Southern Cross Sandgropers 1322 defeated Serengeti Buffalos 1080 Continuing with their encouraging return to form, the Sandgropers buried the Buffalos at Groper Park to take their season ledger to 7 & 6. A best on ground return from injury for Mitch Duncan (123) set the tone and with 5 of his team mates also tonning up the result was never really in doubt. The Buffalos were ably led by Patrick Dangerfield (121) however there was little to no suport. For the home side Hurley continued his commanding season in defence with a 120 point game followed closely by Cyril's deliiiicioussssss 117, there was even a return to form for big man Paddy Ryder playing exclusively in the forward line and bringing home 101 points. Conversely only 3 players returned sub 60 point scores for the home side, the magnitude of the loss of midseason recruit Jeremy McGovern should hopefully be offset by finger removed from arse Chris Yarranafter hemanaged 132 points in the ressies. The bulls really struggled at the top end with only3 players tonning up, apart from Dangerfield it was left to young guns Oxley (118) and Dunstan (100) to try and drag the team across the line. However 6 playerscontributing 60 points or less eachmade this a no contest. The Sandgroperstook the Giant Tap votes with Tom Campbell (74) playing his first match of the season and knocking over double POOYA winner Billy Longer (53). The season looks lost for Serengetti with the silver lining being the number 1 pick in the draft, for Southern Cross however, if we can keep our best players on the park, narrow the margin between our best & worst, takeit one week at a time and focus on what we can do, a maiden finals appearance could still be a real possibility. Full time at the Eden Sporting Complex and after trailing in the first half, the Whalers finished strongly with a 1370 to 1257 win over the persistent Blowflies. The Gold Standard may have got the highest score for the ground but the dominant effort of the Whalers side got the job done making it their 3rd win in a row and 2nd win in a row without a BAFFU vote. The Midfield excelled winning 378-239, almost covering the ruck difference, and the solid effort in the forward line secured victory with Boomer returning to form with a team-high 118. And while Korumburra played well, they just couldn't do enough this week. I have to agree with those voting for Cow Bay for number 1 pick, especially after this last match. Gisborne 1270 defeated Cow Bay 736 It was ugly, to say the least. The lowest score ever recorded in ORFFU history against a team with 6 tons and an 18. The win couldn't have come at a better time for Gisborne, hopefully knocking the players back into form after a streak of losses. For Cow Bay, a bad season keeps on getting worse. 736 points is bad, and the only real bright spot is that only half of the Cow Bay squad was available for selection. The Crocs have been cruelled by these selections all year. Paparone and Gunston stood out for the Crocs, the only 2 to pass the magical triple figure barrier. The midfield brigade for the Grenades combined for 428 points, and when combined with the forward line score (368) defeats the Crocs. Such is the way for Cow Bay at the moment. I can't even report on any votes, with all the BAFFU votes going to Gisborne and Cow Bay not putting up a ruckmen for the big tap. Paparone is possibly worthy of a POOYA nomination, and given he scored more than 1/7 of the teams score would be a deserving winner. The contrast is stark in the future for both clubs. The immediate future for the Crocs is bleak - the likelihood of less than 3 wins in a season and a wooden spoon. Further into the future, the young players could turn into stars for Cow Bay, but unfortunately it appears as though this isn't the year. For Gisborne, a 7-6 win/loss ratio puts them just outside the 8. They will be attempting to make the 8 this year, and a sign of things to come is the young midfield firing. BAFFU 3. Late report from Dinosaur Park but the news is unchanged with an away win for the Ararat Armadillos extending their unbeaten run. The Prairie Dogs were out to an early lead but were gradually pulled back by Ararat with outstandingperformances by Dalhaus andWingard helping them over the line. The home side's stars were Ward and Spurr but it was not enough to inspire the rest of the team. It was a greatcontest but the Armadillosprevailed. Cows Bay Crocs 775 def by Ararat Armadillos 1371 17th placed Cow Bay hosted 2nd placed Ararat at