Thanks for that and also @anthak. Does not seem a lot of sense keeping a player out for the season at the expense of a playing recruit (particularly this year), effectively leaving you with a core of 13.
Essentially they are replaced, so the squad is 23 rather than 22. It is at the expense of a playing keeper, which in some cases, ie a top 5-6 player, makes sense, compo varies but end of 2nd round can be quite likely to make the keeper cut the following season.
