No Mumford, Selwood or Hawkins this week from the side that played last week. Returning Danger can only cover for so much.

Kinda surprised the Chooks weren't picked by anyone. Two wins only since the bye.

Possibly because nobody in their right mind picks chooks. You pluck them

Agree CR, I was quite surprised that Fitzy did not opt for the chooks. For the record, you were second on my list ....:). But I just could not pass the Cods, which will probably end up to be famous last words. Have a few selection decisions this week and hope to get them right.

I think Fitzy thinks (knows) he should beat anyone anyway.

Agree with you completely, I thought I was going to be playing Fitzy, I would have ranked them the same as you.

Have been drifting in and out this season, becomes more of a grind when your own side is not preforming how you would like. However, just writing the round 20 review has me interested in how it will play out over the next few weeks.

Been a great season once again and looking forward to improving my squad in the PSD.

Good luck to all in finals :)

Paddy will crank it up this week after lowering his colours to Sauce and no Grundy to contend with.

Cradle Mountain Devils Finals week 1 team

    In: W Hoskin-Elliot
    Out: L Shiels (omitted)

    Def: M Hurley, Z Jones, J Lever, N Vlastuin (S Gilbert)
    Mid: D Zorko, D Heppell, J Steele,D Zaharakis (L Shiels)
    Ruc: J Roughead
    Fwd: T Nankervis, T Lynch, W Hoskin-Elliot, T Membrey (J Gresham)
    Inter: S Grigg, J Redden (J Hopper)

For the Devils final against the Misfits an ex-Misfit in Will Hoskin-Elliot returns after being rested last week and midfielder Liam Shiels has been omitted after a lengthy discussion at the final match committee meeting. WHE was instrumental in the Misfits defeating the Devils in their Round 6 game, scoring 125 points to earn four Les W Medal votes with Devils captain Scott Pendlebury being best afield. Pendlebury is the Devils only automatic selection who is unavailable for this weekend’s final, being sidelined for the rest of the season with a finger injury. Cradle Mountain have the full complement of four emergencies compared to only two for Marble Bar with one of the Misfits on the sidelines being ex-Devil Devon Smith who is out with a knee injury.

It has been three years since the Devils played their first and only final which started and ended in disappointing fashion with the club’s captain and best player – Scott Pendlebury injuring his quad in the warm-up and being a late withdrawal, resulting in his team playing a man short. The undermanned Devils could only manage 1,116 and were destroyed by ORFFA powerhouse the Foul Bay Chickens who scored 1,436. Five Devils scored at least 90 in that game and are all in the Cradle Mountain side this weekend being Zorko (162), Heppell (119), Zaharakis (97), Vlastuin (92) and Hurley (90). All-up eight Devils from that final against the Chickens have been named in the Devils 19 man squad for the club’s second final against the Misfits, these players are in bold in the team above and are comprised of six players in the 15 man team being the five players named previously and Shaun Grigg, two players from the 2014 final have been names as emergencies – Sam Gilbert and Liam Shiels.

In Round 6 this season the undefeated Devils were the hunted and the Misfits successful hunters recording a thrilling upset 26 point victory. Since their Round 6 encounter the Misfits have performed at a higher standard than the Devils and only had three losses for the entire season – half as many as the Devils. So now for the Misfits first ever final they are filling the role of the hunted with the Devils cast as the hunter.

After a best afield performance last week Jack Steele has been assigned a midfield run-with role on Misfits captain Callan Ward who returned to his best in the last six games of the season to score at least 85 in every game including four tons. Both clubs have named two ruck eligible players with Paddy Ryder and former Devil Billy Longer to share the Misfits ruck duties opposed to Devils duo Nankervis and Roughead. The Misfits form against teams that have made the finals in 2017 is vastly superior then the Devils as whilst the Misfits have a winning record against finalists the Devils have defeated only one finalist – the seventh placed Gariwerd Cockatoos way back in Round 1. Given Cradle Mountain’s record of frequently having narrow losses in games they have started as slight favourites in during 2017 they are quite happy to be underdogs for the final against Marble Bar. Expect a hard-running attacking game from both sides who each have two midfielders on the bench. Based on the season averages of the 15 players in each finals team the Misfits are projected to win by 65 points. Cradle Mountain have been encouraged to play attacking football and play like dareDevils to give themselves the best chance of upsetting the in form Misfits.

Gariwerd team travelling to Venus Bay to face the Vultures

    In: Chad Wingard, Tom Hickey
    Out: Aaron Young, Tom Bellchambers

D: ZTuohy, SHurn, BSmith, HTaylor (LDunn)
M: MCrouch, BGoddard, JSteven, JPolec (RMathieson)
    R: THickey (HGreenwood - oop)
F: CWingard, MWallis, TWalker, TMiller (CCurnow)
    I: NJones, JLewis

There are some doubts over Jared Polec, Taylor Walker and Tom Hickey, but all 3 have put their hand up to play and we'll give them all until the last minute to prove themselves fit, but all have emergencies ready to cover.

It was a tough decision whether to go with Harry Taylor or Lynden Dunn in defence, but we've decided to stick with Taylor and hope his big-game experience will hold him in good stead. Despite Dunn only just missing out, Hugh Greenwood is clearly our best emergency and is preparing to play ruck as Hickey is the least likely to play out of our best 15. As for the other emergencies, they are being pressured by Cam Guthrie who could not make our best 19 this week.

We notice former Cockie B&F, Brett Deledio has been dropped by Venus Bay, which we are disappointed about because we were looking forward to playing a final against him.

But no worries, we've just gotta play the team that fronts up against us and we're up for the challenge! Go Cockies :) :)

If you were playing the Chooks you would already be in the prelim Len. Shaw, Biggs and Dahlhaus were poor and Libba was putrid again. My man love for that man has faded very quickly this year.

"Fitzy Goes Rogue in Switzerland" sounds like an Enid Blyton yarn from my childhood. Ideally with lashings and lashings of ginger beer.

    hilarious!
@graeme have you heard about the enid blyton for grownups parody series: Five Give Up the Booze, Five Go Gluten Free, Five Go On A Strategy Away Day and Five Go Parenting, perhaps in the 5th, they could run into Fitzy the rogue in Switzerland and find themselves in an adventure!
I havent read any of them yet, Im too busy reading the original series to my daughter, but they sound very funny.

An update in the match is as follows:

Venus Bay Vultures 83/1 vs Gariwerd Cockatoos 37/1

The slow start to both teams looks like it will continue throughout the weekend before a late flurry with 6 players in total playing in the last game of the round.
