wineglass Bay and Black Swamp will playoff with the teams lower ranked 14-18 in the first weekend of competition in Round 2.

With no further ado please note that the following Knockout draw is for Rounds 2-5 only. Following Round 5 the Knockout Semi Finals and Champions League draw will be advised.

AFL Round 9 results are up on the knockout/champions league page http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=20&round=9

but also pasted here for easy reference

      ORFF* Champions League
Match 13 - Venus Bay Vultures ORFFA 1364 def by Southern Cross Sandgropers ORFFU 1379 (15 points)
In an epic tussle the Sandgropers appeared to be down and out as they trailed by 62 points heading into the last match. Most of the audience would have given them zero chance of knocking off the home side as Vultures Gaff and Yeo scored 113 and 114 respectively setting the Sandgropers 290 to win.

But cometh the hour cometh the twin towers as McGovern and Darling put on a performance that will live in ORFF* folklore combining for 304 with the latter posting the second highest SC score of the season with 181 (behind Macrae’s 189 in Round 5) to help the Sandgropers and @eagle_eyed snatch a famous win by a mere 15 points.

@fitzy’s side is undefeated (9-0) in the ORFFA and has shown their quality on the big stage, no doubt they will be back to give the 2019 Champions League title a real shake.

Match 14 - Coolgardie Prospectors ORFFU 1162 def by Jan Juc Ducks ORFFF 1359 (197 points)
Despite their League struggles the Ducks @thokash were far too strong in another stunning cup display, with 5 players tonning up as they coasted to a win against a Prospectors side that showed signs of fatigue following an epic 7 match undefeated streak through the ORFF* Knockout and Champions League competitions prior to the semi final.

@jpk’s side has already take the Knockout title and will take on the Vultures in Round 11 with the winners clinching a guaranteed the 2019 ORFFF* Champions League alongside the 2018 Champions League finalists.

The FU managed 1 win from 2 contests to be 17 from 27 in intercomp play this year (def FF 3-2, def FL 7-3, def FA 7-5)
The FA lost it’s only match to be 12 from 24 this year (def FL 3-2, lt FU 7-5, def FF 4-3)
The FF won 1 from 1 to be 9 from 19 this year (def FL 4-3,lt FA 4-3, lt FU 3-2)
The FL finished 8 from 22 this year (lt FF 4-3, lt FU 7-3, lt FA 3-2)

For the 2nd year running it is an ORFFU side up against an ORFFF side in the feature match of the final weekend of intercomp play for the season. As an ORFFF coach my support will be firmly behind the Jan Juc boys and I know many of the FU will be putting their rivalries aside to do the same for the Southern Cross team.

@eagle_eyed and @thokash best of luck getting your sides ready for the big match in 2 weeks time.

The Grand Final is set to showcase players with great SC pedigree and pending form and fitness Mitch Wallis appears to be the only player with split allegiances.

As predicted, my boys were just not good enough on the day. We had a good run, with some great luck, but we couldn't average 1300ppg to compete with the other teams.
Congrats to @thokash for the win.
Congrats also to the boys down the road from me, @eagle_eyed and his Southern Cross Sandgropers.
Commiserations (and I know the feeling) to @Fitzy

Thanks heaps to @TheTassieHawk for all the organisation to put this together.

...as for the upcoming game, and as much as it hurts me to say this... "Go 'Gropers"

      J McGovern, Darling vs nil

      Cunnington vs M Robbo

Not too late to have a do-over for Hanners selection? Thought he would get amongst it against Carlton in his 200th, boy was I wrong.

Hewett the expected tag on Cripps, 12 CP and 9 clearances deserved more than 79!

Very much on the back foot already after starting behind with a bunch of injuries in the backline.

Lever gets added to the backline woes and would mean some kind of epic comeback is in order. TMac Jones and Lewis doing their part so far though!

Zaka out for the night early as well, sorry Ducks (and ORFFF) fans looks like we are going to have to wait until next year!

Scores up until Ess v Ric - Sandgropers 667/6 leading Ducks 749/9

      So you're telling me there's a chance?

Just need Robbo to pump out another 170 and we are back in it!

Sandgropers 1014/12 leading Ducks 764/10 - still a long way back with an OOP to come, but there's hope

I don't really know what you guys are all going on about...
In the real match that matters, the loser's final, its all coming up Vultures @Fitzy

      Venus Bay - 796 / 9 / 88.4
      Coolgardie - 864 / 13 / 66.4

      To come we have
Stefan Martin taking on Stefan Martin in the rucks. Its tipped to be a tight contest there!
      Venus Bay - J Crisp, D Talia, S Higgins, D Beams, and A Otten
      Coolgardie - J Macmillan

Is it possible for the Vultures to lose from here? Only if the curse that took out D Hannebery, D Zaharakis, J Lever, and J Darling rears its ugly head in the last 1/3rd of this match. Otherwise its all over bar the shouting after a terrible display from the Prospectors.

After the North v Brisbane match the Ducks will need Crisp, Grundy, Douglas & 1/2 Jenkins to outscore Fyfe & Milera by 261 points to take the game. It’s not over yet with both Crisp & Grundy on fire for the Ducks. A clearer picture will be available once Collingwood finish beating up on Freo.

      Go ‘Gropers!

Going to need a huge second half from Dougy but you never know what might happen

At full time in the final match I have unscaled scores giving the 2018 Champions League title to the Gropers @eagle_eyed by 36 points (1249-1213) over the gallant Ducks @thokash, whose faint hopes were extinguished with Richie Douglas apparently being off the field for the final 15 minutes of the contest.
