    Great work. Thanks @Tomster
Its a shame that half of my players don't turn up each week. I guess they took their cues from the Eagles on Friday night :mad::mad:

Tale of 2 sides really. On the plus side, half the team got over 90 points. On the minus side, the other half went missing. Not really much else to say there.

Christmas Island Smugglers defeated Southern Cross Sandgropers 1216 – 1199 @eagle_eyed

After posting their lowest ever score last week, and falling to a team worst 1-3 start to the season, questions were starting to be asked at Flying Fish Cove Park. Not about the coach of course, cos he’s friggin awesome, but about those slack players who were either getting themselves injured, or showing that they aren’t very good at football.

In an attempt to right the ship, the Smugglers welcomed back 4 big names in Beams, Martin, Kreuzer and Geary (well 3 big names and Geary) in their must-win game against the Gropers.

The Gropers went in unchanged, which was a bold strategy given Devon Smith missed the boat, but EE’s confidence was justified as the Gropers were in the 8 and averaging 165 points per week more than the hosts.

The Smugglers’ midfield were hot early, with Beams (101) and Heppell (118) both raising the bat in the first quarter. However, Fyfe (31 touches and 110 SC) and Brad Crouch (36 touches and 100 SC) fought back, so that the Gropers shaded the midfield battle by the barest of margins 389 – 388.

With the midfields cancelling each other out, attention focused on the forward lines as both team attempted to gain ascendancy. That was a waste of time however, as both teams’ forwards were pus, averaging 54 – 52 in favour of the Smugglers.

With the rucks having only a two point differential, the game remained in the balance and was crying out for someone to win it off their own boot. Enter Dion Prestia, who’s 32 touches and BOG 121 SC looked like being enough to secure the four points for the Gropers. However, a slightly down Groper Mitch Duncan and a slightly up Smuggler Kade Simpson were enough for the home team to record a narrow 17 point victory, and an all-time 5-2 record in holding off the Grope.

The Smugglers were thrilled to come away with the win, but just as pleasing was the fact that 15 players were able to take the field. With a couple more of the best XV to return in the next fortnight hopefully something resembling a full-strength squad will be selected shortly. However, things don’t get any easier for the Smugglers next round as they host the reigning premiers Ararat in another must win game.

The Gropers were unlucky, with some of their best being significantly below their season average, and will be looking to bounce back at home against the Pdawgs.

    Big Tap

Ryder (SCS) 108 over Kreuzer 106

    BAFFU

    3 – 121 points – Prestia SCS, Hurn CIS

    2 –

    1 – 118 points - Heppell

Apologies @bryzza I'm not going to get the chance to write a full match report for this week.
Stay content in the knowledge that the Vikings were far too good for the Buffaloes, Harry McKay dominated even though he wasn't going to play until Toby Greene was detained at the airport for flykicking a baggage handler and even though you only had 3 tons at least you didn'ft have 3 sub 50 scores.

    Final scores
    Nuytsland 1299 def Serengeti 1144

    BAFFU
    3 Harry McKay NV (153)
    2 Zac Merrett SB (137)
    1 Patrick Dangerfield SB (127)

    Giant Tap
Brodie Grundy (100) defeated Ben Brown (34)

Early in the match at The Sandpit and it’s Southern Cross (326/5/65) leading @Batfink ’s Hughenden (296/4/74) by 30 points. A shit show from Hibberd, showing why he’s a poor excuse for depth this season, and an early injury to Smith has hampered scoring for the home side but there’s a long way to go and some good scorers to come.

    Go ‘Gropers!

Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,188 defeated by Staghorn Flat Bulls 1,248

Another great win on the road last week for the Cuda’s against a depleted Bunyips whilst the Bulls took care of the Blowfly’s in a close high scoring match.

The home team get Houli and Lewis back and are feeling confident however the Bulls have their twin tower in Lynch n’ Lynch. In saying that Weitering and Naughton were sent to the twin towers and held them to just 1 goal. Houli started slowly however had a solid last half, and the ever-reliable Lloyd had lots of the footy with 37 touches. For the visitors Liam Ryan started deep in the forward pocket picking up a goal for his troubles but nobody could stop Roughy with 2 goals and 13 disposals.

At the other book end Hooker was on fire with 3 frees frustrating Cripps of the Jamie variety who really was just terrible. Hawkins got involved for a goal, 14 possessions and a strike on Hooker (ouch). Gowers chimed in for a goal but was kept quiet by Salem who sizzled with 29 disposals and gun Whitfield played an important role but in front of the white sticks Mihocek kicked true and bagged 4 big ones.

The big tappers Stanley and Bad Boy McEvoy crashed and bashed all day long giving the midfielders plenty of pig skin with Stanley just edging out his counterpart.

Like top fuelled funny cars each team’s engine rooms were at full throttle. The Bulls having a mixed of youth and experience in ball magnet Coniglio who was prolific all day and Hugh McCluggage bagging 2 goals and racking up the touches, while Rockliff played the inside mid with 32 possies and Hill got tagged by Phillips who crisscrossed through the middle. Zorko the magnificent follow suit and cleaned up the slopes, Corn boy Cripps had an awesome first half and the Bont lead the way to the locals chanting.

The rotations off the bench for the Bulls was a master stroke bringing in Hately for his first game, this kid can play, 22 touches was just a glimpse into what he will do in the future and was probable the winning difference. Whilst Lobb pinched hit around the ground. For the home side Berry was full of run and did his utmost to get his team over the line. As for Lewis he was soft and perhaps was rushed back to early as he sustained an injury to his right thigh early in the second quarter.

It was a mighty struggle between the Bulls and the Cuda’s, unfortunately for the home side they were not good enough as the visitors clinched a close win @tyze1 to send them to second place with a 4-1 record whilst the Cuda’s haven’t won at home yet and will be hoping for Riewoldt to return against the Panthers.

    @martyg

    Bunyips - 470/7/67
    Bulls - 475/6/79

A bagel to Tyson not helping the Bunyips cause in an uninspiring start to this contest
