Hello and welcome to Round 5, which will probably contain between 4 and 7 games of AFLW, depending on the will of the COVID, the AFL fixturing department, the WA border police, and the oracles. As per usual competition admins will post below with more precise details as to how we are handling the weekly AFLW fixturing issues and/or postponements. Our RIVALRY ROUND fixture has: Timboon Trailblazers, 2nd (3 wins, 1 loss) vs Eastern Park Demons, 9th (1-3) The Demons will no doubt try their hardest but this one looks like a foregone conclusion when up against the mighty Timboon. Bowers and Phillips on the same team? It's not fair I tell ya Vivonne Bay Valkeries, 4th (3-1) vs Katanning Krushers 1st (4-0) A top of the table thriller between two teams with actually quite a close offensive effort over the season (2680 for the home team vs 2780 for the Krushers). Viv will be looking to give the Krushers their first loss of the season, although even with a win they will likely still be chasing Timboon and Manildra’s impressive For scores, resulting in a top 4 shakeup. On the other hand a Krushers win will cement them at the top of the ladder as the only undefeated team. Bathurst Belles 7th vs Manildra Mystix 3rd Upsets are always possible, but TTH's team have shown great depth and ability to score from every line in this tumultuous year. Glenbrook Galahs 11th vs Legana Legends 12th: Spoonbowl Hopefully the Galahs' season will pick up with the coach back from holidays. Or maybe the 'tank until the MSD' strategy will still have time to bear fruit. (*This was not my strategy). Meanwhile the Legends may be unveiling their top MSD draft pick in Tara Bohanna and we hope she does well. Lake St Clair Devils, 5th vs Pomona Wood Nymphs, 6th All to play for here as a strong win by one of these teams and a loss by the Valkeries could see them move up to take Viv's place in the top 4. Bangalow Bats, 8th vs Scone Sirens, 10th Another potentially very tight game between two teams with an equal win-loss record, with one team likely to end up part of a bottom 3 with no mathematical route to the finals.
Based on discussion behind the scenes we have decided that the following will apply for ORFFW Round 5 (aka Rivalry Round) Scores for players from both both sides will count for the 6 scheduled Round 5 AFLW matches up to and including NM vs Freo Scores for St Kilda vs WCE (listed as an “additional” match) will be counted for St Kilda players only. GWS players will be on a bye, and receive zero for the round and topups will apply for GWS players only - except those with LTI's ruling them out for 2022 - first in, best dressed, from Friday at 12pm St Kilda players cannot be selected as topups (we want to keep the calcs as easy as possible for @walesy) - subject to confirmation !! Round lockout will be Sunday (time to be confirmed)
For ORFFW Round 5 the deadline for our league for postponed matches is again 12pm Friday (Melb time) to allow for topups to be selected, from that point (ie from 12:01pm) on a first in best-dressed basis. If a match is postponed after 12pm Friday (i.e. snap postponement on a Sunday) then awarded (average) scores will come into play. Topups are 1:1 for affected players at the time the request is placed, scoring at normal rates (no discounting). Players with Long Term Injuries (think Ellie McKenzie or Grace Egan, etc if they were Free Agents) can be included in the topups, however those with declared season ending injuries or unavailability (Davey, Huntington, Lutkins, Cordner, Collingwood, Brazill, Pregelj) cannot be included. Awarded scores will be scaled at 75% of the yearly average to date. You can only make 1 topup request per team per round - this becomes very important to get the timing right as if you pick your topups too early, ie from 1201pm onwards on the Friday and they aren't named in the Saturday or Sunday teams.... bad luck!! As the St Kilda vs WCE game is being included as a "0.5" game we have decided that St Kilda players may not be eligible to be selected as topups this week (please note this is unconfirmed and may be changed l) The ORFFW round will be considered cancelled only if there are 4 or more postponements in a single round at the midday Friday deadline, as awarded scores will come into play if postponements are declared during the round.

Ok we Galahs would like to be ahead of the curve for once and request to replace GWS players: Cora Staunton, Chloe Dalton, Ally Dallaway, Tait Mackrill with Jacqueline Parry (Melb), Sophie Abbatangelo (Nth), Daisy D'Arcy (GCS), Maggie Caris (Melb).

