@ViQBoZ, @stowie, @thokash, @tyze1, @Len, @Dale Duivesteyn , @Darran The 2017 All-Stars Match is to be played during Round 9, each team will have at least 1 representative in the final 22 (named in the classic Super coach format except with no C/VC and with an emergency on each line, ie 26 players total). Note Port Adelaide and Gold Coast players have the bye. @Bearfly and the board also have to announce the host town (Rutherglen hosted in 2016 as the 9th placed side at the end of Round 15). Those who made it last year - note we left out some very strong players based on their coaches wishes and lost narrowly, hopefully we really do select the "best 22". Sam Docherty (Drouin), Matthew Boyd (Avengers), Corey Enright (Jan Juc) Jasper Pittard (Drouin), Josh Gibson (Butchers), Jimmy Bartel (Black Swamp) (Emergency Bachar Houli Jan Juc) Patrick Dangerfield (Drouin), Scott Pendlebury (Fugitives), Daniel Hannebery (Jan Juc), Josh P. Kennedy (Chinchilla) Joel Selwood (Black Swamp), Adam Treloar (Avengers), Marcus Bontempelli (Black Swamp), Patrick Cripps (Mole Creek) (Emergency Callan Ward Avengers) Dayne Zorko (Chinchilla), Daniel Wells (Fugitives), Leigh Montagna (Chinchilla) Luke DAHLHAUS (Butchers), Jack Gunston (Fugitives), Aaron Hall (Chinchilla) (Emergency Tom J Lynch GCS and Fugitives) Todd Goldstein (Butchers), Shane Mumford (Drouin) (Emergency Brodie Grundy Jan Juc) Post away
Black Swamp 29ers football club nominates the following players:- Defence Sam Mayes - 2017 6 games @87, 2016 21 games @ 70, Round 9 opponent - Adelaide Midfield Bont (Team East Rep in 2016) - 2017 6 games @123, 2016 22 games @ 108, Round 9 opponent - Geelong Midfield Selwood (Team East Rep in 2016) - 2017 6 games @115, 2016 22 games @ 112, Round 9 opponent - WB Forward Sam Reid (Syd) - 2017 6 games @87, 2016 0 games, 2015 21 games @72, Round 9 opponent - St Kilda Forward Ben Brown - 2017 6 games @83, 2016 21 games @ 76, Round 9 opponent - Melbourne Forward/Ruck Callum Sinclair - 2017 4 games @83, 2016 16 games @ 64, Round 9 opponent - St Kilda (Hickey or Longer ??)
We'll throw Danger (115, v WB), Duncan (114, v WB), Docherty (113, @ FRE), Mumford (111, v RIC), Shuey (110, @ ESS) and Big Tex (104 @ BRIS) in the mix. Ty Vickery has also volunteered to cut the oranges.
Fugitives nominate: Def: Macmillan (87), Salem (85) Mid: Pendles (117), Cotchin (111) Ruc: Martin (109) Fwd: Macrae (104) Round 9 players excluded Lynch (98) Harbrow (96)
Wow, this years team is going to be a lot different it looks like with almost the whole forward line and back line being changed! It's a shame that just like in 2008, Gary Ablett will have to miss this representative game. Duck nominations (for now): Tom McDonald (DEF, 89 ave) - definitely needs to be kept an eye on over the next 2 weeks if he continues to play as 2nd ruck Brodie Grundy (RUC, 98 ave) - probably behind Mummy and Stef, is averaging 118 without Mason Cox in the side
Mole Creeks possibles (barely): Isaac Heeney FWD avg: 91 Christian Petracca FWD avg: 87 Brodie Smith DEF avg: 81 Sadly club captain and 2016 rep Patrick Cripps 91 avg won't be enough.
@Dale Duivesteyn , @Darran it would be handy to see who you guys are nominating for consideration from your sides and any advice would be welcomed as clearly last years decision makers failed in the extreme !
Macquarie Island nominate: Def: Montagna (Avg 101) Mid: Zorko (Avg 107), Josh P Kennedy (Avg 104) Fwd: Higgins (Avg 99) Zach Tuohy (Def), WHE (Fwd) & Koby Stevens (Fwd/Mid) may be worth a look but I imagine will ultimately miss out to much stronger & more consistent players. As for advice - probably the best advice I can offer is don't listen to me I seem to have taken a top 4 side and made them less competitive.
Nangkita Bucks will nominate F/M: Dahlhaus (Avg 110) Ruck: Nankervis (Avg 105) Def: Roberton (Avg 110) just throwing these names out there, however im happy with any choices made!
If someone can volunteer to take 15 minutes and compile the nominees by position, sorted by highest to lowest average either before or after Round 7 or 8 that will make everyone's life very easy. Thanks in advance.
