Thanks @leematty1, feels you were unlucky in the back end of Sunday. Good luck for next year and no doubt see you in the trade period.

The 2021 ORFFF semi finals were a typical finals madhouse with an extra dash of the bizarre as players were flown through a series of Amazing Race style checkpoints all around the country and most eventually arriving throughout the weekend at the Maralinga and Jac Juc footy grounds.

The Whales @Darran had obviously prepared with Mick Malthouse precision and adherence to the one per centers as they hit the scoreboard hard and strangled supply to the Atoms @Brett Sanders forward line before prevailing with an impressive 1374-1153 1st Semi Final victory knocking the home side out in straight sets

Elsewhere the Ducks @thokash also withstood an early blitz by the Boozers @leematty1 who then fell away on Sunday to hand the Jan Juc side a well deserved win and the final ticket to the 2021 ORFF Preliminary finals.

The departure of Maralinga and Mt Thirsty leaves the 3 peat chasing Walpole outfit and a trio of sides looking to grasp their first ever ORFFF premiership as this years qualifiers for the final 4.

    2021 ORFFF Preliminary Finals intro

#1 Mole Creek Glow-Worms @James84 vs Jan Juc Ducks @thokash
    • The top 2 from the regular season clash in a mouth-watering prelim final matchup with Mole Creek riding an 8 game winning streak.
    • The head 2 head is 5-1 to the Ducks reflecting the records of a side that has made the finals every season to a side that bottomed out from late 2016 until mid 2019
    • Mole Creek are 1 from 3 in finals and making their prelim final debut while their opponents are 4 from 11 including 0 from 2 in prelims
    • This is the teams finals meeting and both sides are attempting to make the big dance for the first time

#2 Walpole Woylies (UOC) - @port_leschenault vs Macquarie Island Whales @Darran
    • The home side are striving for their 3rd consecutive Grand Final berth and the Whales are looking to continue a fairytale rise from the depths of a 14th placed finish in season 2020
    • The head 2 head is 5-2 to the Woylies
    • Walpole are 8 from 12 in finals and their opponents are 4 from 7
    • This is their second finals meeting with their first being a Walpole win by 43 points (1181-1138) in the 2017 ORFFF Semi Final round

This week's matches commence on Friday and continue until Monday night with the West Coast vs Melbourne match completing the proceedings.

    ORFFF Prelim Finals History

2016 – NIN, DDB, ULV, MIW
    2017 – MTB, DDB (2nd), WPW, JJD
    2018 – MLA, NIN (2nd), ULV (2nd), RGF
    2019 - WPW (2nd), NIN (3rd), MLA (2nd), JJD (2nd)
    2020 - WPW (3rd), NIN (4th), ULV (3rd), HIS

    2021 – MCG (1st ever PF appearance), JJD (3rd, previously 2017 and 2019), WPW (4th, previously 2017, 2019 and 2020), MIW (2nd, previously 2016)

11 of the 16 ORFFF teams have made one or prelims in the first 6 seasons of the competition
    – 4 times (2)
    - 3 times (2)
    - twice (3)
    - once (2)

Since 2017 the number of teams making consecutive prelim finals are 1 (DDB), 0, 2 (NIN and MLA), 2 (WPW and NIN) and 1 (WPW) which is an average of 1.2 teams backing up each season.

Neptune Island 2018-19-20 and Walpole 2019-20-21 are the only sides in ORFFF history to make 3 consecutive preliminary finals.

Can Walpole join Neptune Island as the only sides to make 3 consecutive ORFFF Grand Finals ?

As mentioned above three of the 4 remaining sides have previously made the prelim final stage.

How many survivors of the their first ever prelim finals remain on each team's current (2021) squad?
    • MIW 2016 PF team (7 + 1) = Tuohy, Impey, JPK, Nic Nat, Zorko, Hall and Harmes plus McLean as an unused emergency
    • WPW 2017 PF team (7 + 1) = Wilson, Andrews, Oiver, Merrett, Whitfield, McGrath and Newnes plus Wietering as an unused emergency
    • JJD 2017 PF team (only 5) = T McDonald, Lever, Boak, Crisp and Membrey
What this shows is that teams evolve rapidly and this year's preliminary finalists are likely to move on at least half their squad by the time we take a look back in another half decade or so.

