A fairly large set of fresh rookies are already named in the 18 or 22 for this weekend.

    J Dawson (123.9k FM, page 335 of the 2017 prospectus), Balic (123.9k FM, p134), Logue (180.3k D, p141), Berry (139.8k DM, p56), McLuggage (202.8k FM, p62), Durdin (123.9k F, p256), Parsons (117.3k F, p168), and T Smith (102.4k F, p248).

    With B Long (117.3k DF, p319), L Dawson (195.1k DF, p58), H McKay (123.9k F, p81), Williamson (117.3k D, p86) and J Stewart (169.8k F, p126) on the 7 man interchange there is potential for one or 2 of those to join them

Jy Simpkin - edit and Ben Ainsworth - is out injured, while several rookies are also named on the 7 man bench including T Miles (F/M), Macreadie (D), Pickett (F/M), McGrath (D/M) and Barrett (M).

Which means Preuss, Pickett, Eddy, Pickett, Bowes and Florent amongst others definitely have another run this weekend.

Of the sub $200k rookies dropped after Round 1 Shoenmakers, Mountford and Hibberd failed to make the 25 for Round 3, while Foote returns for Sydney and Menzel is an emergency for the Crows.

Hayward, N Newman, Burton, D Swallow and Broomhead are amongst the rookies who back up for their 2nd consecutive games.

No D Cameron for the Swans (missing the 25) with Callum Sinclair picked to replace Tippett.

I am not sure whether N Roo actually plays on Sunday, fingers crossed for those who held him.

Great Rookie overview Tassie Hawk! It's gone from famine to feast. Hopefully a few of the debutants can manage a run of games

At last Ross Lyon has been overpowered at selection, Dawson OUT, hope he continues to blood some rookies.

Good week from an ORFFL perspective, would have been nice if Freo had also given Collins a run though.

It depends on who he would start ahead of - if you have Florent at M9/F7 tonight you may be able to see how he goes and then decide on rolling the dice on Preuss or another rookie.

Where this devious falls down is the loop is Darcy Cameron... So it'd have to be all in our nothing! (?I think)

Probably better not to risk Preuss if you can't loophole him out of a sub 55 score but can loophole elsewhere instead.

Interested in some advice from the brainstrust around here.

I am trading out J.Smith and McCarthy (yes, McCarthy was a stupid gamble that I deeply regret!).

I can afford any combination of the options below.
Trade in one DEF: Otten v Newman v Marchbank
Trade in one FWD: Houston v WHE v Preuss (maybe... via DPP)

DEF will not be on-field (unless subbing Hampton). FWD will be on-field unless I decide to go with one of Eddy/Parfitt/Pickett instead.

I'm currently thinking that I'd rather go for the cheapies rather than Marchbank/WHE - just because the point of any of the players I'm trading in is that they are all about cash generation rather than ending up in my final 6 on-fielders. And by going cheapies, it ties up less capital and keeps the freedom for other changes/upgrades as required in the coming weeks. I've learned in recent years that there's nothing more annoying than missing out on the player you *really* want to trade-in to replace someone with an LTI just for the sake of ~$30K.

And it will be deeply annoying if both WHE and Houston both score around 80 this week. On balance, as soon as WHE has a ~75 week (which I believe he was tracking for at 3QT last week), he's not nearly as valuable for the investment... well, as long as either Houston or Preuss keeps their place in their teams. I'm also a little dubious about Preuss's scoring capacity when Goldy is playing. Will Houston hold his place for much longer??

In terms of Otten vs Newman, it's job security that makes me most worried. Is Otten wavering on the chopping block despite a great score last week given other players returning from injury? Newman shows promise and is mature-age, but what are his likely prospects for staying in the team? Perhaps also worth considering waiting a week for Newman vs one of the new rookies that might be a superstar (Berry?).

Interested in anyone's comments, or votes for:
Option 1: Marchbank & WHE (because my reasoning above sucks, and you think I'm better off paying for JS)
      Option 2: Otten & Houston
      Option 3: Newman & Houston
      Option 4: Otten & WHE
      Option 5: Newman & WHE
Thumbs up: Hold fire on DEF, then go with Berry or Newman or ?? in coming weeks, & Houston
Thumbs down: Hold fire on DEF, then go with Berry or Newman or ?? in coming weeks, & WHE

It takes a lot of time for BB to put together the best buys, time that he sadly no longer has!

That said though, if anyone does have the time and passion to pick up the mantle, by all means, go for it (cause man, I miss it!)

In the mean time though, MyTeams > Trade Plans is filling in for me :D

I am still considering a Hanners downgrade to Nankervis which would leave enough cash to upgrade a rookie to a non ruckman.

Who is the best option up to $426k ?

For the record my Rd 3 changes were O'Meara to Murphy and McCartin to Houston. In hindsight McCartin wasn't a great pick, but the AFL captains picked him for a breakout, not sure that will translate to points now though. O'Meara not so bad, but Murphy is shaping as a potential top 10 scorer, so worth sneaking him in while I can afford to. He was close to getting a start pre-season anyway.

Only my opinion, but I probably couldn't go passed WHE and Otten. To answer your concerns, I'd say that Otten is pretty safe in terms of job security and that WHE is a superior option to Houston since I'm uncertain on both Houston's job security and if he can keep up his current rate of scoring

At that price TTH, I'd probably be looking at WHE, and leaving cash in the kicker for future upgrades.

Though Oliver is certainly tempting! :D

Thanks RPritch. I agree that it *seems* the most sensible option. However, there's something about WHE that makes me nervous (which is why he wasn't in my team to start with). Maybe unwarranted, I dunno. I'm worried he'll fall to 70-75ppg... at which point he's in that awkward "on-field but not doing enough" especially given many rookies might score that at a much cheaper price.

I tell you... kram makes a really interesting point above. Now could be the best possible time to jump on the Murphy train. So I'm now considering not worrying so much about cash generation and jumping on a super-prem at a bargain basement price instead. This means holding off on the DEF trade, and coming up with some convoluted option to get him into the MIDs (which would definitely mean McCarthy => Houston). Hmmmmm. Probably means the kiss of death for poor ol' Murph if I go ahead with that strategy, though!
