Right now not looking good. I'm at the game and Baguley is playing average, while Fantasia is doing ok. Surely there's a rule against a zone defence around the bar!!!
It turned out that my unchanged score is higher than my score was with the changes... in that case, can I take the changed score (9 points lower)?
All over at Pakenham the Parasites have run out comfortable winners. A big game for Sidebum 166 lead the home side with a total score of 1367. The away team were solid enough across the park but lacked the bite to really hurt the score board. Kerridge 115 lead the way for the Dogs with a total of 1181
Final score from Groper Park see the home side (14/1238/88.4) victorious over @choppers visiting Barcrawlers (15/1024/68.3). "Carnage at the Cross" match report to follow.
Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,272 def King Island Monarchs 1,180 With four straight victories in hand and following their conquest on home soil against the Sandgropers of Southern Cross the Monarchs landed on Groote Eylandt standing tall, armour shining and muscles flexing. Like 2015 the King Island ruled the regular season pumping out unbeatable scores dominating across the battle field. As they marched to the paddock they could hear the home teams razor sharp teeth moving like scissors ready to cut a swathe through anything that came near them. There was a menacing look from the Barracudas as they stared down the paddock having just been gobbled up by the Bunyips the week before in a Grand Final replay that didn’t go their way. The battle front was bloodied from the start; it wasn’t going to be a pretty sight as some left their skills in the locker room as the ground became full of turds! There were small ones from both sides, the Monarchs Walker, Houli and Bell and the Barracudas it was Lewis, Adcock and the Fox. From there the turds got bigger, even the heartiest troopers dropped a load with crown sized turds from the Monarchs leadership group in Kennedy, Zaka and McIntosh with the crown jewel being laid by Betts dropping from an average of 113 to score a poultry 56. There were some impressive performances to note from the Monarchs Dog Dog, Thompson and Macrae but the stench of a loss so early in the season tasted very bitter in deed for King Island. For the home side the usual suspects were there, Zorko the magnificent, Dan the man, Captain Cotch and Cripps of the Patrick kind. However the show had a new hero in the making, normally playing cameo roles Stan-Ley starred in this storyline. You can still hear the locals chanting his name Stan-Ley, Stan-Ley, Stan-Ley as the Monarchs limped home not so tall, armour tarnished and bodies strained from an under performance not seen since round 16 2014.
Out at The Lagoon, half a Crocs squad and crowd turned up to face the undeafeated Bunyips in Round 5. The locals have decided that the crowd size will reflect the squad size and effort with most staying home to play Monopoly or Connect 4 with the TV on in the background. The Bunyips took their winning streak to 5, winning by 479 points to move to 2nd on the ladder. In a slightly below average performance, just the 2 bunyips hit triple figures: Pendles (131) and off season recruit Ziebell (101). SDT held the back 4 together with 92 points. Laird scored a respectable 79 points and Geary disappointed with 46. Up forward was where the Bunyips had some problems. Ballantyne didn't do much more than turn up (17), Lambert (41) continued his down trend and Mayne and McCarthy (79) weren't that much better than average but played their roles. However, Mitchel (88) and Armitage (99) showed what they were made of and provided some decent run from the middle. On the flip side, Cow Bay took their losing streak to 5. The Crocs had just 9 players pull on the boots this round. Things weren't helped with Hopper named emergency again, Acres getting dropped after just 1 game, Boyd getting injured and Lycett suspended. In some rare positives, Tucker finally made his debut with a respectable 67 down back; DeGoey showed his potential and managed to hit triple figures with a score of 101; Ceglar (77) just took out this week's Big Tap award and Cameron came back from suspension with a solid 88. Next week sees the Bunyips host the 7th placed Parasites while Cow Bay travels out to King Island.
