Went looking for GWS info tonight, so credit is due to a different website for this. Using the method of giving GWS players whom are named in their best each week points in which are allocated as Best: 1st- 6 points 2nd- 5 3rd- 4 4th- 3 5th- 2 6th- 1 So here is the list (Note- only players who are on GWS list can get points) Giles = 47 Shiel = 39 Clifton = 29 Hampton = 18 Cameron = 16 Phillips = 13 Hombsch = 12 Bugg = 10 Crook = 8 Miles = 7 Aylett, Williams, Ugle = 6 Flagg, Carey = 5 Falou = 3 Bruce = 2 From this we see that Giles, Shiel and Clifton are the three best for the time being. Giles- He is a mature age ruckman, who was at Port Adelaide but was delisted, was the best ruckman in the SANFL last year. Clifton- Another mature ager, midfielder, who was expected to be picked up along with Sewell(Who wasn’t), was joint winner with Shane Valenti of the J.J. Liston Trophy. Shiel- Probably the most impressive as he is only 18 years of age as of the 9th of March. Is a very talented midfielder,
Funky - you want to give credit, give the link and let them get some hits. Folau - difficult to see him having a high ranking if he's up forward for GWS as the ball won't be down there that often At best a possible DT player if he gets some confidence up in the back line alongside Davis and Chornes. I'm thinking not likely. SC players need elite skills for their position, and I've not seen anything from Harmichael or Folau that makes me think they will ever be anything better than average.
And yeah, I am looking at Giles now after that thread. The shame is in the past you could file it away, use it later for reference. Now it's common knowledge to even doofuses who fill their side with their favourites on the morning of the first match.
I'm thinking of getting Brandon Ellis (pick 15) for a few reasons: 1. I am a biased Richmond supporter 2. He is a defender 3. Richmond has bad backline 4. Should be at normal rookie price
I agree that Ellis could be a good rookie selection as there is room for a hard working skillful defender in the Tigers backline, and as you see with Lids and Newman it is usually a pretty productive place to be SC wise. Wingard could slot straight into the Power midfield and score well right from the get go. His price will be the main concern, but as we saw with Heppell last year sometimes they are still worth it. If Buntine is looking at playing the majority of games he could be worth a look also, but price will probably see me steer clear. If Beau Wilkes looks like slotting straight into the Saints backline during the pre season he could well be worth a look, especially with Rhys Stanley only jogging laps when I went to training Wednesday. The big O as has been said could slot straight into the ruck bench if he looks like getting games, although I still like Giles and there probably isn't room for the two of them. With not many mature aged players taken in the draft though I think I'll be looking heavily to the rookie draft for a lot of my bench spots.
Matty, why isn't there room for both Giles and Stephensen? Both rookie priced with almost assured game time and in different bye groups
I think it is mainly to do with the multi byes in that you will either have to have a R/F or a quality third ruck. If Stephensen is a R/F then there will definitely be room for both, but I don't think Giles will be R/F and without at least one R/F I think you could be very vulnerable during the multi byes. I haven't looked into this far enough though so this could be incorrect.
Fair call. Personally I'm hoping one will show some form by the time the byes roll around, and if not I'll probably just make one ruck trade around them. Should only have to cover one bloke for two of the byes anyway
Yeah that's true also, I haven't completely thought out my strategy yet but at the same time it is hard to ignore two rookie priced ruckman that are virtually assured some games! Swapping R/F might be robbing peter to pay paul anyway if the system goes back to two on the bench in all areas. So much to think of...
There was some talk about GWS trying to trade Giles back to an Adelaide team during Trade week. Not really sure what to make of that????

He has a year left on his contract, so he may just leave at the end of next year. Would make me especially nervous if i were a team with some good ruckmen coming out of contract. Iirc, Goldstein is out of contract, as is Ryder
