Jaguars don't seem to have a lot to work with these day, we'd blame the recruitment officer, but nepotism makes him immune

"Oh there's a track winding back to an old fashioned shack along the road to Gundagai
Where the gumtrees are growing and the Murrumbidgee's flowing, beneath the sunny sky!"

Not sure what waits for the cows when we get there @snoz . But I am pretty sure it's not a W.

    The rebuild continues.

I'll stick with my honest wines thanks all the same @snoz .

I cannot resist this: after the injury to Mitch Edwards' ankle our chances of a W are Slim to Dusty.

Anzac Day Round 2026 is the 14th Anniversary of the establishment of the ORFFA.

Earlier in 2012 a fantasy football league, the ORFFL commenced on the Too Serious website. On Anzac Day itself in 2012 Xenomorph (X) made a post re Expressions of interest – New ORRFL franchises. Back in 2012 Anzac Day fell on a Wednesday and there was one game, the traditional game between Collingwood and Essendon at the MCG which was the first game of Round 5. There was significant interest from Too Serious members who wanted a franchise, and the next day, Thursday 26 April a new 18 team league, the ORFFA was set up.

The 2012 AFL season consisted of 23 rounds. The aim was to have each ORFFA team play each other once, requiring 17 rounds from AFL Round 7 to Round 23. Round 7 started on Friday 11 May, just 16 days after X made his post asking for expressions of interest in a new Too Serious League. I was fortunate enough for my Cradle Mountain Devils to have pick 1 in the inaugural ORFFA draft and had no hesitation in selecting Scott Pendlebury. Pendlebury led the AFL with 129.8 Supercoach points per game in 2011 and was 24 years of age at the time of the inaugural ORFFA Draft. The inaugural ORFFA Draft was a 26 round snake order draft. Round 5 of the 2012 AFL season concluded on Sunday 29 April. By 8 am on Monday 30 April more than 100 draft picks had been made and we were in the back half of Round 6 in the Inaugural ORFFA draft. For the next four days an average of 2.5 rounds per day were completed in the ORFFA draft and by 8 am on Friday 4 May, the opening day of AFL Round 6 a total of 286 picks had been taken, placing us late in Round 16.

I don’t know what day the inaugural ORFFA Draft was completed but we achieved our aim of starting the ORFFA season in Round 7 of the AFL season. Completing the inaugural ORFFA draft so quickly required great teamwork and the use of shortlists being provided to other ORFFA coaches if we were unavailable to make selections for several hours. When short lists weren’t provided late in the inaugural ORFFA draft some picks were taken out of order to enable the ORFFA to play their first round in Round 7 of the AFL season. One of the many picks which were skipped to be taken later was ChiefRussell ’s pick 429 for the Foul Bay Chickens. JC then selected ruck, Mark Seaby with pick 430, the player CR wanted with pick 429, the fourth last pick of the 24th round. 14 years later this is still will remembered with ORFFA Round 3 of the 2026 season being Mark Seaby Round. As JC wrote in this thread after CR realised he was unable to select Seaby as had already been selected with the pick after his pick “all hell broke loose.”

With the 2026 AFL season starting two weeks earlier than the 2012 season the 2026 Anzac Day Round is also the 14th anniversary of the very first round of ORFFA games in Round 7 of the 2012 season. At the time of being drafted with pick 430 of the inaugural ORFFA draft Seaby had played four games in the first six rounds of the AFL season, Rounds 2, 4, 5 and 6. For all of the kerfuffle regarding Mark Seaby he amazingly played only one more AFL game after the ORFFA draft, the ORFFA’s very first round in Round 7 of the 2012 AFL season. Refer to the Mark Seaby AFL Tables link below. It is fitting that Seaby was a ruckman as although rucks account for 1/13th of an ORFFA teams starting side equating to 7.7%, rucks have accounted for far more than 7.7% of the stress for coaches of an ORFFA team.

    https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/M/Mark_Seaby.html

Part of the reason CR was reluctant to provide short lists in the inaugural ORFFA draft is that he wanted to zig when other coaches zagged. CR did an amazing job in the inaugural ORFFA draft and his Foul Bay Chickens won the first two ORFFA premierships in 2012 and 2013. The Chickens were unable to win that elusive third premiership despite finishing on top of the ladder four times from 2015 to 2021 (2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021).

All ORFFA coaches are going to have memories about specific players they selected in the inaugural draft in 2012. For me the first two players that spring to mind are the last two inaugural Devils standing, pick 1 Scott Pendlebury and pick 325 (first pick of Round 19) Dayne Zorko, a then 23 year old forward/midfielder who was yet to make his AFL debut despite winning four consecutive club best and fairest awards for the Broadbeach Cats in the AFLQ and NEAFL competitions. As a mature age player I thought Zorko had considerable SuperCoach upside. Zorko made his AFL debut the week after the Devils selected him, the ORFFA’s first ever round, Round 7 of the 2012 season.

    https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/D/Dayne_Zorko.html

Zorko well and truly exceeded my expectations and is a rare player that has averaged triple figures for SC points per game in a season in each of the ORFFA’s three multi-position lines, defense, midfield and forward.

My unofficial score for Round 5 of the 2026 ORFFA season for the Devils is:

    Cradle Mountain Devils 1,228

    Defeated

    Venus Bay Vultures 1,149

The Devils at home held their five year premiership reunion to celebrate defeating the Vultures by 72 points, 1,466 to 1,394 in the 2021 ORFFA Grand Final. I will make a more detailed post about the Devils game this weekend and their five year premiership reunion later on. At 38 years of age Pendles had a career-high 43 disposals in the Devils victory this weekend and scored 148 SC points, the fourth highest score in the ORFFA for the round, but not enough to get the five Les W Medal votes. Vultures mid/def Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera scored 149 points from the M1 position.

For the remaining ORFFA coaches from 2012 season what are your memories from the inaugural draft and can you add some more detail to what I have written above. Does anyone know when the inaugural ORFFA draft in April/May 2012 concluded?
