I know the NAB Cup has only just begun but someone's got to start the ball rolling. [span style='color: #ff0000;]Remember, this whole system works best if we comment on each others teams. Yeah a pretty good setup, Flyboy15. I was looking at Christensen too but couldn't find room. What's the story with Menzel up forward? I thought he was little to no chance (edit: to start round 1). I heard wrong? Colquhoun is getting a bit of love around the place but would need to be elevated. Anyone got any updates on that? Kane Mitchell needs elevation too iirc. Can Port elevate 2 rookies? If not, which of the two is more likely to get game time? I see you've gone for Dusty Martin. I'm stuck between him and Cloke. I'd go the midfielder over the power forward just about every day, especially when I'm already carrying Buddy, Kennedy and Cox up forward. But I just can't shake the feeling that Trav is going to come out strong this year and I just don't know enough about what made Dusty so average last year. His DPP status is useful, it's his 3rd(?) year, he's going to be a gun one day. It's gonna bug me for weeks

And my squad btw... Goddard, Pearce, Heppell, Yarran, Pedo, Russell (Docherty, Terlich) Ablett, Pendles, J Selwood, Cotchin, Ball, Wines, Crouch, O'Meara (Viney, Jones) Sandi, Leuenberger (S Rowe, Witts) Buddy, Cox, Cloke, Kennedy, Varcoe, Mayes (Caff, Lee) 69.4K in the bank I think that there is a lot of mid-priced value this year and I reckon the guys I've chosen have good JS and decent or better upside. The way I break down my projected scores has me realistically looking at between 2200 and 2250 for round 1 and I'll take that any year. If they all fire, then I (and about 15,000 other people) are gonna be laughing. There are some heavy hitters in that squad. Happy with my selected rookies, though I reckon I should squeeze another on in there. Just paranoid about the vest though. Most of the rookies are a year or more in the system; well rated mature aged rookies; ruckmen who don't really count, or kids who are going to be peddled out to drive up some early season membership sales. Then there's Ollie Wines. All up, a pretty balanced list, I think Just concerned about Mayes and Lee. Didn't like what I read about Lee from their intraclub match. He hardly got near it. Docherty should be good and they've talked up Mayes as a round 1 starter but at the end of the day their coach has made some pretty mystifying decisions thee last few years and I got no faith in him at all You know.... sacreligious though it may be.... Dumping Ablett and starting Squibbs in the midfield mightn't cost me much in the points scheme of things, especially with the captain's loophole. It frees up 230K to give me 300 to put on Mayes to turn him into Christensen, which should get me those points back. I also wind up reducing my Vossrisk. Might have a think about that.... Also thinking that Russell to Goodes or Pittard also gives me some bank in case Whitfield or O'Rourke turn out to be worth the price. However.... The GWS midfield faces: Sydney, Port, St Kilda, Melbourne, GCS in the first 5 weeks so there's points there to be had. After that they face Essendon, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Wiggles, Carlton and then Geelong. Something tells me that I don't wanna be trading into any GWS midfielders at round 3 and that the best value to be had with them is if they are there in round 1. But geez..... You got the fact that they are unknown and that there are just as interesting unknowns for almost half the price. Then there's the whole Sheedy thing. Anyways, I've gone way off topic. Sorry 'bout that. Happens a bit. RMT?

aj, you sound like you've put quite a bit of thinking into your starting lineup. FWIW with over a month to go, I can't see much wrong with your squad. Hard to tell how Malthouse will reorganise Carlton's game plan. It might suit Yarran better, or it might not. I'm probably leaning with the 'not' personally but early days still. From what I saw of Witts on Friday night, he is a long way off AFL level still. He tired quickly in what was already a short-length game. For the same price, I reckon Majak Daw has to be better value. Rowe for R/F shenanigans is OK and I made the same choice. I can see Rowe potentially playing for 5-6 games over the entire season, which might or not turn out to be important. Pedersen could be a good inclusion, but he may not yet be an automatic selection for R1. Would need him to show something special over NAB Cup, otherwise I have doubts on him in the starting lineup. Here is my current lineup: B: Goddard, Shaw, Watts, Broughton, Goodes, Docherty, (Terlich, Colquhoun) M: Ablett, Cotchin, Murphy, Griffen, Wines, Vlastuin, Crouch, O'Meara, (Mitchell, Viney) R: Maric, Leuenberger, (Daw, Rowe) F: Franklin, Cox, Walker, Rockliff, LeCras, Stringer (Macaffer, Kerridge) 25k in hand

Colquhuon is already on the Senior list at Port Adelaide. He was one of only 8 players picked up in the preseason draft, as opposed to the rookie draft. Kane Mitchell on the other hand, is currently rookie listed at Port Adelaide.

