Round 17 Date Friday 02.08.2019 – AFL Round 20 THEME: Fellowship Round Fellowship Round is a chance for all of us to gather together in the wide white virtual void that is the world wide web (not to be confused with Antarctica, as our white void is far warmer and has far fewer penguins), raise a glass of something to our fellow ORFFA coaches and celebrate the fact that our love for fantasy football brings our lovely band of misfits together each week. All past and present ORFFA coaches are invited to party in the virtual void, with or without penguins. In the blog for ORFFA Round 16 @graeme wrote “It's pretty much a fait accompli that the injury ravaged cows finish eighth and the devils request back to back games”. It appears that the Cows have done their recovery sessions in some magic water that has healed their wounds because in a phenomenal performance the unofficial score that I have is that the Cows have averaged more than 100 points for each player that took the field. The Devils scored 1,303 from a full 15 man side whilst a 14 man Cows outfit has wound back the clock to 2017 to score 1,441 and defeat Cradle Mountain by 138 points – the biggest loss the Devils have had since Round 11, 2018. Well done on the win @graeme, hopefully your herd of Cows are in good health for the finals. Eight Cows scored tons led by Nicholas Newman (161) who injured his ankle late in the third quarter but was able to return to the field after passing a fitness test on the boundary line, Mitch Robinson (132), and Dion Prestia (131) with the trio being the three highest scoring players on the ground. Five Devils scored tons led by Jack Steele (121), Tom Lynch (Ade) (113) and Rowan Marshall (109). Working on the fairly safe assumption that the Foul Bay Chickens defeated Mount Beauty who were playing with at most 13.5 players @ChiefRussell's Chickens will win the ORFFA minor premiership for the fourth time, having previously achieved this feat in 2012, 2015 and 2016, congrats CR, I hope you have better luck with your opponent selection and the Chicken's performance during the finals. The Devils will finish second or third to record their first top four finish, surpassing their previous best finish of fifth place in 2017. The sides that will finish fifth to seventh are Venus Bay, Iron Knob and the Cows who are the only three teams to have defeated Cradle Mountain in 2019.
Thanks @dmandrews ; A good tussle and you were unlucky to catch us on a good day. Best of luck in the finals. (Like you I am assuming) CR is the deserving winner if the H&A series. As always the first round of finals will be interesting for whom the top sides choose to play. If the cows can continue to field a full side (we just might) we may well not be the Easy Beats ("Friday on my mind") of the bottom half of the eight. I think I know who CR will pick to overcome his "round 17 jinx" but let's see how things pan out.
I have no bloody idea who I’m picking, so if you could tell me that would be great. I wasn’t expecting to get the first pick and about a month ago it looked like I was finishing fourth and getting whoever no one else wanted. I need to go into the think tank, over think the entire thing and get it wrong like I usually do.
Spelunkers post a score that would have beaten 8 other teams... but still get the job done with a loss
First time in all the years that I have been playing this ORFFA game, the purple haze has made finals.
I think most of us missed that it was fellowship round. Here's mud in ur eye from @jimbo http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/orffa-2019-final-round-review.90516/#u0ceb8gSzuH8JEq1.97
Nah, that's just how it goes. It reinforces the importance of positional depth, though! Having even a bog average back up available may have helped rather than having to roll with someone OOP. But then they may have scored 20 anyway. Lol. A big congrats, @Jen , on your first finals appearance! Nice to see your patience rewarded. And as we've seen plenty of times in the FA, anything can happen in the finals. So good luck!
