The up and coming Sandgropers visited King Island for a highly anticipated round 1 match up. It was a tight battle early on with neither of the quality midfields able to gain dominance. The Gropers were well led by skipper Fyfe and the new look forward line, including veterans Swan and Bartel, was up and about. Unfortunately for the visitors they were unable to contain the brilliance of Monarch forwards, Walker and Betts, who did as they pleased and proved to be the difference in the match. Ex-Groper Tommy 'the gun' Bell was a late inclusion and showed up his old teammates in a solid first up game for his new club. Votes Walker(177) 3 Betts(154) 2 Bell/Fyfe(115) 1 (I thought it went to the winning player in a tie but might be mistaken)
You may be right Tylo, maybe it did go to the winning team last year.... That's what I get for going off memory and not looking things up.
Hey Coaches, Thanks to all who have completed their match review. Just looking for TTT (Panthers) to post his, should have been done by now. In light of the Buffalo's (home team) not turning up could we have a blurb from ddsaints (Parasites) who perhaps played the local highschool team, cheers.

Best not to look at that game - the Panthers were scarily good - 1304 from really 13 players given Lobbe's late withdrawal and Daisy's shoulder. The Smugglers on the other hand were terrible - 1174, one of their lowest scores in a long time. BAFFU were all Panthers - B.Smith (144), B. Ellis (123), J. Howe (119).
Round 1 match report Pakenham v Serengeti Pakenham were eager to kick off the year with a win and super excited about taking on the Buffalos round 1. The long flight over had the boys pumped on arrival and couldn't wait to get into it. At first we thought the Buffalos were playing a joke on us, we turned up to play but no one else had turned up. We frantically made some phone calls to the head of the FU making sure we were at the right ground. Unfortunately the powers above had delivered the bad news that no game would be played. News quickly spread that we had trouble in Serengeti, the Paky boys decided to get the heck out of there fearing backlash from the angry locals. The Parasites returned to home and played a scratch match against the local work for the dole group. It wasn't much of a match with the opposition basically not doing anything to help tune up the boys for round 2. Good games from Hogan and Jeffy have the starting 15 working hard to maintain their spots
Nice write ups by all All my players have decided they want to play this week - McVeigh, Billings, Grigg and Seedsman all named and no outs yet! Possibly the biggest squad I've ever had available to me
Round 2 ..........Banchang vs Hughenden Preview Rd 2 sees ORFFU's newest team, The Hughenden Prairie Dogs make the daunting trip to Thailand to take on The Banchang Barcrawlers on their home turf. The Barcrawlers are hoping to build on their opening Round 1 win, while Batfink's team will be looking to get their 1st ever win in ORFFU. Both sides look to be evenly matched, although losing Montagna to a knee strain, won't help the Barcrawlers cause. The Prairie Dogs have selected an in-form midfield of Ward, Mitchell, Jack and Shiel, and will look to create most of their opportunities there, so they can provide a good service to their main man, 'Tomahawk' Hawkins, whom they hope can kick them a winning score. For the Barcrawlers to post their 2nd win of the season, their ever reliable defence, led by 'Capt. Courageous' Luke Hodge, will need to repeat their sterling effort of Rd1, where they posted a combined 452 pts, to have any chance of a win. All in all, this match looks like being a beauty......................
Rd2......Qtr time......Banchang vs Hughenden It's qtr time at The Stadium and The Barcrawlers have got off to a flyer, and are leading the Prairie Dogs 2/172/86.0 to 1/57/57.0. Once again, the backstops for the Barcrawlers, Docherty and McGovern, have followed on from Rd1 and posted very good scores.
Early in the match at Groote Eylandt it's the visiting Sandgropers 4/406/101.5 leading the home town Barracudas 2/191/95.5, watch this space.
Half time at Cow Bay sees the Crocs struggling against the Bunyips. Crocs: 480/7/69 Bunyips: 511/5/102
Its a tale of woe here at Ararat with both the Smugglers and the Armadillos competing for who can get a victory with the lowest score. At this stage i'd say its the home team winning the award for lowest score per individual versus their averages. Injuries have have hurt both sides with Tomlinson and Harbrow both being subbed out (not b4 making a sneaky 86 harbrow you *$%&%). In-progress scores sit at 1009 and 928. With 3 each left to play the home team has its nose in front but is as confident as Joel Tippet on Taylor Walker.
