A near photo finish at Majorca has the unofficial scoreboard as Islanders 842 to the Royals 836 @Peter W
The Llamas couldn't overcome the challenge and Darmstadt @WillH_VI have gotten some revenge for last season's grand final with a comfortable 200 point victory over Lima (919 to 719 unofficially). The match between last year's bottom-tablers was much more competitive. With an impressive seven players scoring over 100 this match, the Kickers (927) @Chloe have edged it out over the Vultures (894) @Athos123
Initial round 1 results see the Caribou record an early victory against the Kruisers 812 to 707 Congrats @FreeKickLiam
Corza's All Stars have lived up to their name on debut, with a comprehensive victory - 915 to 740 - over Stuttgart Storm. The All-Stars featured high scoring across all lines (and their bench)! - In defence, Thomas (79) and Goldrick (72) impressed whilst Hosking (87) nearly top scored from the bench. - Through the middle, Nanscawen (114), McDonald (111) and Barr (116) all passed the 110 mark, along with powerful ruck Sabina Frederick (118) - The on field forwards struggled to finish the good work, but were ably supported by Casey Sherriff (67) and Daria Bannister (63) from the interchange / bench. Stuttgart Storm had a few standouts but largely put up a disappointing effort. A large number of midfielders failing to deliver, with Bates, Hill, Mithen and Cain all failing to reach 65. But some promising performances from Rebecca Webster (89), Charlie Rowbottom (104) and Eliza West (106) should hopefully create a platform to build from next week.
The Round 1 review is brought to you by ChatGPT, and - inspired by Caribou selection #222 (Vicki Wall) in the recent re-draft - has channelled the style of the late great Richie Benaud Good evening, cricket fans—wait, no, scratch that—football fans! It’s Richie Benaud here, giving you the lowdown on Premier League Round 1. If you thought the opening games would be as predictable as a night watchman’s innings, you’re in for a surprise. Let’s take a stroll through the first round of action where some teams soared and others...well, let’s just say they’ll be looking for a good weather forecast for the rest of the season! @hoschke118 @WillH_VI First up, we had the Lima Llamas against the Darmstadt Dynamos in the 2023 Grand Final Replay. Now, if you thought the Dynamos might be in for a quiet day, think again. They charged through the Llamas with the kind of energy that would make a Red Bull look lethargic. Final score: Dynamos 919, Llamas 712. The Llamas probably felt like they’d been given a crash course in dynamo dynamics – and they didn’t pass! @Athos123 @Chloe Next, it was the Vancouver Vultures facing the Korean Kickers. The Kickers kicked, and boy did they kick hard, finishing 927 to 894. The Vultures might have been hoping for a little peck at the top spot, but the Kickers showed them that when it comes to scoring, you either get the goal or you get the boot. The Vultures’ feathers are probably still ruffled. @FreoDockers @FreeKickLiam In the Kyoto Kruisers vs. Quebec Caribou clash, the Kruisers were outmaneuvered by the Caribou, who managed to outscore them 810 to 714. It was a bit like watching a majestic stag dancing circles around a slightly confused crane. The Kruisers might want to look into a new GPS system because they were definitely lost in the game. @Jono Steven @Corza Then we had Stuttgart Storm against the enigmatic (and still placeless) All-Stars. The All-Stars weren’t just a mystery; they were a full-blown enigma wrapped in a riddle, as they cruised to a 1006 to 813 victory. The Storm must have felt like they were caught in a cyclone of All-Star talent. It’s safe to say, they’re going to need more than a weather report for their next match. TTH @Peter W Finally, in a match that was tighter than a drum, the Majorca Islanders just edged out the Lagos Royals with an 846 to 833 win. It was like trying to split a hair with a chainsaw—every single point mattered. The Islanders showed that sometimes, a little more effort is all it takes to beat the royal blues. And there you have it – the first round of the Premier League served up a buffet of surprises and high drama. It’s been a week of high scores, close calls, and a few teams trying to figure out what hit them. Join us next time for more thrills, spills, and dramatic fantasy football action.
