Primary thought was that we do more trading before drafts than after drafts. Plus we have trading during the draft for those who miss out and want to make one final play for their player. Finally, the draft shouldn't take that long anyway (maybe 30 picks, tops, which could be done in 4 days).

What a round! I lose Darling (15) to injury early but my ORFFU opponents the Bulls lose Zaka (15) to even things up and then to cap it all off my ORFF* CL GF opponents the Ducks lose both Zaka & Lever (15). Never a good week to have a player go down with a game ending injury but it looks like the footy gods have evened things up in a fantasy sense.

Dustin Martin off to NZ with his dodgy car... who is a Richmond supporter besides TTT? Got a bit of stench about it this one! Then again maybe he is over there practising his diving like Rance?

@JPK has there been an update to the gold coast/port bye round as in testing the best 13 compared to the official results?

Not yet. I'll get calculating on it during the week, at worst this weekend.

For this year, a comparison of best 13 versus normal 15-man team, makes absolutely no difference! Yeah, some percentages might change a little, but this happens due to selecting the wrong guy on the bench each week.

    Ararat v King Island
    Actual 1299 / 15 v 1131 / 15
    Adjusted 1221 / 13 v 1070 / 13

    Korumburra v Groote Eylandt
    Acutal 1250 / 15 v 1080 / 15
    Adjusted 1174 / 13 v 1039 / 13

    Pakenham v Pearcedale
    Actual 1227 / 15 v 1371 / 15
    Adjusted 1144 / 13 v 1253 / 13

    Nuytsland v Staghorn Flat
    Actual 1205 / 13 v 1146 / 13
    Adjusted 1205 / 13 v 1146 / 13

    Banchang v Eden
    Actual 1112 / 12 v 978 / 13
    Adjusted 1112 / 12 v 978 / 13

    Serengeti v Coolgardie
    Actual 1115 / 13 v 1051 / 14
    Adjusted 1115 / 13 v 1021 / 13

    Christmas Island v Gisborne
    Actual 1214 / 14 v 1073 / 14
    Adjusted 1190 / 13 v 1042 / 13

    Blanchetown v Hughenden
    Actual 578 / 9 v 1143 / 15
    Adjusted 578 / 9 v 1049 / 13

    Cow Bay v Southern Cross
    Actual 1065 / 15 v 1323 / 15
    Adjusted 982 / 13 v 1225 / 13

Not one of the actual results change.

    Hypothetically:
If Nuytsland had have been playing Christmas Island, the result would have changed.
If Coolgardie had have been playing Cow Bay, the result would have changed.
If King Island had have been playing Staghorn Flat, the result would have changed.
If Hughenden had have been playing Serengeti, the result would have changed.
I'm sure there's a few more examples, but basically, there's very little difference. If I looked, I could probably find more instances of a simple change in the fixture order would have changed match results (eg. Team A beat team B this week, but if they played last week or next week, the result would have been different, because one or two players had very different performances.)

I see no real benefit in making the relative round next year, and in future years, a 13-man match. It basically says to all coaches: "don't have too many players from only one or two teams in your ORFFU side". A balanced side will alleviate the problem, as does having 28 player lists, even if its not Port v GC next year.

Can we put this matter to rest now? 15-man sides all year, regardless.

If it doesn't make a difference couldn't we suggest that we just make the change? Wouldn't it be better to have the system in place when it does create an otherwise abnormal result. Whats the negative of changing?

    My personal opinion is:
I don't see the need for a change, simply for change's sake.
While an utter inconvenience that the AFL could very easily eliminate, we all know its coming, and can all plan for it in some way (atleast by not relying too heavily on players from any one specific team).
I don't see it as fair for those that have managed their teams well, and have a good balance.
I also think that with 28 players on our lists, you can afford to have 13 (nearly half) not playing each week, and still field a team, so I don't see the big deal. (Please note when reading this, that my team is quite heavy on Port players)

    As commissioner:
The biggest issue is around how to manage this potential change.
We either make every team select only 13 players for the week, which isn't in itself too difficult.
Or, Walesy would need to create a new script specifically for the effected round, that selects only the best 13 of the 15-man team. I don't know how easy this is for the chief to do, but the bigger question then becomes: why should some teams get a "double chance" to effectively loophole players, knowing that only the best 13 of their 15 will count, while other teams who can't even field 15 players, don't get this opportunity?