Thanks Jason. Re: Yarran. Picking Yarran has more to do with him being injured last year and continually copping the vest. He's priced at 60 something points and is worth so much more than that. He's quick, can find the ball and is a good kick. I reckon Mick will remember how Leon went in his last year at the Pies and go back to the well with that. Mick's also on record as saying recently that it might take a bit of time or the team to start playing the way he wants them to. Tells me that it might take a while but soon everything will be going through the flanks so get on to Chris Yarran. Mind you, I also figured Mick would take one look at Gibbs and think 'I can make him into the best back pocket this league has ever seen. He's tallish, has a beautiful kick and shirks the odd contest. It'll be just like what I did with Ryan Lonie'. Turns out I was wrong there so I might be wrong on Yarran too. Either way, I've got him as one of the group of about 7 players I'm hoping to average about 90 points from. There's word of him having more midfield time but who is he going to push out? And yeah Witts's tank is a worry. It's why I was originally more interested in Grundy but he tweaked something and Bux said he needed more time in the gym. Witts is basically there because Buckley has said he would get games this year. Jolly will miss games and you can bet that he will miss quite a few. Hudson was a good get but at 33... I see you mentioned Daw. If I went to North for R4, I'd be interested in Currie. What's got you thinking Daw? And thanks for the tip on Pedo. I reckon he got a bit shafted at North and see him lifting his numbers at the Dees, especially considering he's a big body in a club full of kids and gee I'm not liking how this paragraph is turning out..... Over on your squad, I see you got Watts in there. Nice one. Nice one. He was in my squad for a couple of days this week but dropping him for Russell let me go Mumford to Sandi and give me my 70K buffer. A lot of people laugh at Jack Watts so they won't consider him. But I reckon Neeld will get him up to being the gun he was drafted to be and it's set up well for this year I dig on Heater a bit too and think he's at a pretty good price right now. However, my round 13 action is looking atrocious right now so I gotta hope that his price dips at the right time and that I don't miss too many points in the meantime. Broughton? I dunno. Yeah maybe but I'm starting to consign him to the 'overhyped' basket now. Having old Rossco as your coach can screw with a player so yeah, maybe. Your midfield has some punch and Murphy/Griffen are pretty good value. Reckon Murphy will love playing under Mick too. Towers will be a good get and is on my radar. Which Mitchell did you pick? Up forward, I see LeCras over JJ. Is that because you see LeCras getting more midfield time? And you reckon Kerridge will get a good run at it?

JJK in his best year (2011) averaged mid 80s. Last year after injury early, he was back at mid 60s level, which was where he was at pre 2011 also. I'm not sold that he is going to be consistent enough to make good money. Looks to present a little bit of value, but not as much as the Frenchman.

I heard Bluey McKenna talk about how he wanted to use Broughton on radio a couple of weeks ago. In a role perfectly suited to SC, he sees Broughton as the playmaker from half back and certainly one of the back six each week. I liked what I heard.

Thanks again Jason. I guess with the WCE players I'm looking at a mid sized player coming back from a knee versus a KPF coming back from an ankle. For mine, they should both get up around a 90 average (Neither player has done this to date afaik) and Kennedy saves me cash. He's also getting to that ripe age for a power forward. Looking forward to seeing them both in a full game to get a handle on how they are moving. Yeah I read just now on another forum about Bluey and Broughton. Could be useful with Staker if I wanna play the emergency loophole thing, though there's a Port/Melbourne combo I'm also interested in for that

    I've just designed what I regard as a mobile tactical team: B: H.Scotland, P.Hanley, H.Grundy, H.O'Brien, J.Batchelor, B.Goodes, B.Staker, L.Plowman M: G.Ablett (C), B.Goddard, J.Bartel, A.Monfries, L.Whitfield, K.Stevens, B.Crouch, J.O'Meara, J.Viney, N.Vlastuin R: N.Naitanui, D.Hale, J.Witts, M.Daw F: L.Franklin, P.Ryder, D.Zorko, N.Bock, B.Maccaffer, J.Brown, C.Bartlett, J.Kennedy. I most like my ruck/fwd 123 combo with Nic-Nat, Hale and Ryder.

Holky, you might need another option to replace Staker as he is doubtful to start R1 at the moment after going for an operation recently. Bock and Monfries a little bit of a concern too, may or may not come good in time for R1. Can't say that I like Grundy as a keeper DEF to start with. He won't be getting any better at this stage of his career and was last year a little down on his previous year's scoring (again). I think there are better options at a similar (or cheaper) price in DEF than Grundy. I'm personally looking at Watts and Broughton for instance.

+ 1 on Jason's feedback Holky, also Bock is not going to be up for R1, Byrnes might be a good option for him within your sructure..

FlyBoy15, looks solid to me. However Pearce & Broughton in the back is a bit risky I think.
aj, very strong team also. Again, not sold on Pearce and of course Sandi is now injured.

Jason, I think you have got a great balance. I'm a big fan of Maric. I'm not sure on Franklin to start the year as I think he is overpriced but he had some pretty big scores last year when he did play.

HOLKY, wow that is very different to the norm. Watch Monfries as he's carrying an injury (not sure if this will effect r1) as is N.Naitanui & Bock. I had Hale last year and kept him to the end. Was pretty consistent as R2.

Would love some feedback on my team also:
B: Goddard, Waters, Gibbs, Suckling, Pittard, Terlich(Colquohoun & Goodes)
M: Ablett, Beams, Dangerfield, Jack, Moloney,Stevens, Mitchell, O'Meara (Viney & Crouch)
R: Jacobs, Leuenberger (Rowe & Currie)
F: Cox, Walker, Zorko, Watts, Varcoe, Macaffer(Kerridge & Lee)

Grundy and Gusare interesting picks - I think there are better options around similar price range. Also, get Goddard into your backline. Don't waste a midfield slot when you can lock him in down back.
