Early in the 4th quarter at Flying Fish Cove Park sees the Prospectors with a slight lead 871/13 (67) to 828/12 (69). In what has to be one of the worst games in FU history, both teams have been in equal parts heavily sub-affected and bloody terrible. Only four players in total have cracked the ton, with the standard of the game highlighted by the fact Hooker's 114 is currently holding down the 3 BAFFU votes. The final stages see Hurn, LeCras and Johnson for the Smugglers attempting to run down the Prospectors' Miller, Dickson and 43 point lead. Really, we're both averaging less than 70 points? Match of the season nomination right here!

They're right up there on 71 ppg..........obviously Songkran festivities have taken their toll this week......not just on the playing ability of Banchang's players but unfortunately on the Thai population as well. These figures are not pretty reading.... BANGKOK: — THE SONGKRAN holiday period saw 364 deaths and 3,559 injuries from 3,373 accidents - higher than last year's figures, the Road Safety Centre said yesterday.

The Monarchs are enjoying their stint of home games to kick off the season and look like treating their loyal supporters to another win. Currently leading the Bunyips, 10/998 to 11/852. Pendles and Lachie Whitfield have battled well for the visitors and Schulz has been the best forward on the ground but the rest of the side have contributed little. For the home team Houli has been impassable at halfback and Scotty Thompson has slotted nicely into Dal Santo's spot with a strong first up performance in the new colours.

Quick update from Mill Park sees the visiting Sandgropers continuing with last weeks good form (568/6/95) leading the home town Bulls (684/8/86). Anything can still happen with both teams having some guns still to impact the match. Your being very diplomatic Eagle, with Boyd out this game is all but over. Swan looks likely to stitch up the 3 votes whilst Coniglio has backed up his BOG last week with another 121 points. Lets hope the Bulls show some fight in the second half Mill Park: More than happy to eat my words as the home team has prevailed in somewhat of an upset to get off the mark in 2015. Bulls 1333 Sandgropers 1215 An untimely injury to Bartel (which evened the keel with Boyds absence) and a sublime performance from Roughead saw the Bulls run away with this one. Votes 3. Roughy (SFB) 2. Swan (SCS) 1. Birchall (SFB)

Sombre mood at Ararat as last years premiers are feeling the effects of the injury bug that seemed to elude them previously. Add a sub-affected score from 2014 rising star winner Taylor, an underwhelming bulldogs effort with Wallis leading the charge with 15 points, EEs Eagles forgetting to turn up versus Freo heavily influencing my diamond in the rough Sheppard and over 100 points left on the bench with the Sweeper being left on the sidelines... Needless to say the board will be hastily convening their first emergency meeting to discuss the coaches decisions and tenure at the club. Take nothing away from my pre-season predicted flag winners though with Jobe and Dayne doing as they should with 130+ scores. Dave Mackay with an early shout out for round 3 POOYA as he's kidding himself with 129. Overall a comfortable 160-odd point win to the Parasites.

A solid 77 point road victory to Banchang in the end over a disappointed Korumburra. The Barcrawlers will paint the town red tonight as they crawl back and forth between every one of the 2 pubs in town, while the Blowflys will quietly drown their sorrows at the clubhouse before a surefire smashing on the training track this week. Another dominant display in the ruck from the Todd was overcome by a ramaging Banchang midfield who set up the win. Korumburra captain, Rory Sloane can hold his head high with another courageous performance while the early injury to Matthew Stokes proved very costly stretching the locals bench rotations. Mark Blicavs continued his steady improvement and stood up all over the ground covering multiple roles in his best game for the Blowflysso far. The ever reliable Corey Enright was a lone wolf down back in the face of the Banchang onslaught. While the delivery was lacking, the performances up forward were solid across the board in a late comeback and the Blowflys can only wonder what could have been if Travis Cloke managed to kick straight.
For the visitors Luke Hodge and Joel Selwood were everywhere in dominant performances, ably supported by Sam Gibson. Michael Walters was magical in the forward half and Jeremy McGovern stood tall in defense, holding off a hometown comeback before a late injury. This game was won and lost in the midfield and Banchang will only get stronger once Leigh Montagna is added back into the mix. For Korumburra Zac Clatke put his hand up for a spot up forward after a strong performance in the 2's while developing youngsters Billy Hartung, Angus Brayshaw and Nakia Cockatoo will fight it out for Matthew Stokes spot in the midfield if his injury forces him to miss next week. BAFFU votes = 3. Luke Hodge 177 (BB) 2. Joel Selwood 154 (BB) 1. Rory Sloane 140 (KB)

Looks like the Barracuda's have survived enough to grab a round 3 win against the Whalers. A post match review will be issued soon.

The train wreck that was the Prospectors/Smugglers game is mercifully over with the home team not losing (there were no winners in this debacle) 1078-1020. Set 193 to win from the final game the Smugglers' veteran recruits Johnson, Hurn and LeCras were solid enough to give Christmas Island their first non-loss of the season. Limited highlights to report - perhaps only Mummy's 61 as what has got to be close to the lowest big tap winning score ever. Both sides will be licking their wounds at training this week. Although the playing groups will be thankful that limited replacements are available to either coach as I'm sure JPK wants to swing the axe as much as I do. BAFFU 3 - C. Hooker 114 (CP) 2 - D. Martin 110 (CIS) 1 - D. Heppell 105 (CIS)