The Swamp. To help lighten the inevitable, locals hosted a night out before the game to numb the pain of a certain loss after discovering that only 11 players will be fit for the clash. The final scoreline was a 596 point loss for Cow Bay. Not many positives were taken from the game. Gunston's 165 earned him 3 BAFFU votes as he helped cover the loss of Cam McCarthy but he couldn't do the lifting of 3 players with Tom Boyd's absence felt in the forward line. DeGoey's 75 was a positive in the midfield and although his 46 didn't do much to the score line, Zak Jones' effort was pleasing. For Ararat, there were winners all over the field. Hibberd's 90 led the defensive line, Treloar's 132 led the mids, Gawn's 110 was superb in the ruck and Wingard led the way up forward with 105. The only real let downs for the visitors were the efforts of Lumumba (63), early season high flyer Tom Mcdonald (63), new recruit Luke Mcdonald (64) and Adam Tomlinson (67). All other Armadillos were able to score at least 75. BAFFU Votes: 3 - Gunston 165 (Cow Bay); 2 - Treloar 132 (Ararat); 1 - Cross 111 (Ararat)

Cheers Holky, loved the trip to Eden. Both of us had enough low scores to turn it into a war of attrition, it was only the premium players that set us apart at the end. Good luck with the rest of the season, I'm hoping to make it 3-0 next year
<strong style='color: #000000; background-color: #ffffff;]Round 17 - Korumburra Blowflys lost to Staghorn Flat Bulls by 205 points (1304 v 1509)[/b] <strong style='color: #000000; background-color: #ffffff;] [/b] Another week another honourable loss to the Blowflys. That's 4 in a row now as we fall to 10th on the ladder. 2015 done and dusted unless we win our final 3 games (all against teams above us on the ladder). A tough hill to climb, even for a Blowfly! Korumburra managed to put up a more than respectable 1304 (enough to beat all but 3 other teams in the league this week!) but still ended upon the rough end of a 200+ point belting at home by a rampaging Staghorn Flat who posted a massive 1509. The changing of the guard at the selection table worked a treat for Korumburra with youngsters Hartung (118) and Turner (101) showing they have what it takes to hold down a regular spot in the squad. Motlop was everywhere (144) and Mr. Todd (127) managed to hold out a staunch Big Bollocks McEvoy (124) to take down another giant tap battle and stay on top of the table for this prestigious award. Speaking of awards, I believe the Golden Child was leading the BAFFU award going into this round but might've dropped back a little after being stiff to miss out on any action this week. With the Blowflys season rapidly going down the toilet, the great man might hopefully give the loyal fans something to cheer about in the final run home! The ruck line was the only win for Korumburra, albeit by a measly 3 points. The old experienced heads stood up for Staghorn Flat as we were belted on every other line by the likes of Sean Dempster (107) and the return of the prodigal testicle, James Kelly (102) in defense - got a lot of cheapies playing 1 out 1 back... Matthew Boyd (117) rock solid in the guts, Brett Stanton (134) everywhere, Jarryd Roughead (117) dominating up forward. He was ably assisted by young guns Tom Lynch (146) and Lewis Jetta (106) who's spear throwing, 'war dance' celebration rubbed some painful salt into the wounds of the vocal Blowfly faithful. Staghorn Flat simply too good this week. Votes : 3 - Tom Lynch (SFB) 146, 2 - Steven Motlop (KB) 144, 1 - Brett Stanton (SFB) 134 <strong style='color: #000000; background-color: #ffffff;] [/b]
We seem to be missing a lot of match reviews this week, and most weeks actually. Is everyone just really busy, or are people questioning the need for a match summary? I see them as a chance to be funny (ok, some of us might struggle with that bit), and maintain interest in ORFFU and some general discussion points. They don't all have to be elaborate and detailed, just a quick few minutes making a quick few comments would suffice. By all means though, write more if you want, and make it funny, because I enjoy reading them.

I have had quite a few home matches and have been generally pretty good with getting something down on a Sunday night but this weekend home life just got in the way! I do struggle to get all the points together trolling through the match reports on Supercoach trying to find players, and find this task quite labour intensive. I do still like the idea and fully support it.
