Pretty handy team that Fyfe can't force his way into. I can confirm that Heard Island Shags players Johannisen and Fyfe have both formally protested their omissions from this team, and have requested trades to the east coast to give them a better chance of selection
Totalling averages to give us a bit of an indication of the favourites: DEFENSE East: 589 West: 604 Both teams playing pretty much their best 6, give or take. Two 100+ defenders per side, with the West's depth of the remaining 4 the deciding factor. MIDFIELD East: 858 West: 899 Even without Rockliff, the West look to have the advantage. Only two 110+ mids for the East where the West boast a massive 5. There were some strategic calls from the East team to leave out Murphy, and play a few midfielders with 110+ averages in the last 5. RUCK East: 212 West: 192 The only clear advantage for the East is in the ruck department, having the two best rucks on average. Jacobs and Martin get to go head to head in the AFL also, while big Mummy wants to throw his weight around but the East's powers that be said to not hurt Nanky too much. Goldy is up against the ruckless Demons which could mean anything. FORWARDS East: 615 West: 614 By far the closest line, the East have a number of midfield types to run through the forward line as well as the ruckman Nankervis. The West on the other hand have a very tall but mobile line, and strangely the best intercept marker in the competition. Will leaving Waite as emergency be the deciding factor? Only time will tell! TOTAL East: 2274 West: 2309 As expected in a game this prestigious, there basically nothing in it and one supreme performance could be the difference between success and failure.
Half time live scores Geelong vs Bulldogs: EAST: Dangerfield 102 Selwood 44 Bont 30 Dahlhaus 41 Macrae 32 Tuohy 73 (EMG) Fairly disappointing across the board with the exception of Dangerfield returning to form. Tuohy was oh so close to making the best 22 and I'm sure the Eastside will wish they were on the right side of that 50/50 decision. Backup midfielder Duncan also on 65. The Bulldogs are renowned for their scoring in the 2nd halves, lets see if they live up to the hype. WEST: Nothing to see here...
Full time scores after Geelong vs Bulldogs: EAST: 532/5 Dangerfield 151 Selwood 126 Bont 81 Dahlhaus 90 Macrae 84 Tuohy 116 (EMG) Quiet night for the 3 Dogs including our leading average Bont, but the much fabled Dangerwood came to the party to clearly outscore the Dogs trio themselves. Never doubt Dangerwood, can't believe we (or *I*) even questioned their status as locks. Lets hope Joey forgot to set his alarm tomorrow morning so the Irishman can get a call up! WEST Yup, still 0, give it up now Westerners!
I say the East selectors should give it up now Kashman - fancy leaving Tuohy and Duncan out of the 22, especially Duncan and his 18 tackles!!! Could very well prove to be the 2 selection mistakes to cost the East

Some scores after the Swans vs Saints game, I'll go back and edit Bear's post above. Safe to say that scores certainly aren't as high as expected, but even a low scoring close game is exciting! EAST 1092/11 Hannebery 137 Roberton 119 Steele 87 Montagna 85 Heeney 69 Stevens 67 WEST 312/4 Lloyd 110 Riewoldt 77 Franklin 76 ZJones 49
Updates after GWS vs Tigers EAST 1573/16 Mumford 135 Kelly 101 Nankervis 100 Shaw 73 Williams 72 WEST 631/6 Martin 144 Cameron 105 Greene 70
End of Saturday, some large scores happening to outweigh the junk the others are putting out. Tom "50 Pos" Mitchell is so far winning the BOG medal and puts the Westerners in the lead with basically a full players advantage. EAST 1903/19 Pendlebury 142 Hodge 81 Martin 107 Walker 89 (EMG) WEST 1210/11 Mitchell 158 Adams 110 Sloane 119 Laird 110 Jacobs 82 McEvoy 95 (EMG)
Leon played Williams fwd for what may have seemed like good reasons but zero SC impact, when he switched him back to his normal role at 3/4 time our whole team dynamic resolved itself and he started scoring again.
East with an ave of a tick over 100 per player compared to West/Central at 110. Can West/Central maintain that average? Simpson, Neale, Goddard, Merrett, Oliver, Heppell, Goldy, Yeo & JJK say yes it's a very strong possibility. Can East lift their ave per player up to match? Docherty, Cripps & Viney say it's a slim chance but anything is possible if you put in a Titch/Danger/Dusty/Pendles type performance. So far this match is definitely living up to all the hype, but with the home team coming home hard with a 4 goal breeze they are currently favourites with the bookies
A stack of Westerners playing in the Essendon vs WCE game while the East had none. It is serious game on now! EAST 1903/19 WEST 1751/18 Hurley 108 Merrett 107 Goddard 94 Heppell 89 Shuey 78 JJK 72 EAST remaining: Viney Docherty Cripps WEST remaining: Simpson Neale Oliver Goldstein
They scores look like they have swung in the East favour, mostly due to me miscounting the number of completed players for the West - it was actually 1210/12 at the end of Saturday which makes scores super close. In any case, half time at Dees vs North EAST: Viney 68 WEST: Goldy 83 (the Western saviour?) Oliver 40
Scores after North vs Dees EAST: 1998/20 Viney 95 WEST: 1984/20 Goldy 135 Oliver 91 Docherty & Cripps for the East vs Neale & Simpson for the West. Cripps is a bit sore and Simpson is sucking a bit, the other 2 are gunning it. Who will get there in the end?