Down in the Crater the Buffaloes were looking to put an interesting start to the season behind them as they hosted the visiting Grendaes from Gisborne. Things started well for the home team with young forward Jamie Elliott teaming with the almost traded Travis Varcoe to top the ton and go alongside solid scores from Luke Dunstan (87) and Billy Longer (65). Unfortunately the much anticipated debut of the Buffaloes 1st round draft pick was a bit of a fizzer with late inclusion Paddy McCartin failing to match it in the big leagues but still showed enough promise to excite fans about what the future might hold and when put up against some low scoring Grenades, Billings 62 & Seedsman 55, hopes were high.
Consistent effort from more youngsters saw Gleeson and Merret post decent enough scores and when they beat their opponents of the day in Casboult and Ambrose the Buffalo faithful were starting to dream of celebrating their first win of the year. With Captain Dangerfield still to add to the account, the enthusiasm of the crowd was starting to flow through to the team but unfortunately once he was well held things took a turn for the worst and the rout was completed by some stunning performances from the GisborneGun Lachie Neale (170) and Stephen Hill (149). Ultimately some promising signs from Buffalo youngsters, while encouraging for the future were not enough on the day with the Grenades running out comfortable winners in the end 1350 - 1041. Birchall (SFB) Two different tales! You'd be hoping the Hawks play the Dogs every week and I'd be hoping WCEwouldn't be playing the Dockers again. Well done on the win, I'm still above you on the ladder though nah, nah, nahnah, nah! ;)

]Cheers wright, fair to say I'm fairly excited about our prospects. Is it too early to call Gisborne premiership favourites? No? Good, because after that performance the Grenades should definitely be causing wrinkles in the faces and grey hair throughout opposition coaches

Crocs WIN! After tasting two hollow victories against opponents who didn't turn up to the game last year, the Crocs have tasted success in a match for the first time in the FU. ]The midfields were evenly matched but the young forward line of Gunston, Martin, Boyd and Cameron led the way, outscoring their opposition forwards by almost 200 points. Garland and Talia held the defence line together and Whitecross showed some promising signs in his return to football after over a year on the sidelines. Lindsay Thomas and Isaac Smith provided some handy depth on Hughenden's interchange bench but it wasn't enough to overcome a young Crocs side hungry for success. BAFFU Votes: 3- Sam Mitchell (Hughenden), 2 - Jack Martin (Cow Bay), 1 - Callan Ward (Hughenden) POOYA Nominee: Scored 107 over the weekend to be the Crocs equal top scoring defender. Averaged 47 across 3 games in 2014 with a top score of 50. [IMG]

Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,208 def Eden (Whalers) 1,128

Going into the match for round 3 the home was a little on edge. Having Frawley out injured and Bontempelli being a late withdrawal the pressure to perform at either end of the ground will be on.

In defensive ever reliable Murphy played again a leading role pulling down 24 possessions and keeping his opponent very quiet on the day. Burgoyne played the lock down role but still managed to collect 17 possessions in a hard slog day at the office. Sutcliff and Firrito under performed picking up 17 and 14 possessions against their opponents which included a switch up in the second half.

Young Patrick Cripps came in and chopped out in ruck and gave it to the Whalers tall timber. He also picked up 22 possessions putting in a solid performance.

The forward line had mixed resuls with Zorko on fire, ripping it up with 2 goals and collecting the pill 27 times. Stanley efficiency with sherrin was high but came away with none between the sticks. Cripps of the Jamie kind was very quiet and was well held all day only managing 10 possessions and Jones late call up struggled however he did managed to boot one from an acute angle.

Lewis cherry picked throughout the game picking up possession after possession and running rings around the visitors. Guthrie cleaned up anything that was left behind adding another 20 possessions to his tally.

The game was the opposite of last week, it was a back and forth affair, either side not giving an inch. However the engine room of the Barracuda's midfield gain momentum and played a starring role and lifted to another level, Captain Cotchin could do no wrong racking up possessions at will and slotting a running goal that was as straight as an arrow. After being locked down last week Hannebery followed the lead of his captain and shinning his own light on a premium level performance. Gibbs and Cunnington put in solid performances getting 18 and 20 possessions each. Gibbs kicking a late goal to secure a hometown win.

The Whalers came looking for redemption in Groote Eylandt after a loss in round 2. However they too had a late omission with Smith being replaced by young Sam Rowe who had a very good hit out collecting 13 possessions and was most probably the visitor's best defencemen on the day. Henderson was up there with 16 possessions but Malceski and Trengrove dropped the ball literally in there poor performance and will certainly be dealt with by the coaching staff at Eden on their return home.

The visitors brought the young ruck Phillips to the top end and was slapped silly in the first quarter and subbed off. Another sub affect candidate was Curnow, was shown the bench in the third quarter after a dismal 8 possession and zero influence on the game. However a beacon of light shone from the young Crisp who enjoyed some great run racking up 23 possessions and a goal, this kid was on fire.

Forwards for the visitors had Harvey, Lynch and Jenkins all kicking a goal each. Harvey pilled on 23 possessions with great efficiency. Lynch collected 20 and switched it up from one end to another but poor effectiveness let him down. Even though Pavlich didn't score a goal he had 18 possessions for the day.

In better news the Whalers midfielders attacked were they could with Murphy and Miles grabbing the pill 30 times and burnt up the turf. Jones had a very good performance smashing through 25 possessions and punting one through for a goal. Griffin kicked one too but struggled with his form all day for his 16 possessions.

For the home team Houli has been impassable at halfback and Scotty Thompson has slotted nicely into Dal Santo's spot with a strong first up performance in the new colours. The Monarchs have certainly set a high standard to aspire to, 1,400+ scores 3 weeks in a row.

Heppell 105 (CIS) Let us never speak of this again.
