Early days at Ararat with only 5 and 9 players having taken the field. Thus far the Buffalos are looking strong with a dead set monty for the pooya in T.Varcoe scoring 145, taking their total to 804. The Armadillos are showing a flicker of a heartbeat led by the off season acquisition with two first names who lit up Etihad with a whopping 171 to scrape together 475.
Should rename this match to 'The Spud War'! 2/3's of the way through the match and only 4 of 26 players have been able to top the ton!!! The visiting Barcrawlersare leading14/976/70to theSandgropers 12/863/72. If Southern Cross can get the win we'll be 6 & 2 and looking a shoe in for finals in 2015. It's a simple equation...Hurley, Ryder & Stringer need to outscore Cooney by 114 points. The averages say it's a certainty, but with the low scores rucks are pumping out and the way Stringer can score 80 or 40, this onecould go down to the wire!!!

Another home win chalked up by the Prospectors, beating the visiting Korumburra Blowflys 1326 / 88.4 to 1214 / 80.9 After the Blowflys shot out of the blocks, the Prospectors spent the rest of the match reeling them in, before overtaking them at the very end, and winning by 112 points. Selection issues hampered both teams, with team lineups costing approximately 50 points apiece. There were also some poor showings onfield for both sides, with Tory Dickson crashing back to earth after last week, with only 48 points to his name this week, while the visiting Steven Motlop stank it up, scoring a lowly 26 points. As Prospectors coach, I can say that its much better to be getting selections wrong than it is trying to scrounge together a team of unfit and injured players. The big matchup in the middle of the ground, between home-town hero Mummy and blow-in Goldy turned into a one-horse race. Goldy was completely blown away by the big Mummy, scoring a paltry 44 points, to be demolished by 78 points in Mummy's 122-point outing! That also breaks Goldy's undefeated run in the Giant Tap, and brings Mummy to within 1 win of the lead again. Around the ground it was the running machine Mark Blicavs who tap scored and top scored for the Blowflys, with 134 points to his name to lead all-comers. Next up was the retiring fireman Kane Cornes, with 124 points, who went out showing that he's still on fire! King Island remain undefeated after running out comfortable winners at Christmas Island 1301-1132. Coach Tylo's golden touch continues, bringing in debutant Jordie Murdoch who repaid the faith with a lazy 152 and 3 BAFFU votes. Coach Damo's far less than golden touch also continued, with debutant Trent Dumont treating him like a taxi driver with a terrible 25 and worst on ground performance.
Final Score: Eden Whalers 1095, Gisborne Grenades 1338 After winning 3 in a row, the Whalers now face a 2nd consecutive loss to an in-form Gisborne. While the midfield was dominant for the Whalers (Murphy 95, Jones 113, Miles 121, Griffen 120), the Grenades still did better with 6 topping the 100. Lake didn't do well scoring 43 but he tagged Pav out of the game, keeping him to a measly 26 points. Jack Riewoldt starred with 4 goals and 146 points while Neale continued his run of form with 141. In the ruck, Leuenberger couldn't get near Maric being beaten 125 to 32. Gisborne's 3rd win in a row sees them move up to 5th while the Whalers are 12th... with still a bit of work to do. About time I posted this....Southern Cross Sandgropers v Banchang Barcrawlers, Round 8 review; In what promised to be a tight match with both sides only just able to field 15 players, this one turned out to be a Spud War. Things started promisingly for the visiting Barcrawlers with Joey & McLovin tonning up & ex Sandgroper Docherty showing his old club what they were missing with a respectable 84. Midfielders Shuey & Gaff posted their usual scores for the home side to try and keep them in the match but a green vest for Acres and a pitiful 34 saw Southern Cross trailing by 80 points, this is when things started to get ugly! A green vest for the Barcrawlers Cunningham saw him post a huge 19 points (Acres doesn't look so bad anymore) and after his Giant Tap heroics ofa couple of weeks ago Pyke delivered a huge 22 points, a 42 for Leslie and 51 for the normally reliable Suckling left the door open for the Sandgropers. Charlie Cameron did his best to slam it shut with a score of 27, team mates Hoskin-Elliot & Kennedy didn't fare much better both finishing with sub 50 scores. Forwards Rioli & Swan justified their recruitment with both of them pushing the team forward with 90+ scores each. With the game on the line Walters & Cooney stepped up for the visitors trying their hardest to drag their team across the line but big scores from Fyfe & Hurley saw the home team win by a measly 29 points.Banchang will be disappointed they didn't win, Southern Cross were ripe for the picking, the Sandgropers however are delighted to bank the 4 points when it looked like all they'd end up with was a packet of chips. A slow start for the Grenades and Grundy's late out have been a part of the horrible start for GISBORNE. Meanwhile, Patrick Cripps continues to show that he can score well even in the worst team in the comp, pumping out a more than solid 91 Grenades 77/2/33.5 Cudas 91/1/91
Midway through the 2nd quarter at the Eden Sporting Complex and Eden Whalers are leading 329/4/82.25 to Pearcedale 580/8/72.5 Hale has returned to form scoring 82, being beaten by 1 point by Lobbe. Gibson has starred for the Panthers scoring 119 whereas his fellow defenders have struggled with Kolodjashnij and Howe scoring 43 and 25 respectively. The Panthers fielding only 14 will disadvantage them however, but they've overcame that so far... how much longer will luck hold out?
At half time a travel weary Crocs (]631/9/70.1)are struggling to keep pace with the visiting Blowflies (504/5/100.8). Gunston and Everitt have managed 3 figure scores however, young Jack Martin hasn't helped the team effort with a measley 5 points.
