Things have picked up with the Bulls putting up an entertaining fight Serengeti 1093/91/12 v Staghorn 954/87/11 @tyze1
Banchang v Hughenden. 3rd QTR: the 3rd Qtr started quite brightly for the home side with L D-U (116) off the bench, having his best game since Rd1 and he was well supported in the middle by The 3 Amigos, Adams (110) Greenwood (109) and Langdon (89) who all got plenty of the pill thru Lycett (107) in the ruck. Oliver (105) for the visitors, tried hard to counteract them but only Mayne (103) and Langford (103) offered help forward of the ball, while Mills (111) down back did what Mills does every game, and that is compete... 14/1249 v 8/639 4th QTR: Hughenden needed a good start to the final qtr to peg back 610 pts, with Seedsman (119) Sheppard (112) and Ward (98) showing the way, but unfortunately, as well as they played, it wasn't enough and they fell 104 pts short. Match report from Pakenham v Groote Eylandt The struggling Parasites played host to the ladder leading Barracudas, and it was a match the home fans wished they hadn’t turned up for. The formidable Groote Eylandt dominated from the outset with Pakenham barely giving a showing. Final scores Barracudas 1502 defeated Parasites 1044 The Cudas had match winners all over the field posting a great score of 1502, with the likes of Zorko 174, Bont 156, Weitering 143, McGovern 121, Naughton 108, Guthrie 107, Isaac Smith 105 and Ryder 103 leading the way and doing what ever they liked. Basically everyone did a job it was a great team effort. The miserable Parasites had Blicavs 125 and Sidebum 115 the only ones getting a touch. The youth and injuries are taking a toll. A massive loss for the boys to lick their wounds over. One team continues on in the flag push whilst the other struggles to not win a wooden spoon. The big tap was won easily by Ryder 103 defeated Big Row 68 BOG. 3 Zorko, 2 Bont, 1 Weitering
Coming off a mid season break that saw more than the average amount of player movement happening across the Serengeti, including the departure of one of the few reamining premiership players in Charlie Dixon, the home crowd supporters were apprehensive about what they were coming to witness as they settled in at The Crater. Those apprehensions were growing into full blown anxieties when the Bulls of Staghorn Flat were repelling every attack the Buffaloes could muster. Brayden Maynard (121) shone brightest but was ably accompanied by Whitfield (116), Barrass (115) & Salem (114) in what was one of the most dominant defensive displays this league has ever seen. The fact that none of the Buffaloes forwards could make any significant impact under such domination had Serengetians everywhere devising plans of how they might be able to bring Charlie to come back home. Even Captain Dangerfield's (97) went unnoticed when compared to his opponents. Fortunately for the hometown supporters a half time rethink devised a strategy where the teams mids would just bypass their forwardline and look to do the work themselves. The ploy came off with BOG Merrett (147) teaming with Smith (126), Parish (121), Heppell (121) & Kelly (103) to ensure the Buff could still score enough by restricting their midfield opponents and kicking over the dominant Bulls defenders. Those weight of numbers told the story in the end with the Buffaloes holding off a much improved Bulls outfit to continue their push into the finals with Staghorn Flat returning home defeated but encouraged by what the new genertation of Bulls was able to produce. Sorry for the delayed reports out of the Goldfields @HOLKY, The carrier pigeons have gotten lost, then had to spend some time in quarantie thanks to Lockdown McGowan. (I actually spent the weekend out enjoying myself, and was ready to go to the Eagles on Sunday when I received and sms saying not to come because the fans were locked out!!!). Anyway... The Coolgardie Prospectors were pleased with their post-bye performance in getting a ~70 point win against the visiting Eden Whalers. Team selection still leaves a lot to be desired for the Prospectors hierarchy, but it was also an issue for the visitors, with T Papley originally named in the side, only to be dropped in favour of JJ Kennedy, to then go on and outscore JJK and KKP. For Coolgardie: J Short was the only defender to do anything of note, although OOP T Dumont had a decent showing. The mids were solid, with T Miller leading the way yet again, and J McInerney proving his worth. N Larkey finally repayed the faith a ton of his own. New recruits W Hoskin-Elliott and M Owies both stood tall. For Eden: The defence really stood up, with Z Williams leading the way for the side. The mids were serviceable, but not great, and a last-minute scramble for a replacement was well below average. The forwards were a 50-50 affair, with C Dixon and L McCarthy putting the score on the board. The bench came on really strongly, with a combined >200 points between D Howe and L Baker. New recruits M Flynn (84) and C Dixon (90), were great, while A Keath (54) and JJK (40) were below average. The big tap was comfortably won by Coolgardie's O McInerney, by 31 points over Eden's M Flynn, 115 to 84. The votes: 3 - T Miller, Coolgardie, 123 2 - Z Williams, Eden, 123 (losing side) 1 - O McInerney, Coolgardie, 115 Next up sees Coolgardie on the road to face Korumburra, while Eden are back home hosting Ararat. Good luck to all four teams.
Final result from the Horsham V Cow Bay match with the Crocs taking a reasonably comfortable 173 point win (1045 vs 872), however both sides were short on players and neither team will feel their 2021 ambitions (finals for Cow Bay and avoiding the wooden spoon for Horsham) are on track. The match up was in the balance going into Sunday but Scrimshaw (131), Moore (100) and Taranto (100) were outstanding, with Jack Martin's 90 later in the day finishing the job. For Horsham, new recruits Drew (107) and Jiath (88) were great and Flanders (86) had the best game of his career so far. No new injuries to report, but Billings was a late out. BAFFU 3 votes - J Scrimshaw (COW) 2 votes - W Drew (HG) 1 vote - D Moore (COW) & T Taranto (COW) Big Tap Ceglar (COW) won unopposed Next round, the Crocs are at home to Pakenham, meanwhile Horsham are away at Blanchetown.
Round 15 Ararat vs Blanchetown Fresh off the byes and midseason draft, there was optimism in the air for both sides. For the Bunyips, two fresh faces ran out and made a strong start to a hopefully long career. Dale (96) led the interchange line and helped pickup the slack for Fogarty (14) while Atkins (73) showed he will be a valuable addition in the forwards this year and backs in 2022. It was nice to see Charlie Cameron (104) start the Harley up, but unfortunately there wasnt enough room for all the passengers; King (25), Fritsch (52), Daicos (40) and Hardwick (50) were all well below their usual outputs and the Blanchetownians were left wondering 'what if'. The home side had a solid rest with some stern words to the low-performance manager for all the injuries thus far in 2021. With some troops beginning to filter back, it was wonderful to see Perryman (101) and Rozee (79) find some form. Underdone Rowell (76) battled hard as he looks to find some confidence in his body, and while match committee umm'ed and ahhh'ed, it couldnt in good faith go with a Double McDonald this round, with Luke running the water for the Interchange lads. New recruit Walker (107) did his best to fit in, but sadly we copped another injury with Wingard (58) pinging a hamstring and now out 2-4 weeks. Overall a solidly unspectacular game by both sides finished with a win to the Armadillos. Ararat 1307 def Blanchetown 1209
