Belated Nugget Cup 2 match review: This was supposed to be the match whereSouthern Crossdrew a line in the sand and staked their claim for a place in this years finals series. Against a weakened Coolgardie team the Sandgropers could smell blood, that was of course until teams were named on Thursday night. Captain Nat Fyfe needed a week off after Sam Mitchell's unsociable act of a couple of weeks ago and to add further disarray defender Michael Hurley needed some jabs for his knee and it was decided to leave him out in case there were any WADA reps at the game. With McGovern still recovering from the 'Southern Cross Curse' the defence went in undermanned and had Neal-Bullen pinch hit out of position at the back. The visitors were able to field a full team but were still short young gun O'Meara and the man mountain 'Mummy', still some able replacements in Miller & Martin would have been expected to keep the score ticking over. The home team struggled to a total of 1175 with well below average scores from Taylor (65), Yarran (52), Neal-Bullen (oop 25), Duncan (56) and Cameron (52). The S's (Swan, Swallow & Stringer) managed to ton up andwith scores over 80 from Garland, Sheed, Rioli, Bartel, Ryder and Vandenberg the home team were at least hopeful of a competitive showing. The Prospectors started solidly, however an early injury to contested tyro Wines (21) and an oop appearance from Wright (31) kept the home team in the game. Hutchings & Dickson had little influence on thematch and with less injuries to the squad would probably find themselves missing out next week. Just as the home fans started to get excited the big guns went BANG! Martin smashed Campbell in the giant tap contest scoring 135 to 74, Westhoff ran run up forward with 132 and the much maligned Jack Watts even managed to crack 108, further tons from 'the dish' (103) and the coaches namesake JPK (110) saw the away side come away with a narrow 48 point win. Victory sees Coolgardie retain the Nugget Cup and remain undefeated against their gold fields rivals. I'm sure fans of both teams are hopeful for a match between 2 fully fit sides next season in Nugget Cup 3, I'd say the coached share their sentiments. The loss severely dented the Sandgropers hopes of a maiden finals appearance as well as denting the Prospectors hopes of a high draft choice, still it ended up being an entertaining match that went down to the wire. Bring on round 19! BAFFU: 3 votes Stefan Martin (CP) 2 votesDane Swan (SCS) 1 Vote Josh P Kennedy (CP)

At 3/9th time in the match between Coolgardie and Ararat, its the visitors with a slender lead: Armadillos 333 / 4 / 83.3 Prospectors 274 / 3 / 91.3 ...and I think thats about as close as I'm going to get to winning this game!

At 6/9th of the way through the game between Coolgardie and Ararat, its the home side in the lead on points, but expecting to get completely run over from here. Coolgardie 642 / 9 / 71.3 Ararat 537 / 7 / 76.7 Pretty average by both sides. An OOP 106 from Hutchings wasted a big chunk of points for the Prospectors, which hurts even more with Glenn's donut. For the visitors a 12 from ruckman Wood put up a huge challenge in the Giant Tap! To come there's: Hooker, Baguley, M Jones, Petrie, Watts, and Griffin up against Hibberd, T McDonald, L McDonald, Vince, Steven, Treloar, Gawn, and Cross. Its going to take a miracle, but we'll all be cheering the Prospectors on (surely an Ararat loss benefits a couple of you guys, so throw your support my way please!)

Progress score from The Stadium sees the Barcrawlers leading the Crocs by 10/794 to 9/532. Selwood 145, Blair 112 and Gaff 106 are the main contributors for the home team, while the understrength visitors have Rich 92, Talia 87 and Everitt 80 doing their best for the Crocs. Players still to come Montagna Newnes Walters Cooney and Gibson for Banchang and McKenzie Acres Scully Cameron Merrett and Patton for Cow Bay. A very tough ask for the visitors to get the chocolates here.

With finals on the line the Sandgropers are throwing the kitchen sink at the Panthers and are currently leading 960/11/87 to 787/10/79. A huge game from Swan and tons from Rioli, Duncan and Bartel hold the home team in good stead. Caddy & Brodie Smith have held up their end of the deal but it'll take a big effort from Pearcedale from here. The remaining matchups being Garland, Hurley, Swallow & Vandenberg for the home side vs Heath Shaw, Mundy, Devon Smith, Membrey & Mav Weller for the visitors. Can Southern Cross keep their season alive whilst denting Pearcedale's run? All will be revealed tomorrow!

Update from Dinosaur Park with the Christmas Island Smugglers out to a flyer leading the Prairie Dogs. 1076/13/82 to 720/8/90 with the Prairie Dogs history of chocking over the past 2 weeks it will be interesting to see if the players can pull it together and show some cohesion for once.... Go the Prairie Dogs.

Go the Prairie Dogs. The Dogs have started well in the last quarter, score update Prarie Dogs 947/10 trailing the Smugglers 1168/14. Can the fast finishing P Dogs catch the Smugglers or is another choke on the cards....... Go the P Dogs

Still waiting for SC lockout to lift before officially announcing the result, but as predicted, it looks like a comfortable win by the Armadillos over the Prospectors, 1192 to 1112.

It's full time at The Stadium and the Barcrawlers have run out comfortable winners over the visiting Cow Bay Crocs, 1252 -796. The stars for the home side were ever reliable Selwood 145 Montagna 143 Blair 112 Gaff 106 and Newnes 104, all scoring over the tonne. The visitors were not helped in their quest for a 2nd win with 3 players subbed out/in and 1 player (Boyd)not turning up. The best for the Crocs were Rich 92 Talia 87 and Everitt 80. BAFFU VOTES 3. Selwood 145 (BB) 2. Montagna 143 (BB) 1. Blair 112 (BB)

At Dinosaur Park the final score sees the P Dogs victorious over the Smugglers. No choking this week for the P Dogs but it is all academic as they can no longer make the finals but it may have cost the Smugglers a finals berth. Final Scores: Hughenden Prarie Dogs 1353 to Christmas Island Smugglers 1237 Match report to follow.....
