This is it folks, the big one! The one we've all been waiting for - it's been a tough fought season but the two highest scoring teams of the season (& our preliminary final winners) are finally facing off to see who takes out the 2023 GWFFPL Premiership Cup. With only 38 points separating these teams so far in 2023, we are in for a thrilling weekend of footy!

    Darmstadt Dynamos @WillH_VI (1st) vs. Lima Llamas @hoschke118 (2nd)

    Let's start with the Dynamos.
Disaster has struck in back to back weeks with Ally Morphett and Gabby Seymour both suffering season-ending injuries, leaving the Dynamos without a viable ruck option. The Dynamos will need to continue to lean heavily on their forward line (Toogood, Molloy, Frederick) and midfield (Mon Conti, Georgie Prespakis, Britt Bonnici, Tyanna Smith), which fortunately have been in ripping form these past few weeks. Have the Dynamos still got enough in the tank to be the last team standing in November?

    The challenging Llamas.
The Llamas midfield is humming at the moment, with Garner (134), Swanson (121) and Bates (97) leading the team to a win in the prelim finals. The form of O'Driscoll, Gunjaca and Skepper have been inconsistent late but the Llamas put up the highest score in round 9 and some big performances from this trio will go far. Mim Strom will be unopposed (or facing an undersized opponent) and is another one to watch this coming weekend as the key to this matchup.

    Last time they played.

The last time these two teams played was round 5, early October, with the Dynamos prevailing 993 to 879. Huge scores to Mon Conti (121), Ally Morphett* (118) and Bonnie Toogood (105) led the way for the Dynamos, whilst some sub par efforts across the board left the Llamas wanting. This was the Llamas' lowest scoring round for the season, so expect them to bring the fire this week in what promises to be an enthralling match up.

Best of luck to both coaches this weekend!

With the Dynamos forced to played Frederick out of position and some early big scores coming in for the Llamas (Garner 150, Houghton 103), things were looking very good for Lima. But since then the Llamas have stumbled a bit and Darmstadt have been scoring well (Prespakis 104).

It sits at roughly Lima 8/625 to Darmstadt 7/522 with Conti, Bonnici and Smith still to play for the Dynamos' midfield while the Llamas' midfield have all already played. Using average scores of the remaining players gives predicted totals within 10 points of each other, so it's all in the balance!

Good luck for the rest of the match @WillH_VI

It's a very close finish with the unofficial scores being Lima 949 to Darmstadt 950! Might wait for the official scores but either way, great game to finish the season on

I lost my men’s keeper league final by under 10 points, a second straight keeper GF loss by under a goal would be brutal!

Final score ended up being Darmstadt Dynamos 924 vs Lima Llamas 949. Good game! @WillH_VI Two close GF loses is very rough.

Very proud of my Llamas. See you all again next year!

Congrats to the Llamas @hoschke118 for securing their first Premier League title, going 1 better after finishing as runner up in season 2022B.

Commiserations to the Dynamos @WillH_VI who were cruelled by the injury gods in the latter stages of the season and still managed to give the premiership a redhot shake before suffering a second consecutive finals loss to the Llamas.

Thanks to everyone who participated this year, with our write ups a highlight and the onfield contests as hard fought and entertaining as always with the competition smashing all previous scoring records as the level continues to rise season after season.

Some preseason planning will be occurring in June and July before we draft again next August, I hope that everyone enjoys the upcoming AFLW finals series and the off-season ahead.

    Cheers
    TTH
