Round 6 is here – our second last before finals - and the whips are cracking now! Darmstadt Dynamos (4th, 3 – 2, @WillH_VI) vs Stuttgart Storm (6th, 3 – 2, @Jono Steven) The round begins with a huge clash between the Dynamos and the Storm! Despite the similar standings, these two teams have had massively different seasons – the Dynamos are looking to respond after two back-to-back losses (despite top scoring for the season), whilst the Storm have won three on the trot to find themselves in contention once more. This match-up is the first matchup for the #1 and #2 draft picks, Ebony Marinoff and Charlie Rowbottom! With very little time left to cement a finals spot, will the Dynamos scoring power overwhelm the Storm or will the Storm continue their streak? Korean Kickers (3rd, 4 – 1, @Chloe) vs Quebec Caribou (1st, 4 – 1, @FreeKickLiam) Next up is a clash of titans! The Kickers and Caribou have both dominated the 2024 season, with both looking likely to finish top 4 from here. But this contest could decide who ends top 2 and secures the double chance. The Kickers will have to reach deep for this one, with recent injuries to Emma Kearney, Aine Tighe and Eden Zanker set to test their squad depth. Will the injection of fresh mid-season draftees help lift the Kickers over the Caribou? Lagos Royals (8th, 1 – 4, @Peter W) vs Corza All-Stars (5th, 3 – 2, @Corza) It may be Round 6, but it is crunch time for the Lagos Royals. Two wins to end the season gives them a chance for finals, so it is now or never. The impressive form of Serene Watson in defence will give them a fighting chance, but they’ll need to post a big score this week without several forwards available. They are not alone on the injury front with the All-Stars suffering from a few supernovas of late. Injuries to Amy McDonald and Katie Brennan has given cause for a reshuffle – will they look to inject the pace of Niamh Kelly? The imposing strength of Sabrina Frederick? A potential new role for Erika O’Shea? Whatever the choice, this matchup will make this an intriguing contest to watch. Lima Llamas (10th, 0 – 5, @hoschke118) vs Majorca Islanders (2nd, 4 – 1, @TheTassieHawk) The return of Bri Davey will be greatly welcomed, but you can’t pull the wool over this team’s eyes – this season has basically been llamagedon. Fresh debutants this week from the mid-season draft (including #1 draft pick Sarah Goodwin and #10 Emmelie Fiedler) will see the Llamas field a much stronger side, but the Islanders have been on a tear lately scoring 977 and 1068 in their last two games. With strengths across every line and an imposing forward line, the Islanders will take some beating as they continue their march towards finals. Kyoto Kruisers (9th, 0 – 5, @FreoDockers) vs Vancouver Vultures (7th, 3 – 2, @Athos123) The Kruisers focus is shifting at this point of the season to development, with #2 pick in the mid-season draft Kaitlyn Srhoj a chance to debut here. But they still have the opportunity to influence the finals, with the Vancouver Vultures circling finals at the moment - barely 6 points outside the top six. A healthy victory here for the Vultures is necessary, lest they retire the season for their Vancouver Island Condo(r)minium. Much will rest on the health of Abbie McKay, who is due to return following an adductor strain last week, and #3 draft pick Maddy Guerin, who is a test this round. _ _ _ _ _ Make sure to post your teams on this thread by 7:15pm (AEST) Thursday with the Demons vs. Giants kicking us off. At full time the Islanders prevail 1047 to the Llamas 743 @hoschke118 according to the unofficial scoreboard.
The Round 6 round review is once again brought to you by ChatGPT Dynamos 1018 def Storm 841 In a match that had more twists than a pretzel factory, the Dynamos powered through the Storm like a tornado in a trailer park. With enough points to make even the rain clouds reconsider their life choices, the Dynamos showed they could score as easily as I can eat pizza—very, very quickly! Kickers 684 def by Caribou 926 The Kickers seemed to have forgotten their boots (and 2 forwards) at home and played this match like they were wearing clown shoes! Meanwhile, the Caribou danced around the field, scoring with the elegance of a ballet dancer on ice skates. Someone tell the Kickers that "kick" doesn’t mean “kick back and relax.” Royals 852 def All Stars 803 In a battle fit for a royal court, the Royals took down the All Stars, proving that sometimes, the crown really does make a difference. The All Stars were left questioning their life choices—probably wondering how they ended up as the court jesters in this matchup. Long live the Kings and Queens of the footy field! Llamas 745 def by Islanders 1047 The Llamas looked like they’d rather be grazing in a field than playing footy, while the Islanders brought the heat like they were auditioning for a tropical vacation ad. The final score was about as close as a llama is to a beach party—very far apart! Someone tell the Llamas it’s okay to run once in a while! Vultures 837 def Kruisers 699 The Vultures swooped in for an easy win over the Kruisers, who appeared to be driving in reverse for most of the match. With a score that resembled a bad high school report card, the Kruisers might want to reconsider their game plan—or at least their choice of snacks before the game! Final Thoughts Another wild round in the Premier League! From Dynamos storming through to Vultures picking at leftovers, this week had everything but a dull moment. Tune in next time, because you never know which team will trip over their own shoelaces next! The ladder as at round 6 shows the Islanders and Caribou have sealed their finals spots with the Dynamos breathing down their necks in the battle for the top 2. Teams 4 through 8 all remain in the hunt mathematically with a round to play.