Just noticed a glitch showing in match day. Nell Morris Dalton showing as a second fwd emergency for Valks. She’s been delisted at msd and not showing in the “enter my team’ zone so just a ghost. I’ll try a clear team at end of round to see if that fixes.
I picked up Dupuy to be my emergency ruck after Jasmine Simmons’s wasn’t named in Sunday’s teams, just in case Pearce was a late out for Melbourne. Thankfully Pearce played, because Dupuy was a late out herself!
I was actually at the footy when I posted this at half time. Went to watch the Pies vs Lions with my daughter @Esther
The Mystix selection committee have made 4 changes to their Round4 team as they take on their archrivals from Bathurst @Len in an away clash. Midseason recruit Chantel Emonson joins Isabelle Pritchard as 2 ins to the backline, replacing the injured Randall and departed Jordan Ivey, while Elizabeth Georgostathis replaces Jess Weutchner in the forwards and Leah Cutting replaces the injured Kaitlyn Ashmore on the IC. Jacquie Yorston moves to the IC emergency this week as she builds further form and fitness, while Carlton duo Nat Plane and Elise O'Dea are also emergencies along with midseason pickups O'Driscoll and Ferguson. Note this team is subject to change. Def = Emonson, Pritchard, Keryk (O'Driscoll) Mid = Drennan, M Prespakis, A McDonald, Cain (Yorston) Fwd = Hore, E Antonio, Georgostathis (Plane) Ruck = Seymour (O'Dea) IC = Gavalas, Cutting (Ferguson) 2nds - Woosha Injured/HSP - Zreika, C Randall, Ashmore postponed game topups - nil (subject to change)
Midway through the 3rd quarter of a high scoring contest the visiting Mystix have edged ahead of the Belles @Len by 80 points 8/493 to 8/413. The Belles will look to wrest the lead with a 3:1 advantage in the Carlton vs Adelaide game before the Mystix look to charge home with a 3-2 advantage in the NM vs Freo game and Leah Cutting from the Mystix being the sole Tuesday night representative from the 2 sides. Bathurst - Pound, E Jones, D Walker, Houghton and Rennie to play Mystix - M Prespakis, Cain, E Antonio, Gavalas and Cutting to play
My preliminary scoring has the Legends all out for 595, while we are 628 from 12 with Xenos to play on Tuesday (or Scheer's 29 if Xenos isn't named). Interestingly (for me and me alone), Martin, Tighe and Brown all now have averages of 50 (give or take a half point) and are fighting it out to be New Galah of the Season 2022.
After averaging less than 600 points across back to back losses in Rounds 3 and Round 4 the fifth placed Lake St Clair Devils have lifted for the rivalry round encounter with sixth placed Pomona. LSC Devils have delivered their best performance of the season to score 827 with Int 2 Catherine Phillips still to play tomorrow night. @anthak ’s Pomona Wood Nymphs are 637/11 with Saints defender duo Tilly Lucas-Rodd and Bianca Jakobson still to play, trailing by 190 points but with one more player to take the field. Wood Nymph M1 Ebony Marinoff raised the bar even higher than her usual lofty standards to have 31 disposals, lay 10 tackles and score 140 points and is almost certain to maintain her sequence of polling five votes in the league best and fairest during odd numbered rounds in 2022. Only three Pomona players have scored 55+ with Marinoff being joined in this category by ruck Lauren Pearce (88) and midfielder Catherine Svarc (78) from the interchange. In Rounds 3 and 4 the Lake St Clair Devils had a total of two scores above 65 – both to Monique Conti with 78 and 97. It was a far different story in Round 5 with seven of 12 Devils so far scoring 65+. Against Pomona the LSC Devils delivered a midfield masterclass with the five mids to play on the weekend scoring at least 95 points each and combining for 509 points – Kirsty Lamb (108), Jasmine Garner (103), the aforementioned Conti (102), Lily Mithen (101) and Emma Swanson (95) in a superb consistent performance. Forward Eden Zanker (87) and ruck Emma King (67) were the other Lake St Clair Devils to score 65+. The Devils are on track to register the strong win spoken about in the opening post and maintain pressure on the fourth placed Valkeries who upset the Devils by 43 points in Round 3.
It’s been tough to keep up with you this round, DMA, but I’m still holding out hope our Saints’ defenders bring it home for the win at the death.
