@That KI Guy ’s Vivonne Bay Valkeries vs @Len ’s Bathurst Belles

After 62 games in the 2025 ORFFW season the Grand Final combatants have been determined with @That KI Guy’s Vivonne Bay Valkeries hosting @Len’s Bathurst Belles in the 63rd and final game of the season. Previous ORFFW seasons have shown that finals football is a very different beast to home and away football, with the lower ranked road team frequently upsetting their higher ranked opponent in finals. This pattern continued in 2025 with both semi finals being won by the road team.

@ThatKIGuy’s Vivonne Bay Valkeries looked likely finalists throughout the 2025 ORFFW season and were as high as second on the ladder after Round 6, two wins ahead of the fifth placed Belles. In the closing stages of the home and away season the Valkeries were overtaken by @anthak ’s Pomona Wood Nymphs with both clubs finishing with a record of eight wins and two losses at the end of the home and away season. Pomona due to having the superior points for, 9,540 to 9,154 earned second place and hosting rights for their semi final against the third placed Vivonne Bay.

@ver_redit_optatum ’s Glenbrook Galah’s were the early season pace setters in the 2025 ORFFW season and maintained this momentum to win their first seven games of the season. The Galah’s only loss of the home and away season was by 12 points, 944 to 956 in Round 8 to the Junee Jets. Glenbrook were convincing minor premiers, leading the ORFFW with nine wins and ranking first with 9,789 points for. Whilst the Galahs had a finals berth locked in with several rounds remaining they had to wait until the final round to find out who their semi final opponent would be.

In a thrilling Round 8 game the Vivonne Bay Valkeries on the road defeated the Bathurst Belles by four points, 901 to 897. This loss by the Belles left them in a precarious position in sixth position with four wins, two wins behind the second placed Pomona Wood Nymphs and the third placed Vivonne Bay Valkeries. They were also one win behind the fourth placed Wongan Hills Wallabies and fifth placed Timboon Trailblazers. In Round 9 the Bathurst Belles thrashed the Como Comets 912 to 593 to keep their finals chances alive. The Bathurst Belles entered Round 9 in fifth place with 20 premiership points but had their finals destiny in their own hands playing the fourth placed Wongan Hills Wallabies who had 24 premiership points. Critically the Belles had the points for advantage over the Wallabies, 8,542 to 8,299, enabling the Belles to leapfrog the Wallabies if they won their final round game. A third team the Timboon Trailblazers were also in contention for the fourth and only remaining finals berth available. Timboon entered Round 10 level with Bathurst on 20 premiership points but inferior points for, 8,210 to trail the Belles by 332 points. The Trailblazers had a mathematical chance of making the finals, needing to win their own game, bridge the 332 point gap to the Belles and needed the Belles to defeat the Wallabies. The game hosted by the fourth place Wallabies against the fifth placed Belles in Round 10 was as close to an NBA style play-in game as you could get. The Bathurst Belles led by 123 points from midfielder Laura Gardiner and well supported by another 70+ scores defeated the Wallabies by 140 points, 969 to 829 to book a finals berth.

In semi final 1 Len’s Belle’s on the road reached the magical quadruple figure mark, scoring exactly 1,000 to defeat minor premiers, the Galahs by 27 points. The Valkeries on the road recorded a 53 point victory over Pomona in semi final 2, 943 to 890.

When the Valkeries defeated the Belles by four points in round 8 this year the next game between the two clubs became a highly anticipated encounter. That encounter has come much earlier than the vast majority of people in the ORFFW community anticipated with the Valkeries and Belles both having upset semi final victories to set up a return clash and the highest stakes possible with the victorious team to win the 2025 ORFFW Premiership.

@That KI Guy and @Len are both very experienced ORFF* coaches and have done battle against each other from opposing coaches boxes in several TooSerious leagues. In 2025 the duo are rivals in three leagues, ORFFW, ORFFA and TSAddicts. Len was one of the inaugural coaches for the ORFFA’s debut 2011 season whilst @ThatKIGuy joined the Association in it’s third season in 2013. Len and ThatKIGuy are both premiership coaches in the ORFFA where they have been coaching against each other for more than a decade. The Round 8 ORFFW game been the Belles and Valkaries was one of the games of the season, the stakes have risen significantly for the re-match a mere four weeks later.

Vivonne Bay have been more consistent throughout the 2025 ORFFW season and have more finals experience. On the flip side the Belles have peaked at the ideal time are battle hardened and actually have the points for advantage against their higher ranked opponent.

After the 2025 ORFFW Grand Final teams are announced another post will be made covering the Valkeries and Belles Grand Final teams, the classic Round 8 game this season and both clubs rise to make the 2025 GF.

Thanks to all coaches for competing in the 2025 ORFFW season and posting in threads and congratulations to @That KI Guy and @Len on making the Grand Final.

Thanks to @TheTassieHawk for co-ordinating the 2026 intercomp and the 2025 qualifiers which determine some of the berths. Below are some details for the 2026 intercomp and the status of the 2025 qualifiers provided by TTH.

With the Blazers, Kruisers and All Stars qualifying there are now 13 teams through to the 2026 intercomp.

With the Comets, Kickers and Llamas losing their are now three teams unable to qualify.

This leaves the following 3 all FW clashes in Round 12 for the final 3 spots, geared towards completing the set of games between ORFFW opponents who did not play each other in the 2025 regular season.

Round 12 Intercomp Matches (no games for Timboon, Como and losing Prelim finalists)
Match 9 Wallabies vs Mystix (previously played in Round 1)
Match 10 Devils vs Sirens (have not played in 2025)
Match 11 Jets vs Dragons (have not played in 2025)
