Yep is getting tight now, a few teams even have aspirations of making finals.
    Pfft, finals schminals!

First game kicks off on Thursday night.

    Devils vs Trailblazers
5th vs 9th with both teams still in the hunt for a finals berth. Blazers need a lot to go right though to pull this one off.

    Dragons vs Jets
Jog on, this will be a blood bath.

    Galahs vs Valks
Valks had a good chance to notch up a win last week, but didn’t.
Expect much of the same nailbiting disappointment this week.

    Mystix vs Wallabies
Match of the round which will shape the top 2.
    I’m tipping Wallabies by 15.
No logic to this, just a premonition after seeing a wallaby once, a few weeks ago, in my yard, was in reasonably good health.

    Krushers vs Nymphs
    Krushers can mathematically make finals.
Shhh, we all need glimmers to cling onto once in a while.

    Sirens vs Belles
Probably no winners here. Belles a sneaky chance to fall into finals if other results go their way. Edge of your seat stuff. ;)

I am picking the wrong forwards and defenders almost every week.
This week Laura Pugh scored 90+ and I didn’t even have her as an emergency after she’s been in my starting XIII for most of the season.
Also, Saint scored 22 more than Bannister this week.
I can’t find the right mix. Every week I get it wrong.

Watson, Ponter & Hodder have played every game for me, and are all consistent enough to stay in the team every week.
But here are my other defenders and forwards, with all their scores every week; made bold when in the starting XIII; or underlined if an emergency; and normal text when not named at all, or italics if not named and scored better than a starter.

***Nicole Bresnehan is named in my side to play round 7, but her game is later today. Everyone else in this list has already played their round 7 game.

    Defenders:
    Nicole Bresnehan 40, 38, 55, 37, 71, 56, *R7*.
    Laura Pugh 40, 44, 35, 54, 22, 41, 92.
    Tahlia Gillard 29, 20, 36, 55, 66, 17, 30.
    Jodie Hicks 25, 28, 37, 46, 49, 72, 43.
Brooke Brown DNP, DNP, DNP, DNP, DNP, DNP, 44.

    Forwards:
    Daria Bannister 63, 36, 27, 54, 89, 64, 29.
    Ashleigh Saint 63, 38, 35, 24, 68, 62, 51.
    Kellie Gibson 54, 68, 62, 54, 48, DNP, 36.

Looking at this, I actually picked my forward right in 4 out of the 7 rounds, which isn’t too bad.
But the defenders have been a mess every round.

I feel like defenders are just like this in AFLW... In the official game I try to start the season prioritising reliable defenders (eg Kearney most years) so I don't end up chopping and changing and getting nowhere.

Lake St Clair Devils 270/4 Average 67.5

    Vs

    @Peter W's Timboon Trailblazers 657/11 Average 59.7

In his preview That KI Guy wrote:

The last sentence is looking even more accurate now with the Trailblazers needing a magnificent defensive performance to slow down the Devils scoring and get the victory.

A Lake St Clair win against the Trailblazers would keep their finals chances alive and set up a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 ORFFW home and away season with LSC on the road playing their 2023 nemesis, @anthak's Pomona in Round 8. The Devils are fifth on the ladder and rank fifth for total points scored behind the top four teams. At the end of Round 6 two teams were one win and points for ahead of LSC (5,316 points), third placed Wongan Hills (5,473) and fourth placed Pomona (5,472). If the Devils can get into a commanding position against Timboon this weekend attention will then turn to attempting to lift the scoring rate to reduce the points for deficit to Wongan Hills and Pomona.

And Bresnehan only scored 18 today, adding further to this story!