Nuytsland Vikings 1185 vs Eden Whalers 1287 @HOLKY Vikings on a high after a great start to the season we became complacent hosting the Whalers who had yet to win a game. Vikings issues were compounded at the start with Mclean being rested, suddenly recalled then scoring 103. Whalers also had there problems with not lodging there team sheets in time and missed out on Browns 110 points 4 goal haul. Team selection also played on Vikings mind with Petracca making the 25 man squad but has to wait at least one more week to make an impact. Both back lines were evenly matched Rampe 85 and Andrews 90 top scoring. From there Whalers dominated with 4 players toning it up leading the way PSD player Scully 118 finally getting the contested ball and Fasolo 118 putting the nail in the coffin running rampant 22 positions and 4 goals. Curnow 100 Murphy 101 did as they pleased. Vikings had two shining lights Viney 37 positions 23 contested for 144 and Mitchell 113, serious questions need to be asked of Greenwood 70 and Picken 75 major disappointments this season. Why is Picken being played HFF and not HBF ??? 3.Viney 144 2. Scully 118 1. Mitchell 113
Apologies to @tyze1 for the late match review. A Stephen Coniglio led Bulls have come away with a win against the unfancied Gisborne Grenades. Coniglio's 127 running through the guts picking up disposals at will led to him being named best on ground. He was ably supported by Bastinac (102), Swallow (113) and Boyd (121) who has improved following the injury problems for his team. With Rockliff only just coming back from injury, Staghorn Flat have the potential to be challenging at the pointy end if all goes well. The Bulls only had 2 scores under 50, compared to the Grenades 4 under 50, and in the end, it was a 17 to Levi Casboult admirably stepping into the ruck position, a 23 to an injured Christensen and an odd 34 to Billings that cost the Grenades the match. Gisborne's top end players Riewoldt (124), Neale (104) and Masten (103) stood up and tried to drag the team over the line, but couldn't. Koby Stevens continues his impressive start with a 123 and is averaging 88. Gisborne Grenades 1081 defeated by Staghorn Flat 1239 BOG 3. Coniglio (Staghorn Flat) 2. Riewoldt (Gisborne) 1. Stevens (Gisborne)
It's 1/4 time at The Stadium and the visiting Barracudas are leading the local Barcrawlers 2/147 to 2/129.
At 1/9th time in Coolgardie, its the home team 237 / 3 / 79.0 trailing the visiting Ararat Armadillos 311 / 3 / 103.7 The home side have been consistent, with only 5 points separating Macmillan, Petrie, and Dickson. The visitors L McDonald was only just average, while forward "powerhaus" Dahl and Wells have both comfortably topped the ton.
At 3/9th time in Coolgardie, the visiting Armadillos 712 / 8 / 89.0 are breaking further away from the home-town Prospectors 372 / 5 / 74.4 The home side are yet to see a ton, with all scores between 63 and 82 points. The visitors meanwhile have three tons, in Wells, Steven, and Dahlhaus, while ruckman Gawn has put down 96 points in the chase for the giant tap. Can the league-leading Stefan chase him down? Can the Prospectors chase down Ararat? Stay tuned to find out...
Half Time at Eden Sporting Complex and the Whalers lead the Panthers 8/677 (84.63) to 7/579 (82.71). Williams and Scully have excelled with 105 and 107, showing why I drafted them. Heath Shaw has top-scored so far for the Panthers with 143 and Membrey has set Leuey a target of 50 which he should get. Still close though, so will send other updates.
Some putrid individual scores in a tight affair at Mill Park, 2 late outs and a f up at selection hurting the Bulls 3/4 Time Bulls 881 / 11 / 80 Vikings 738 / 9 / 82
In a low scoring game at The Stadium, the Barcrawlers(9/719) are leading Groote Eyelandt (9/549) by 170 pts. The Barracudas have not been helped at all when their number one ruck Rhys Stanley came down with gastro after a Thai curry he had at the welcome breakfast put on for the visitors, and could not take part in the game, and Frawley(36) copped a head knock rendering his contribution un-satisfactory. Only Selwood and Walters, both Banchang, have managed to tonne up at this stage. Although in a coaching masterstroke, Banchang named Impey in the backline but threw him up forward to take advantage of a concussed Frawley and he responded with 3 goals in his 90.
