Would love a fully fit Fyfe on my forward line, but will wait and see if/how he appears in the NAB cup. The only locks up front at this stage are Buddy and Dunny Martin.
re Fyfe, I'm undecided on him at the moment, but he played with a shoulder injury for most of last year. also, I wouldn't worry about him being a 3rd year player, he and Rockliff have proven themselves exceptons to the rule. My main concern with all Freo players is waiting to see how Ross Lyon structures the side.
I probably won't start with Fyfe because of injuries, price, and how Lyon will structure the team. I reckon I'll be better off using the cash to get Barlow in the midfield and a mid-pricer in the forward or back line.
Regardless of his fitness, Fyfe deserves credit for an astounding 2nd season last year, becoming a premium gun! What a champ. Apparently Morabund-bito was gonna take back fyfe's midfield freerange role this year, but that was when Harvey was supposed to be coach2012. Id love Fyfe to ease himself into the season and be a nice 450$ pickup abt round 8 or 9...
its difficult to me bc you cant pick Pendles, Swan, Watson and Barlow (all round12 byes); then theres heaps of good cheapies but also a heap of Mid/Fors, meaning Tom Mitchell might not get a spot purely bc its smarter to choose M/Fs and M/Def rookies. There are quite a few mid range mids well worth a look: eg: KJack... plus Conniglio Dom Tyson both exceptional but not the value of a 105k rookie... It's easy for you?
I've just gone with the cheap midfield rookies. Since there are only byes in rounds 11, 12, and thirteen I don't think it is that essential to have MPP links.
I'm very much liking the new crop of M/F's. Beams, Martin, Zaharakis and Robinson. Speaking of that last one, any interest there? Robinson will do a lot of inside work at carlton this year, and as we've seen he can really rack up the possessions, particularly against weaker sides.
what are peoples thoughts on robbie gray? started showing some consistency in the second half of last year, without injury too. will he step it up again? or will his team keep him from becoming a top scorer in my forward line? also, under neeld, will sylvia pull his head in and show some discipline?
@ Aero Robinson will be a gun player, no doubt IMO, but the main questions for me with him are how often he will get the FWD tagging role (I think regularly), and how long will he be suspended for? Mitch is too good at playing the FWD tag and running off his defender to not play him there, especially with no other stand-outs for the role, and his temper has always been a problem for him and I reckon it's only a matter of time before he sits out a few weeks. Once that happens of course it will probably happen again with the carry over points etc. With his price I'd want to be certain he will be worth it and so far it's a bit of an unknown quantity for me. Great choice for a calculated risk though
mmm, you make a good point on the suspensions. if memory serves he's already close to 100 points - but it's mostly for recklessness, not so much malice. he's no jarred waite. and for the price tag you probably do want to expect him to play all 22 games. he gets the FWD tag sometimes, and can play it really well (as fletcher and all essendon fans know). but I really think he'll be doing plenty of in-and-under work through the midfield along with curnow, ellard and possibly mclean. it's a lot of contested footy, and plenty of long kicking. might be too much of a risk though compared to the others, but a POD to watch nonetheless
@ tolla Gray will be a part of Port's expanded mid-field rotation this season so I expect to see his scoring more in line with what he produced in the 2nd half of 2011 when he started to play more minutes through the mid-field. As for his injury issues, 22 games without problems in 2011 after spending a week being tested at the AIS last pre-season says he finally understands his body and recovery requirements. From what I've heard on the grapevine regarding Sylvia, it seems he has had an interrupted pre-season to date - that to me says BEWARE!!!
My rating of Carlton MIDS: Marc Murphy Chris Judd Bryce Gibbs Kade Simpson Mitch Robinson Andrew Carrazzo David Ellard Ed Curnow Agree he is definitely one to watch but I can't see him taking up a real spot in the MID rotation when there are 3 standout players ahead of him and a few mid specialists. Carlton need the FWDs and Robbo is versatile enough to handle it
My forward lines needs work tbh Goodes, Martin, Christy, Gunston, Porps, Maric, Saad, Zorko and Walsh. Thiking that maric and gunston may need to be traded out for someone
Any love for Johnno Brown at 399k? Has shown he can smash big scores out if he can stay healthy, and he has had some pretty freak injuries. I remember 2 years ago he was the best SC player 3 weeks in with huge scroes..
