In what is probably the record for the shortest amount of time at an ORFFU club, Southern Cross and Blanchetown have come to an agreement that sees A.Bonar & the Sandgropers 1st rnd MSD pick head to the Bunyips in exchange for Jaidyn Stephenson. The club would like to thank @martyg for the swift conclusion of this trade.
I really didn't think Stephenson would make it past pick 8 or so; delighted to get my target albeit at a slightly greater expense. It could come back to bite me but the draft is a lottery anyway. Only another 30+ selections until I can pick again
Trading during the drafts makes things complicated for Chops and myself to stay ontop of everything, but it sure makes things interesting.... doesn't it?
I'd think so. Many thanks to all the coaches that championed trading during the draft; absolutely stoked to get Stephenson. We'll likely see this in the AFL draft within the next couple of seasons.
I still haven't seen the whole thing yet, but I've been watching highlights of the Kevin Costner movie "Draft Night", about trading during the NFL draft. I almost feel like we're getting there, both the 'FU and the AFL. Youtube the best scenes, and see what I mean....

@eagle_eyed @martyg I have a question for you both... (in my capacity as an 'FU coach, not as the 'FU commissioner). Basically, Blanchetown selected J Stephenson, who Southern Cross wanted. Some time passed, then Southern Cross selected A Bonar. No time at all passed, and a trade was announced. It makes me think that Southern Cross went to Blanchetown behind the scenes, and said something along the lines of: "I really want Stephenson, so if I gave you the player I pick next, and my MSD R1, who would that player have to be for you to trade me Stephenson". The question, because I'm really curious: Did any such discussion occur?
I was spewing I'd missed my (unrealistic) target at 13 and was getting ready to pick my player when I remembered I could trade. I pm'd @martyg to see if he would be interested in trading Stephenson for PSD13 & my 1st rnd MSD and we then discussed who we rated as next best available. We agreed Bonar would probably be next best and agreed a deal whereby I took Bonar (no, I didn't take A Bonar! it's pronounced Bonner kiddies; get your minds out of the gutter) and traded him with my 1st rnd MSD for Stephenson. All above board, I was lucky Marty was still online after his pick so we could discuss. In real time I think I pm'd him within about 1 minute of him selecting Stephenson. TBH I'd been at work for 6+ hrs watching the draft and waiting for my pick; very unproductive day for my employer! So the delay in taking my pick was due to the pm, and then the quickness of the trade was because we had already sorted it out before taking my pick. Does this help @JPK?
Hahaha yeah, no problems mate. Was just curious more than anything. The "collusion" thought had crossed my mind, but there's nothing I would expect anyone to do differently, and you just confirmed it. Does make for a nice story!
