The boys in the middle continued to perform; other than Gibbs who put in a woeful game with his 17 touches in which over half of them went to no one at all, very disappointing. Cotchin and Cunnington were terrific collecting 29 & 20 disposals for the day including a goal each. Dan the Man was inspiring with his run and determination on the park racking up 37 possessions cherry picking all day. The forward line improved with Bontempelli and Zorko slotting through 2 goals each backing up the hype over these young guns who were on fire collecting 23 & 22 disposals in a day that seen the pill move quickly from end to end. Another youngster Jake Lloyd put in a sterling effort in the tough conditions with 19 touches and Cripps of the Jamie variety sneaked in with 2 goals and 16 possessions. Lewis flexed his muscles on and off the ball in a fiery clash and was reported at the 24 minute mark of the first quarter for a late and crude round-arm spoil. He did manage put boot to ball and get one through the sticks and collected 29 touches. Guthrie felt the pressure all day and under-performed with only 15 possessions. Finally Nicholls returned to ORFFU for his first game of the season in the Cuda's colours. He had plenty of hit-outs and for the day narrowly had the upper hand on his opposition. The defensive line broke down for the home side. However Murphy stood up to be counted and played with heart in collecting his 24 possessions. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said about Sutcliffe, Firrito & Burgoyme who buckled under pressure and only managed 16, 15 & 11 touches in a game that was there for the taking. Too many missed opportunities on the day in this titanic struggle and allowing a loss on home soil by the smallest of margins hurts the most. The visitors travelled up north with a plan for consistency in round 5. However for the defensive line it again was a mixed bag story. Old man Fisher cranking on the pressure and collecting 20 disposals, Spurr mopping up with 17 possessions but the use of the ball was wanting. Chaplin coming back from injury picked up 16 touches and GHS was more than disappointing even though he came off the snot vest in only posting 3 touches. Through the centre Jack kicked a goal and put together 18 disposals, Ward was on fire with his 23 touches; Mitchell was a ball magnet and did what he wanted including smashing through an important goal and Shiel played with his heart on his sleeve racking up 36 possessions. Kicking the first goal of the day Smith dominated around the packs and staring with 27 touches, Yeo shone as well with his 25 possession. Both coming off the interchange having a major impact on the game with their effective use of the pill. Up forward Green had a substandard game only picking up 13 disposals while Thomas did slot through 2 goals he could only manage 13 possessions. well the liver didnt enjoy that weekend. anyway i return to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Gippsland's Korumburra. A new club record set for most duds scoring 40 with 4 Armadillos being etched into the wall of shame plaque, they were closely followed by a 58 and a 61, while only two blokes managed over 100. Management is taking the stance of 'Take what you can get' with only 15 fit lads making team selection rather simple. Fears are already mounting for this weekend however with Trent McKenzie being publicly ruled out as he joined me at the wedding I was at and drank more than 10 men. One can only be thankful that this weeks match is at Home versus Banchang rather than away!
Should be an interesting match up this week then, insider. The Barcrawlers also only had 2 players score over 100, and one of them was Pyke, so I don't think that'll happen again, as well as 4 players with sub-affected scores. I think the team that can get to 1000 might be the winner.

Down the road in Southern Cross the inaugural Groper Nuyts Cup is underway and so farit's a little more exciting with the home town Sandgropers 3/309/103 leading the visiting Vikings 2/165/83. Mitch Duncan has shown he didn't POOHA last week with a score of 153, almostoutscoring the 2 Vikings on his own.

At 4/9th time in Coolgardie its the visitors out in front - 439 / 5 / 87.8 to 316 / 4 / 79 Both teams have a donut (Macmillan for the Prospectors and Lake for the Grenades). Mummy has been beaten again - going down to Maric, 123 to 99. Standouts sofar have been a pair of forwards - Jack Billings on 143 for the visitors, and Drew Petrie on 131 for the locals.
Fairly tight struggle at Ararat but the home team probably slightly in front. In what has been a somewhat underwhelming encounter, the Barcrawlers are 820 vs the Armadillos 1069 including an inspiring 16 points for an out of position timmy broomhead at ruck. Both teams have 3 players yet to take the field.
In what has easily been the worst Sandgropers performance in their last 10 matches or so,Nuytsland (12/886/74) are putting up a fight leading Southern Cross (11/793/72) in the Groper Nuyts Cup. The Sandgropers however are still in the game with 4 players left versus Nuytsland's 2. Ryder, Gaff, Shuey & Sheed need to outscore Tuohy and Robinson by 94 points to take the match. On a side note if Paddy can score 88 he'll move to 5 & 1 in the Giant Tap.

Griffen got 107 and doesn't make the top 5, Pav kicks 4 goals on the way to 134 while Lynch has found his role with 9 marks and 113 points. For the Parasites, the midfield has shone with Goddard's 135, Watson's 95 and Barlow 116 but apart from that, not much going right as Pakenham learn about Trouble in Paradise.
Go the Grenades! Big score coming up for the Whalers, seems to be multiple teams capable of 1400+ this year. Makes for a good contest!

The fans are being treated to a belter of a contest at Flying Fish Cove Park, where the visiting Bunyips lead the Smugglers 1104/13 (84.9) to 841/10 (84.1). Giant tap champ Jacobs (127) has formed a devastating combo with Armitage (134) in the midfield for Blanchetown. While the Smugglers forward line has lived up to its best in comp billing, with Tippett (143) and Dusty (124) being the standouts. In what should be a grandstand finish the visitors would have to be slight favourites, but this one looks like going down to the wire.
