Final Score at the Eden Sporting Complex and Pearcedale Panthers won 1366 to 1198... The Whalers played well, getting good scores for the day but the Panthers won where it counted with their big stars shining (which is what they do). On the bright side, Leuenberger has equalled the club record for most ruck wins in a year and of the 3 draftees I had on the field, 2 were in our best 3 on ground. The Panthers stay in touch with the top 4 while we stay as one of the best sides to be 1-5. Full Time at The Stadium and The Barcrawlers 1181 have managed to hold on to defeat the injury-ravaged Barracudas 1055. After losing their only Ruckman, Stanley to a dodgy Thai curry and Frawley getting knocked senseless by his own player, things got decidedly worse for the visitors after half-time, when star midfielder Patrick Cripps failed to take the field, although his replacement Cam Guthrie scored a well needed 97, coming off the bench, and then the Barracudas No1. draft pick in the PSD, Jacob Weitering went down with a shoulder injury and only 23pts against his name. With Laidler 89, Tuohy 87 and Docherty 79 combining well in defence, and Cooney finally showing some form off the Interchange, with 109, Banchang managed to see out the win, even though Hannebery 136 and Zorko 110 tried their hardest to bridge the gap. BOG: 3. Selwood 138 (Banchang) 2. Hannebery 136 (Groote Eyelandt) 1. Walters 116 (Banchang) Next up: Banchang (8th) are away to Cow Bay (18th) while Groote Eyelandt (7th) host Gisborne.(14th)
Great write up @choppers Captain Cotch played with a fractured cheekbone as well, just went under the knife & will be out for a couple of weeks at least.
Well as expected, the Parasites came to play and play they did! With wins all over the park (except Big Tap) the home side was never really in the race. With Packies Forward line absolutely crushing their opposition, they would have to be the favourites on their day! Thanks Marty. I got lucky this week having all 4 of my forwards performing at the same time. Rarely happens. And Dempsey scoring big is just silly, think I had one of those weeks. I highly doubt I'll see those scores again. Great match mate. Thanks for the reports. Until next time
Coming off the back of two horrible performances the Buff were keen to give their loyal home fans something exciting to take home from The Crater as they came up against fellow 2016 strugglers Christmas Island. Things got off to a great start with young ruckmen Tom Hickey (112) continuing his solid season and sneaky Big Tap run taking another scalp as he completely outshone Matthew Kruezer (76) to give the young Buffaloes midielders every chance.Signs only improved when Captain Dangerfield (132) lead his fleet of improving midfield teammates (Polec 103, Ellis 95) against an underperforming Smugglers midfield (Hodge 61, Tyson ,76) but in a sign of things to come when back up ruckmen Billy Longer got too scared to come off the bench and face opposing back up Ivan Maric things went downhill for the home town boys. Pittard (100) tried valiantly in defence but was overwhelmed by an impressive Smugglers forward line that featured the returning Deledio (89) and a return to form for Martin (127) and LeCras (119). He wasn't helped by the fact that James Aish was persuaded to leave the game early by the scared Billy Longer as he to did not take the field. When the always drink-ready Brandon Matera also left to turn the drinking duo into a trio, the game was effectively over despite the undermanned Serengeti forward line breaking even with the backline of the Smugglers who we can only guess lost interest playing against so few opponents. Christmas Island eventually posting their first win of the season defeating Serengeti 1208 - 1079. Another loss in the Serengeti L column with the players not the only ones to take the blame with the coach reportedly furious with team management after watching a fit and healthy Nick Haynes run around for the reserves when he had so few players willing to front the Smugglers. Still it was an improved performance from the young Buffaloes who will need to improve out of their skins as they travel to the graveyard that is Ararat in season 2016 while the Smugglers were able to notch up their first win of the season and will look to continue on their winning ways next week as they come up against another struggling team of 2016 in the Whalers. In the closest match of the round, the Gisborne Grenades have taken the spoils over the Southern Cross Sandgropers in front of a home crowd hungry for success, winning by 64 points 1158 to 1094. Both teams can take positives from the match. For coach @eagle_eyed a first win of the Big Tap for Jordan Roughead was probably a surprise, but also a deserving one (the ruck scores were sub-par from both teams, but that doesn't matter). Lachie Hunter put in a huge 154 and did all he could to carry the Gropers to victory, but no other tons were present. A solid debut for Connor Blakely will aid Southern Cross in years to come, and a 97 from Prestia and 98 from Duncan show signs of those two stars returning to previous form. Unfortunately for the Sandgropers, in the end it was a lack of scores up at the pointy end that has cost them the match, and they will definitely be ruing it as one that should have been won. Gisborne coach @Tomster (yes I'm that cool I tag myself in my own posts) is extremely pleased with the effort from the team, and from all reports is expecting an unbeaten run until the end of the season. Neale and Hill led the way in the midfield scoring 110 and 108 respectively with young gun Billings tagging along behind on 103. A surprising 95 from Hombsch in defence is encouraging, as is an 81 from Jack Steele. Both players have the potential, now just need to use it. Gresham got back on the park, and with McVeigh down on form and the lack of a ruckmen the Grenades should feel that improvement is still possible. Southern Cross head on the road to Nuytsland next week in what should be a tough challenge for the Sandgropers, who sit 2 and 4 in 13th place. Gisborne are one behind, also 2 and 4 in 14th place, and are preparing to head into Barracuda heartland. The coach has told them to never step backward, despite the potential intimidating tactics and presence used by Groote Eylandt players.
Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,261 def Korumburra Blowflys 1,027 On the banks of the Flinders river they gathered for a dinosaur tussle between the 11th and 12th ranked teams. Fear rippled through the town when Goldy emerged like a Muttaburrasaurus. The Blowflys have come to rely on the Gold member but it just wasn’t his day as he fumbled and tumbled around all day for 49. The midfield in Motlop (133), Greene (115), Sloane (106) & Blicavs (99) tried as they may racking up a plethora of goals and Johnson (124) playing a loan hand up forward bagging 5 couldn’t inspire the rest of the gang. Wright played on with an ankle injury, Turner (11) went off in the first quarter with a hammy and Hartung (0) couldn’t even be bothered getting out of bed. Defensively the Blowfly couldn’t take a trick with some very poor performances. The Prairie Dogs needed something special and they got it from Hawkins (140) bagging 4, there was 4 more from Waite (105) and the dynamic duo of Ward (132) and Shiel (114) run riot on the dry hard turf they call home. Yeo chucked a sicky with tonsillitis so Chaplin got the call up. Fisher (91) was strong all day in defence and Graham (101) bolted from the interchange bench with plenty of touches to seal a victory. After a terrible performance last week against the reigning premiers, the Monarchs returned home to face a young under-manned Crocs outfit. The visitors managed to field a season high 13 players to give them some hope against the home side who also played 1 short. However once the match began the difference in experience between the 2 sides quickly showed. The Monarchs were led by a dominant NicNat in the ruck and although there were improved performances from Bartel, Macrae and skipper Boak, it was far from a consistent effort. For the Crocs, young Acres showed his potential and Lycett was good coming on late off the bench but the backline was virtually non-existent. The Crocs have started nicely this round but it's going to be a tough battle with 12 players suiting up for the home side vs 14 for the visitors. 1/9th of the way through and the scores are: Crocs 184/2/92 Barcrawlers 0/0/0
The Smugglers' annus horribilis continues at Flying Fish Cove Park, where they are being put to the sword by @HOLKY's Whalers. The scoreboard attendants have gone home for the night, but make no mistake this one is all over. Full update to follow once this coach has regained sanity.
@bryzza - It's a tight match out at Nuytsland, with the visiting Sandgropers making their way to the bar on 15/1172/78.2 leaving the home side out on the park with 11/831/75.5. If Robinson & Hanley go large it'll be another win in what has been a great start to the season for the Vikings.
Just arrived back in Australia, will consult the assistant coach and provide a score update from the Dino Dome shortly. A quick scan of player performances to date suggests the home side should be in front.
It appears to be a bit of a stinker out at Paky this week. Both teams struggling to put any points on the board which leaves the contest close. Pakenham 984 with Gilby, Roo, Beams and Newnes still to play King Island 852 with Boak, Bell, Broadbent and Dal Santo still to play The home team with its nose in front with not a lot to come for the visitors
A season high for Vlastuin started the visiting Buffalo's off well and Dangerfield did what Dangerfield does, however the Collingwood contingent stunk it up and Matera didn't get on the park. It leaves Serengeti with 609 and Jasper Pittard, Cameron O'Shea, Luke Dunstan, Jared Polec, Tom Hickey, and Charlie Dixon to play. The home team is building nicely with off season trade target Bryclet Gibbs shining. Despite Shane Edwards and Tom Mcdonald having topsy turvy seasons and not performing this week, the Dillos have 832 with Rich, McDonald, Steven, Smith, Wells, and Wingard left to play.
From the paddock the Cudas are in front at the moment 1,055/12 87.9 to the visitors Grenades 795/11 72.3.
Dino Dome it's a close rumble with the home side in front on 1,012/13 77.8 to the visiting Bunyips on 782/10 78.2.