I've compiled a list of players from before this round, just doing averages for now - we can do a 3 round and 5 round average closer to team selection maybe. Format below is PLAYER | TEAM | AVE. I'll separate each position into two lists, the first group would be considered "locks" for that position as of their current form, and the 2nd group are the contenders for the remaining spots and emergency position) DEFENDERS Sam Docherty DDB 113 Dylan ROBERTON NKB 110 Leigh Montagna MIW 101 Zachary Williams CBA 99 Zach TUOHY MIW 92 (despite what Darran thinks of him, he's a good shout!) Heath Shaw CBA 90 Tom MCDONALD JJD 88 Sam Mayes 29ers 87 Christian Salem RGF 85 Brodie SMITH MCG 81 Jamie MACMILLAN RGF 80 Not nominated: Luke Hodge RGF 87 Jasper Pittard DDB 86 Bachar Houli JJD 82 MIDFIELDERS Marcus Bontempelli 29ers 123 Scott Pendlebury RGF 117 Joel Selwood 29ers 115 Patrick Dangerfield DDB 115 Mitch DUNCAN DDB 114 Marc Murphy CBA 118 (on average he makes it, but has been down recently) Trent Cotchin RGF 111 Luke Shuey DDB 110 Dayne Zorko MIW 107 Josh P. Kennedy MIW 104 Josh Kelly CBA 103 Not nominated: Nathan Jones JJD 99 Adam Treloar CBA 99 Dylan Shiel RGF 97 Daniel Hannebery JJD 91 Patrick Cripps MCG 91 RUCKS (I'll list Nankervis here, but he is much better in the forward line for our structure unless we have an injury) Shane Mumford DDB 111 Stefan Martin RGF 109 Toby Nankervis NKB 105 Brodie Grundy JJD 98 FORWARDS Luke DAHLHAUS NKB 110 Toby Nankervis NKB 105 Jackson Macrae RGF 105 Taylor Walker DDB 104 Shaun Higgins MIW 99 Koby STEVENS MIW 107 (1 game only) Isaac Heeney MCG 91 FWD (2 games only) Sam Reid 29ers 87 Christian Petracca MCG 87 Ben Brown 29ers 83 Callum Sinclair 29ers 83 Not nominated: Jack Steele CBA 93 Charlie Cameron NKB 89 Jack Riewoldt NKB 89 Will Hoskin-Elliott MIW 88 From what in my opinion are the "locks" (as explained above, and yes its just my opinion as of now), we are still missing mandatory selections from JJD & MCG. In what turned out to be a nice little equaliser, the East team has the 3 highest scoring Suns not available (Ablett, Lynch, Harbrow) while the West has the 3 highest scoring Port not available (Ebert, Gray, Wines)
Totally agree on the Smurf, lets see how he goes over the next week or two.. I forgot Steele tbh, if he ends up good enough consider him nominated
ripping work @thokash Not sure whether 3 cats mids vs the Dogs in Round 9 is a good idea, I would like to see how Duncan traditionally tracks in wins vs losses per tight games vs blow-outs but I think otherwise the first 2 groups provide the first choice mids unless we need to slot in players from each ORFFF franchise. Steele jumped out at me, has a high ceiling and unless we choose on matchups most of the others are less than rolled gold premium types. Probably Nank/Steele F6/F7 if current form holds. I would suggest we cull the low 80s players from the list unless needed for team balance. While Hanners average is still low I would take out his first 2 games and see how he stacks up after Round 8. I am not surprised to see the Port players hurting the West given 3 coaches club allegiance, it would be worth drafting Ports first or 2nd pick each year just to get good trade value 6-12 months down the track I reckon. Given Ablett was traded and most bidders were some of the better "win now" Eastern teams and several of them went mature aged players in the PSD over youth the Suns player stat makes reasonable sense. Hopefully GAJ decides to play on in 2018 and can pull on the East jumper for the first time.
Well I certainly cursed Duncan didn't I? Considered him a lock and he put in his worst score for the year. Better signs for Smurph, getting closer to our optimal team. Heeney looked impressive again a looks to be the pick of the Glow Wurms. It's a shame we won't have another look at Koby so we will have to make our decision just based on his two games. Taylor Walker will have to be reconsidered after what can only be described as a very strange Adelaide performance. Higgins also has fallen away a bit and not getting as much midfield time. Apart from that no real major changes in average or anyone massively putting their hand up that aren't listed above. I'll put up a few more nominations just to consider as we have no obvious JJD representative: Bachar Houli (DEF, 84 ave, 89 ave last 5) Dan Hannebery (MID, 95 ave, 108 ave last 5) Nathan Jones (MID, 100 ave)
I think Hanners & Heeney are the ones from MCG & JJD - Heeney as a starting fwd and Hanners on the bench. Walker & Higgins hmm I'd like to think we have better options!
Playing 6(+1)-8(+1)+6(+1)+2(+1) and each team has to have a rep in the 22 (rather than on standby), so Hanners M8 or Houli D6 from JJD and Heeney F6 (like a young Brent Harvey in the 1999 S.O.O> match) from MCG seems fine. @tyze1, I remember you being a design Wiz - any chance you might be able to put together an East team Crest/Logo with a motto along the lines of "stick it up em" ala the late, great EJ ??
Alrighty then, we have all the data - decision time. I think I'll list the players in the same format where we have the locks, then we can vote on the remaining slots and emergencies. I've trimmed some of the lower 80 average players to make it easier, but we still have a massive midfield to pick from with Bont the only lock I would consider and a real decision to make in regards to picking the champion mids who have recently been down on form, or the hard charging youngsters. Agree with your thinking @thokash I'd add Danger, Pendles and Duckwood to the locks, though I get why you haven't.. Steele is nominated per above