That's some good info as always @TheTassieHawk really feels like ORFFF are starting to build a fair bit of history!

Wow only 5 from 2017 team, and strangely Lever and Crisp were the only Duck originals. Grundy got suspended for the sling tackle in 2017 and certainly cost the Ducks any chance of going further that year.

Ducks have decided to take a cautious approach with Jeremy Cameron this week, hoping the same 19 can take them to the victory this week and have Jezza cherry ripe for the GF.

Don't know anything about Whales except Albany, the city nearby to Walpole, has a big exhibit about the whale hunting they used to do there. No idea why that came to mind.

I swear the core of Woylies is mostly OG draftees. Worried about who is available at the moment, even Bruest has gone down.

    Good luck Darren!

I was going to use a Boomers analyogy but that didn't work out so well in the second half today, so I'll go with this. The Woyles are the almost un-backable favourite this weekend, but we'll see if we can keep our fairytale going for at least one more week, and at the very least make Walpole earn the win.

Good luck to you too @port_leschenault

    Great stat work @TheTassieHawk

Noahs had a season to forget with a flaccid start and tried to play catch up for the rest of the year. Big Max has lost his shine and our once stellar midfield has turned to dust in a heartbeat.

We will do some navel gazing over the off season and do some haphazard tinkering to placate our members and save our coach from the sword.

Best of luck to the prelim finalists.

    Macquarie Island vs Walpole @port_leschenault

No new injuries and only a few small changes in and out through the emergencies, but it will take our best to get close to the reigning premiers.

Def: Tom Doedee, Brodie Smith, Jack Scrimshaw & James Harmes (Jack Henry)
Mid: Ben Keays, Josh Kennedy, Angus Brayshaw, & Zach Tuohy (Justin McInerney)
    Ruc: Nic Naitanui
Fwd: Dayne Zorko, Will Snelling, Aaron Hall & Jamie Elliott (Darcy MacPherson)
Int: Tom Hickey & Trent Rivers (George Hewett)

    Subject to change

It's a new experience for the Glow-Worms this week, first finals win in the bank and looking to keep the momentum going.

Injuries are beginning to tell, losing Pendlebury, Henderson, Z.Williams and Greenwood in quick succession. And we are looking forward to delisting Taylor Walker the 'good bloke' who has never been a good bloke if you apply any scrutiny.

    Mole Creek lineup
Def: Saad, Ridley, Short, B.Williams (Tucker)
Mid: Cripps, Laird, Petracca, McCluggage (Perryman)
    Ruc: Darcy
Fwd: McCarthy, Sidebottom, Heeney, Hind (Dangerfield)
    Int: Curnow, Reeves

Hey no outside assistance! He put Danger on the bench so he must be from the future he doesn't need to be told.

    JAN JUC DUCKS

DEF: Crisp, Lever, Duggan, Noble (Powell)
MID: Boak, Fiorini, Amon, Sloane (Menegola)
    RUC: Grundy
FWD: Hawkins, TMac, Membrey, Dow (Rohan)
    INT: Seedsman, Ross (Collins)

May be a few loopholes going on, or maybe not with how the Cats are going so far tonight!

Looks like TSLeagues is locked, which will make looping a bit hard. Unless someone with greater powers than me can get it active again I assume we will do what the Boozers did last week, and post updated lineups here.

So for the Whales, Trent Rivers drops out of the team from interchange, Jack scrimshaw moves from Def to Int to replace him, and the final defensive position is taken by the non playing Aidan Corr to ensure we benefit from Jack Henry's 93 last night.

    Revised lineup looks as follows

    Def:
Tom Doedee, Brodie Smith, Aidan Corr & James Harmes (Jack Henry)
Mid: Ben Keays, Josh Kennedy, Angus Brayshaw, & Zach Tuohy (Justin McInerney)
    Ruc: Nic Naitanui
Fwd: Dayne Zorko, Will Snelling, Aaron Hall & Jamie Elliott (Darcy MacPherson)
Int: Tom Hickey & Jack Scrimshaw (George Hewett)
