    Hi Folks

When we started up our TS AFLW competitions we were able to adopt Champion Data positions from their annual AFLW prospectus.

Since the prospectus has been discontinued commencing from 2021 we have needed to assign positions based on statistics and observation for returning AFLW players and a mix of data sources for the new draftees and have tried to introduce a sensible level of dual position allocation.

For 2022 the initial position allocations have been made by @FreoDockers and we are inviting review and discussion of any allocations which may need to be amended prior to finalisation of the 2022 AFLW competition positions.

Please post below by 9pm Wednesday 1st December if you have any feedback or suggested alterations for individual players.

    Cheers TTH

    Excellent work @FreoDockers

Are the positions supposed to be based on 2021 positions played, or expected 2022 positions?

    @anthak

    2022 = column E

2021 is just a comparison that shows players such as Rebecca Webster, Emma Swanson and Kaityln Ashmore have changed positions from 2021 to 2022.

Yes I understand that, but I’m wondering if the 2022 positions are based on what positions they played in 2021, or what they’re expected to play in 2022?

2021, in most cases we aren't trying to predict the future

    Ok, no probs.
In that case Sabrina Frederick should probably be a F/R given she split her time between positions at Richmond, even though she’s expected to mainly play forward for the Pies.

You’ve done a great job with the current allocations though. This one was the only issue I saw at first glance.

Poppy Schaap is incorrectly listed with GWS (should be CAR)
Alice Edmonds (WB) is not on the list.

No issues with positions, Freo has done a great job.

cheers, poppy was a typo and Alice an omission but is activated in the database (player ID 5992) and will appear when all the 2022 rookies do in the next DB update by @walesy

    A few suggestions for draftees:

Abbie Ballard = FWD/MID (MID in doc)
Charlie Rowbottom = MID/FWD (MID in doc)
Georgia Campbell = FWD/RUCK (FWD in doc)
Ella Friend = FWD/MID (MID in doc and realistically if just single position should be FWD)
Elizabeth Snell = MID/FWD (will play forward at AFLW level and did every year before this one at the Pios)

Stella Reid (currently Fwd-Mid) could be all three (legit spent the same amount of time in each third, played a third at the start of the year)
Tara Slender (currently Fwd) could also be all three, but I'd definitely put her DEF first, FWD second if just two. She only played FWD more this year due to the strength of Country defenders.

Hey mate - a few suggested reviews

Georgia Clarke Geel Fwd only (currently Def-Fwd)

Jess Dal Pos Carl Def (currently mid) - not named as a Mid in Rounds 1-7, either Def or Fwd and stats well down on orevious years

Katie Brennan Rich Fwd only (currently Fwd-Mid) - named at CHF Rounds 3-7
    Hannah Button Adel Mid only (curently Fwd-Mid) - named Mid * 4, IC *1 and Fwd * 1 in 1st 6 rounds
Abby McKay Carl Mid only (currently Fwd-Mid) - named Mid * 4, IC * 2 and Fwd * 1 in first 7 rounds
Tyla Hanks Melb Mid only (currently Fwd-Mid) - named Mid Rounds 1-7
Aisling McCarthy WCE Mid only (currently Fwd-Mid) - is in WCE starting mids group

Jasmine Garner Mid only (currently Fwd-Mid) - named Mid Rounds 1-7, kicks a lot of goals for a mid but also has a LOT of possesions, goals per possession reflect lesser mid ratios

Gabby Seymour Rich Ruck only (currently Def-Ruck) - played as 1st ruck, more forward than defence when resting

Eden Zanker Melb Fwd/Mid (currently Fwd-Ruck) - named Fwd * 6 and Mid * 1 in first 7 rounds, only 2.2 hitouts per game
Jesse Wardlaw Bris Fwd only (currently Fwd-Ruck) - named Fwd Rounds 1-7, only 2.1 hitouts per game

Erin Phillips Adel Fwd/Mid (currently mid only) - named Fwd * 5, Mid * 2 in first 7 Rounds
Amelia Velardo Fwd (currently Ruck) - named Fwd Rounds 1 and 2, no hitouts in either game

Andrew Gilmore WCE Fwd-Ruck (currently Fwd) - average 6.3 hitouts per game (3 games)
Taylor Smith Bris Fwd-Ruck (currently Fwd) - average 5.2 hitouts per game (11 games)

in past years we used a 5 hitouts oer game cutoff for ruck eligibility
Sabrina Frederick averaged 4.9 hitouts per game in 2021 so fractionally below

OK thanks all, I have coded the above changes in the player DB and these will go live whenever Walesy next updates the site

Please note that @FreoDockers will be responsible for assigning positions for any new inactive replacement players that are signed by AFLW clubs throughout the pre-season and season proper and they will be eligible for selection in the next draft to commence in each Too Serious competition post their official signing.

Any update as to when the suggested position updates are going to be included on the spreadsheet?
Or does anyone have a list of the changes made since the original sheet was uploaded?

All the positions have now been updated on the TS database, so that’s the best to use at this point I would think

You can also “download to CSV” on the stats page. I’m not sure if it’s only available to donors or not, and I’m not sure if you’re a donor as well  but it’s a very handy feature.

These are just free agents, but you can adjust if you want more
