With Eden's David Hale not lining up the Crocs had a chance to steal a win but fell 42 points short. Gunston and Ceglar combined for 164 points but it was not enough for a win at Cow Bay Oval. New recruit Miles did well for the Whalers earning himself 1 BAFFU vote BAFFU Votes: 3 Pavlich 2 Rich 1 Miles POOYA Nominee: Paparone's 90 was a surprise considering his average of 51 in 2014. A hard fought match to welcome bryzza's new look Nuytsland Vikings to ORFFU 2015 went the way of a rampaging Korumburra Blowflys. This was anybodys game heading into the big Easter Monday finale, with the Vikings up by 229. The Blowflys final 5 players vs the solitary Mitch Clark for the Vikings proved to be too much on the run home. Karma is swift Mitch but we wish you all the best big fella! The wet sail that was Steve Johnson, Matthew Stokes, Corey Enright, Steven Motlop and Paul Puopolo piled on the points to see Korumburra storm home to a 215 point victory. The future looks bright for the Vikings with the young midfield brigade of Heeney (96) Vandenberg (99) and Viney (91) all shining along with Rampe (98) and Roberton (96) in defense. Nuytsland were stretched by the fact that Grimes, Martin, O'Rourke and MItchell were all named as emergencies this round and didn't manage to get a run. Add this to the hefty injury list of Hanley, Greenwood, Biggs and Petracca along with the potential future contributors in Matt Crouch, Zak Jones and Alex Woodward and its safe to say Korumburra were feeling lucky to have played Nuytsland at this stage of the season. The Blowflys potential for improvement is definitely there too with the likes of Johannisen (103) and Shenton (96) putting their hands up for a spot down back after missing out on a game this week. With Andrew Walker's potential return to the fold in a couple of weeks, all signs point to tough competition for spots in defense this year. I foresee many beverages being consumed by the match committee while nutting out the final defensive unit each week. The superstars Sloane (145) and Johnson (131) excelled this week for Korumburra, although Stevie J's loose bump on Sam MItchell might see him have an enforced rest on the sidelines for a week or 2. This could open up a midfield spot for the impressive rookie Brayshaw (86) who was rock solid in his first 3 quarters of ORFFU football before being subbed and rested. Excitement machine Nakia Cockatoo is also waiting in the wings but might have to show a bit more to earn a gig at the top level after a nervous debut on the big stage. When your 3rd string ruck (Blicavs) scores 99 you have to be feeling good about your depth in a difficult position. Goldstein got the business done for the Blowflys at R1 as usual with an even 100 this week. Motlop (92) showed why there was so many teams chasing him with trade offers this Summer, while the quiet achiever Puopolo was outstanding with a well deserved 103. Shout out to Ben Howlett who started as the sub for the Vikings, got an early gig when David Myers went down in Q1 and managed to pump out a very solid 95.

As Dirk Diggler once remarked, excuse the length... Might have to work on that format - that's not how she looked in the window!

Staghorn Flat v Ararat Both teams had been written off in the preseason as the inaugural grand finalists battled it out in round 1. As a contest it was not as the Bulls surrendered meekly to the reigning premier 1364 to 998 in an embarrassing effort. Ararat had winners on every line while the Bulls midfield had an absolute shocker, compounded by spiritual leader Tom Rockliff going down for 4 - 6 weeks. For the Bulls Roughy (105), Boyd (101) & Bird (93) led the way For the Armadillos Treloar (157) starred ably assisted by McDonald (125) & Wingard (121 those three also took the three votes in this game. The Bulls can only look forward to next week with Birchall & Mackie hopefully overcoming injury to play and Coniglio to avoid the green vest!

Gonna be a close one.... Jack's 126 and Shiels 136 gonna be tough to crack! Bunyips final score 1297 Prairie Dogs Final Score 1128 What a great game first up for these two teams. The Bunyips were well behind until D Pearce and R Gray decided to step up and crack well over the tons. This is going to be a fantastic season if this first round is anything to go by. First scalp goes to the reigning Big Tap winner... well done Sauce. Bump...

Cheers chop, good reading, but not good reading :D Anyone care to give me some advice for next year? I can't seem to take a trick and get a team on the park :( Similar to my SC team, which looks great, but does nothing. Both are looking like being train wrecks going by the start

Well played by the Bunyips, a tight finish in a competitive first game of the season. The new coach will be searching for his first win next week. Go the P Dogs.

</br> Surely Tex gets the 1st week POOYA award.... 177 points! Who has him? King Island Monarchs have Tex so I assume Tylo is quite pleased with his performance, and so he should be. Quite a performance it was too but I'm not sure it's a lay down misere he gets the POOYA Award for Rd1. He played FF in a team that wins by 12 goals, so one would expect that the FF might score well. I'd like to mount a case for my boy, Sam Docherty, who played off a HB flank in a LOSING team and scored 147, beating his previous best score of 110 quite considerably, after averaging only 76 for the entire 2014 season. To me, that is what POOYA is all about. And how about another Barcrawler in Jeremy McGovern, playing down back in only his 14th game of AFL and notching 145. And Adam Treloar was a leading light for Ararat, in the midfield, scoring 157, so maybe he gets a look in as well. Tex just may win the POOYA, but it's not a foregone conclusion. I mean, did he pull one out of his a*se or was that performanceone that we've been waiting for and not all that unexpected. I'm sure all the ORFFU coaches will have their own thoughts on it......

