Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,188 def Pakenham Parasites 1,151 In a closely fought contest the visiting Hughenden outfit snuck home by 37 points. The Parasites Marshall (106) dominated the younger P Dogs ruck in Emmett (44) with the midfield getting plenty of it, Butters (112), Anderson (95) and Windhager (92) pumping the ball forward. However without star forward Darcy due a season ending ACL last week, the forwards were not functioning as unit this week although Dary’s replacement Wilson (81) did his best. The Hughenden backline was solid and has been a feature of their season so far with Mills (102), Battle (98), Ash (92) and IQ (90) combining well to repel attack after attack. Hughenden’s forwards were all at sea and lacking any cohesion in scoring. The knee injury to Blicavs (13) just after half time was the defining point in the game, his all round flexibility was missed and the Parasites struggled to fill the void. The Parasites will be frustrated not to win this one and are now a couple of games out of the 8, but still in touch. Hughenden remains in the 8 by percentage and is having its best start to a season for number of years. Beagles named 15 players with one OOP, Hollands said fuggit and went to the pub instead.. Plovers named 14 players, Voss and Comben said what's good for Ollie is good for us and also failed to show.. In a controversial match with Swans players removed after completion of their game, it was a tight affair right to the end. Archie Roberts (140) continued his breakout season in defence for the Flat Bulls, taking leadership duties from a waning Maynard (52) and marshalling Whitfield (123) well. Parker’s supercoach revival continued, playing in the mids and scoring 103 to compliment Newcombes 136, and the forward line was full of centurions with Hill (102), Richards (101) and Cameron (118) all dominating. For the home side, the backline was surprisingly lean with only Tommy Stewart (115) hitting his stride. The middle of the ground was a touch bizarre, with Soligo not even suiting up, and new Dillo Windsor essentially scoring a personal best with 102; bring back the POOYA award! Jack Higgins wound the clock back with a lovely 111, and Treloar made a welcome return with a respectable 80. Eden Plovers 954 vs Pakenham Parasites 1176 After getting a win over Junee, the Plovers came in confident. But ran into a more consistant Pakenham side. But the upper tier players went well with 4 100+ scores, once the others come back from injury, might pick up some late wins. But that's been true for a while. Pakenham play Junee next week, going for 2 in a row. Eden play Korumburra, which is good to play early. A team stacked filled with players with upside, a reason for hope. And yet the loses continue to stack up. This week it was the Crocodiles who came to town, a cold blooded animal defying the laws of science by playing a winter sport. Perhaps there was just enough warmth in the aging autumn sun to power them or maybe the opponent so feeble that they rolled into the open mouth of the stationary croc. The later alternative would be unfair though, especially to the likes of Wilmot (144), Bolton (134), Noble (132) and Andrew (105) who were superb and allowed the usual stars in Sheezel and Wilkie to play reduced roles. Some Cormorants did enough to stoke the fires of optimism and ensure some hope remains, just enough to do it all again next week. Blanchetown Bunyips 1107 Def Exmouth Anglers 959 @eagle_eyed Well, we dodged a bullet there. No Dawson, no Rowell, no problems!! Luckily the visiting Anglers also had 3 missing players. That didn't stop the rest of the rabble having a good 'ole scrap. That was led by Max Gawn (104) taking the young gun Max Heath (75) to task in the guts and giving LDU (112) and Walsh first use of the ball. Down back, there were good scores all round from both teams, but old school Bunyip Bailey Dale (141) lead all comers, close behind was Houston (135) and McCarthy (108) from the visitors. Up forward, the visitors 3 v 4 challenge was pretty much a tie with huge performances from Campbell (119), Treacy (105) and Morris (103) all raising the bat.