At 6/9th time in Coolgardie its tightening up between the Prospectors 786 / 10 / 78.6 and the Armadillos 841 / 10 / 84.1 The Prospectors still don't have a score over 100, which is really hampering progress, but everyone appears to be pretty-much pulling their weight, with scores ranging from 63 to 93. For the boys from Ararat its a different tale, with the same three standout tons, and then the Melbourne pairing of T McDonald and H Lumumba scoring 58 and 50 respectively, while midfielder I Smith has been an absolute disappointment for coach Insider, with a measly 41 points! Still to come its Fantasia, Baguley, Kennedy, Martin, and Wright for the home side, up against Rich, Treloar, Broomhead, Gibbs, and Parish for the visitors. With only 55 points in it, and the inconsistent nature of some of the players yet to take the field, anything could happen in this match.
Well, the homeside Bunyips have failed to turn up this week with only two players cracking over the tonne. On the other side of the fence, the Parasites have brought their A game to Blanchetown. With Ablett 102, Barlow 134, Reiwoldt 137 and Hogan's 139, its going to take a miracle from Pendles (400+) for the home side to even get close!
Late in the match, a much improved effort from home team Gisborne 1100/13/84.6 has resulted in a strong lead of 207 points over the more fancied Southern Cross Sandgropers, who sit at 893/12/74.4. The Grenades look set for their second win of the season. Two factors have contributed to this: Gisborne being above average and Southern Cross being below their average. The game could still have a bit of life if either of McGovern or Darling goes 150+, and the way WCE are playing it is looking a possibility for their whole team to be 150+
In the end it wasn't really close in Coolgardie, with the home side failing to have a single player top the ton, and Baguley calling in sick on Sunday morning (anyone know what actually happened to him? Named on Friday, and then I see on Sunday morning he's dropped due to injury!). The Armadillos on the other hand had stars all over the field, but also more than their fair share of duds! Finals Scores: Coolgardie 1,111 / 15 / 74.1 defeated by Ararat 1,287 / 15 / 85.8 by 176 points. Notable efforts by the Prospectors include: Notable efforts by the Armadillos include: Bryce Gibbs on 130 (three votes), Daniel Wells on 122 (two votes), Adam Treloar on 120 (one vote), Jack Steven on 117, Luke Dahlhaus on 113, and Daniel Rich on 103. Terrible performers include Baguley (CP, 0), Broomhead (AA, 28), Smith (AA, 41), Lumumba (AA, 50), and Fantasia (CP, 54). Big Stefan has taken his first hit in the Giant Tap, going down to Melbourne Armadillos ruckman Max(imum) Gawn by 15 points, 96 to 81. Up next week, the Prospectors travel to Korumburra to take on the Blowflys, while the Armadillos are back in Ararat, welcoming the Serengeti Buffalos. Good luck to all teams.
The Vikings have run away form the Bulls in the last quarter to record a comfortable 190 point win in a game which was in the balance at three quarter time. Viney, Hanley, Shuey, Mitchell all tonned up as a dominate midfield swung this battle late with Robinson BOG across half forward. For the Bulls Bruce over Lobb hurt as did 2 late outs in Mackie and Griffen as emergencies Jetta and Buntine were miserable scoring 74 points between them. The consistency across the board of the Vikings got them the points this week. The Bulls welcomed Rocky back to some form in hopefully a sign of things to come, whilst McEvoy 95 got him the chocolates against Grundy. The Bulls now have the second worst FU defence conceeding 1278 ppg. The attack is ranked 6th but clearly we are playing teams in to form. This week Pearcedale will be looking at going large in a game the Bulls need to win to stay close to the 8. For the Vikings they will look to cement their place in the 8 against Southern Cross who dropped the ball against Gisborne this week.