Groote Eylandt score update; The home town Barracudas 7/660/94 are holding tight against the visiting Sandgropers 8/655/82. Both teams have some big guns to come, can the visitors make up the deficit and get their first win of the season? Only time will tell,
Rd 2,,,,H/Time Banchang vs Hughenden It's half time at The Stadium and the Prairie Dogs have responded to Batfinks spray at oranges and have taken the lead against the home team, 6/620/103.3 to Banchang's 9/636/70.7. The 2nd qtr saw the Prairie Dogsmidfield take control, with Shiel, Ward and Jack all posting scores over 100, with Shiel following up his 136 in the first round with another brilliant effort of 149. The Barcrawlers haven't been able to reproduce their form from Rd1 and none of their players have tonned up, and face a herculean task in the 2nd half to post their 2nd win.
Staghorn v Coolgardie Its early in the third quarter at Mill Park and its game on. Staghorn 634/7/91 Coolgardie 878/10/88 For the Bulls new recruit Conigliohas dominated ably supported by Boyd, Kelly & Jetta. For Coolgardie JPK, Wines & Mumford lead the way with Dickson chipping with a cameo up forward. All to play for on Sunday
3/4 time at King Island sees the home side with a commanding lead over the visitors from Eden. For the second week in a row a Monarch forward has dominated, this time JJK scoring a 10 goal 178, with ex-Whaler Rance(156) controlling the backline. For the Whalers, Griffen has played a lone hand with 118. Monarchs 13/1262/97 Whalers 12/839/70
Some stage during the match the Panthers have a handy lead over the home team Parasites. Both teams seem to be going through the motions. No real excitement to speak of at all. Pearcedale 12 fa 884 vs Pakenhams 8 fa 589 The dales with a depleted line up have Mundy, Caddy and Gibo to come. Pak have Adcock, Higgins, Beams, Barlow, Jobe, Bellboy and BJ to come. The home crowd are hoping for a barnstorming finsh
Korumburra vs Gisborne In a seemingly lopsided contest, the Grenades are putting up a good tussle. They hold the lead, but have a lower average per player. An interesting by-story is the trade of Wellingham for Lake between the two clubs. Wellingham has 80 points on the board, and for Gisborne to win, lake will at least need to match that Blowflys 982/13/75.5 Enright 65, Dunn 85, Johannisen 62, Shenton 103 Stokes 71, Johnson 62, Sloane 134, Greene 86 Goldstein Wellingham 80, Cloke 55, Z. Clarke 18, Puopolo Cornes 88, Blicavs 73 Grenades 968/12/80.7 Lake, Jaensch 98, Seedsman 38, Hombsch 58 Masten 86, McVeigh 90, Hill 136, Neale 108 Maric 90 Riewoldt 67, Grigg 25, Ambrose, Billings 65 Douglas 107, Christensen EDIT: The Geelong vs Freo game has changed things drastically! With 2 matches to go, or 3 quarter time, Gisborne trail by just 14 points with an extra player left to play. The blowflys threw away a sizeable advantage at the end of the 3rd quarter, as Gisborne came strong. Twin tons from Hill and Neale combined for 244 points, while Enright, Johnson, Stokes, Clarke and Blicavs could only scrape 289 points together! Safe to say I'm getting a bit excited about the possibility of the first win for the year, given there were only 4 wins last year
Still tightout atGroote, a huge game from Fyfe(162) has seen the deficit clawed back and it's game on; Barracudas 10/889/89, Sandgropers 11/958/87.
Frawley subbed out with only 2 points has handed the ascendency to the Sandgropers, deep into the last quarter the visitors lead 1150/13/88 from the home tam 1091/13/84. The Cudas will need Cunnington & Zorko to outscore Swallow & McDonald by 60 points to seal victory. Go Gropers!
Absolute cracker at Mill Park with a Cale Hooker goal in the final minute giving Coolgardie a 10 point win 1290 - 1280. A much improved effort from the Bulls this week however who cares... go those bombers!