Bump... Unfortunately, the Prairie boys were unable to replicate pre-season form and let the game slip in the last stretch. Well played by the Bunyips, a tight finish in a competitive first game of the season. The new coach will be searching for his first win next week. Go the P Dogs. It aint going to happen, Batfink.. You've got the 2nd longest away trip in ORFFU history to contend with next week. It's a tough week of preparation ahead of you, especially for a 1st time Coach travelling to Thailand. Passports have to be in order, flights organised, Thai Immigration Control to be negotiated at Suvarnabhumi International, King Power Duty -free to get through without being scammed, tuk tuks to get you from the airport to the hotel, diet to be watched carefully, and to top it all off, it's the weekend leading into Thailand's Songkran Festival, so the traffic will be horrendous, and we'll probably get our largest crowd of the season, all cheering against the Prairie Dogs, and most of them suitably under the influence of lao khao (Thai's low cost rice whiskey). That might give you some idea why Tomster said in an earlier post 'my reserves are terrified to fly to Thailand' Welcome to round 2............

Cheers Tyze. You had one of those rounds mate. Mackie pulling out, Rockliff injured, coniglio averaging 101 in NAB and primed for breakout year and he gets the bloody sub vest... just a filthy week for you pal. Unlucky!

Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,321 def Coolgardie (Prospectors) 1,241
The home team got off to a shaky start with elevated Jones up forward being well managed however he did kick 2 goals and Captain Cotchin receiving a heavy tag right from the first bounce only collecting 17 possessions. Too often in the first half the home team missed easy targets, even the classy Gibbs was guilty of some careless turnovers. Overall Gibbs collected 26 possessions and booted 1 for himself.
Newcomer Newton came in and did his best as a substitute ruck but many played off the wing were he nabbed 2 goals in an impressive first game. Another first gamer for the Cuda's was Firrito who was a bit off the pace with only 10 possessions with Frawley and Murphy chipping in with 18 possessions each. Burgoyne controlled the game running off half back in a dazzling display and 88% efficiency.
Cunnington collected 26 possessions however he was let down by his efficiency. Making up for this Hannebery ran all day through the centre picking up the same amount of possessions but using to his advantage more often.
As the day wore on the Cuda's took charge around the ground with another new face on home turf Guthrie toughing it out with some heavy work on player and ball. Playing the same brand of footy as he did in the second half of last season Lewis stormed the ground amassing 35 possessions; this guy is an absolute star, what a start for the new inductee into the leadership group.
But where it all happened for the home side was up forward. Bontempelli came out snarling like a wild dog picking up 22 possessions and putting 1 through the sticks and played a vital role across half forward. Likewise for Zorko, he was on fire all day cracking the sherrin though for 6 points. The day however belong to newly elevated rookie Jamie Cripps, this kid took 5 marks and bagged 5 goals 100% on target, you could hear the high fives from a mile away.
What a great start to the season with having a home town win!
The Prospectors reputation preceded them with no rucks coming out to take on big Mumford, so they land on Groote Eylandt brimming with confidence. There was also a familiar face on the field young Jack Watts who was trade to Coolgardie and came out to play one of his best games of his career, responding with a clutch of goals for his new club.
However that performance was it for the visitor's forward line, with Petrie, Westhoff and Dickson well held and underperforming. Dickson did slot through 2 goals for the day.
Jonas, Baguley & Frost at the other end of the paddock tried playing a lock down game but there were unprepared for the local jibs and failed poorly. The only shining light back there was a standout performance from the ever reliable Hooker.
Even with the double team of Mumford with 36 hit outs and Martin with 21 hit outs couldn't stop the home team running through the middle.
There were some nuggets for the Prospectors in the first game of season 2015 and they were Kennedy of the JP kind who smashed out 30 possessions but efficiency let him down on the day. Wine's gave tough love and scored solidly on the hard island paddock grabbing 27 possessions and kicking 2 goals. Leading the way for the visitors was Ebert, this guy was a ball magnet in collecting 34 possessions in the hostile environment. Unfortunately he also picked a report for tripping. It well most probably be a fine dished up but he'll be sweating on it.
It was a long way to come for no points but it was a tough struggle, no shame in that.

Nice work YAD. Its a shame really, I thought my stingy defence would be enough, but your bloody forwards just kept kicking goals.

The stats for Rd1 are now up, so teams can be removed from 'Matchday'. However the Ladder needs adjusting as just about all 'against' scores are over 2000, which is incorrect, and itaffects the %. And Gisborne is shown as scoring 895 when their actual score was 969, which can be explained by the fact that Tomster notified a team change of Ambrose for Billings, prior to lockdown, but he didn't adjust his team on tsLeagues and Ambrose scored 74.

Good pick up with my score chop, will fix that now. Unfortunately I can't do anything about the points against, so will leave it. Edit: Fixed my team's issue, just needs the ladder script to be rerun. The other leagues (ORFFL/ORFFA) also have the points against at 2000+, I have told walesy about it but won't pester him with that as he will have to change anyway for his comp.

Normally its away team first, but since their both on your team mate, I think you can just take your pick (who deserves it most? or who needs the votes because they might actually be there-abouts come years end?)
