The Best Buys is here once again to help with your trading needs, in a week where it looks like many teams will be starting to upgrade. Unfortunately so far this year both Best Buy players of the week have returned their lowest scores of the year straight after being picked so hopefully this week will see a turnaround.
The Best Buy for the week is Scott Pendlebury, after a big game on Friday night and a surprising number of team selections to date. Given the efforts of Sloane and Goldy it will be an interesting game again on Friday, with Dependlebury putting his name to the test against what is quickly becoming a Best Buy curse. Can he come out on top with a big score against the Cats, or will the curse take it's toll?
DEFENSE
ROOKIES
Jake Kelly (ADE) DEF 161.7k 53 +27k
Kelly burst his bubble last week, but at around 160 grand is still pretty affordable. Averaging 53 so far he's been solid without starring, but seems to have decent job security for now.
MID-PRICERS
Tom McDonald (MEL) DEF 475k 112 8.1%
McDonald continues to impress, racking up 122 against the Dockers on the weekend to take his average to 112. Still well priced at 475 grand he is in just 8% of sides and is starting to look like a very solid option.
Jasper Pittard (PTA) DEF 451.4k 99 4.3%
Pittard has snuck onto the radar this week after a solid score of 104 brought his average to 99. Costing 450 grand and playing all games so far this season he sits in 4.3% of teams and could make for a decent POD.
PREMIUMS
Bachar Houli (RIC) DEF 540.8k 117 2.4%
Houli is starting to really stand out now, racking up a huge 165 points to top score for round 5 and take his average up to 117. Whether he can keep it going or not is debatable with several players injured or not performing at Richmond, but for the 2.4% of coaches who do have him they'd have to be loving his form so far.
Alex Rance (RIC) DEF 509.5k 109 9.4%
Rance has kept performing, while not quite at the level Houli has been displaying recently, and a solid 97 on the weekend takes his average to 109 for the season. Sitting in under 10% of sides he still has POD value, and seems a good chance to keep averaging 100+.
Heath Shaw (GWS) DEF 500.1k 98 25.4%
Heater pumped out a 122 in a demolition of his team, giving his average a solid bump up to 98. He is sitting in a quarter of the teams in the comp interestingly, and at 500 grand he's almost where he should be price-wise. Set to lose around 5 grand this week if he hits his average hopefully he can get back into some form now.
MIDFIELD
ROOKIES
Blaine Boekhorst (CAR) MID 132.3k 33 +9k
Boekhorst is on the bubble this week with an average of 33 from his opening 2 games at the top level, only managing a measly 12 points on Friday night. Due to this he's only set to rise by around 9 grand in price after his next game and is probably better off being left for a little while yet.
Will Hams (ESS) MID 123.9k 25 +726
Hams is in a similar spot to Boekhorst with his average of 25 but performed better on the weekend with 35. Either way if he scores 25 this week he will increase in value by 726 dollars and is likely not worth your time just yet.
MID-PRICERS
Dylan Shiel (GWS) MID 537.4k 120 8.9%
Shiel performed well on the weekend considering the Giants didn't kick a goal for an hour and a half or something ridiculous, managing to keep his average for the season at 120. Still sitting in just under 9% of teams he is a good buy at his current price, and can hopefully pump out some more big scores when GWS aren't getting belted as badly.
PREMIUMS
Scott Thompson (ADE) MID 551.7k 133 1.6%
Thommo has been on fire since starting the season a bit late, knocking up big scores each week culminating in a 131 over the weekend to keep his average north of 130. If he can keep this form going he's excellent value for his 550 grand price tag, and he has scored well in the past, but you have to wonder if his age will slow him down as the year progresses. Still in under 2% of teams.
Nathan Fyfe (FRE) MID 657.6k 131 58.3%
Fyfe scored well again on the weekend, but has so far seemed to be somewhat quieter when his team is dominating an opponent. Coming in at just under 660 grand and averaging 131 he is pretty much at the peak of his price range but should keep on performing.
David Mundy (FRE) MID 593.2k 126 4%
Mundy also scored well again for the Dockers with a 133 to take his average to 126. Priced a bit below his worth by the numbers at 593 grand he offers decent value and is only sitting in 4% of sides. After being given D/M status today in DT/Fantasy he's a much better pick in those comps and should be in the majority of sides there soon.
Scott Pendlebury (COL) MID 634.6k 124 30.9%
After a big 158 on Friday night against a helpless Blues team Pendles has been named this week's Best Buy. Costing 634 grand and averaging 124 for the year he is probably near the top of his price range but the main reason he's here is the selection numbers, with over 2/3rdsof the competition choosing not to start him. To me that is a huge surprise, and while he might not have as many huge games as some others he is certainly one of the most consistent premiums around.
Daniel Hannebery (SYD) MID 591.2k 124 3.8%
Hanners also had a big game on the weekend, scoring 144 in a surprise loss for the Swans. Priced at around 590 grand he still offers good value for his average of 124, and has easily been the Swans most consistent midfielder this year. With under 4% of teams selecting Hannebery he is also a tasty POD option.
RUCK
MID-PRICERS
Mark Blicavs (GEE) M/R 461.8k 100 10.8%
Most SCers are still waiting for the duo of Blicavs and Grundy to drop off, but so far they just keep on performing. Managing 111 against the Tigers has brought Blicavs' average back up to 100 and he will be facing off against Grundy this week in a battle to determine who is the best young ruck prospect around.
Brodie Grundy (COL) RUC 437.9k 99 14.1%
Funnily enough, that means that Grundy will be playing against Blicavs this week, and after a score of 119 against the Blues it should be a great battle. Grundy is a bit cheaper than Blitz still but is in a few more teams so both have pretty similar pro's and con's at this stage.
PREMIUMS
Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 610.1k 122 31.6%
Goldy continued my poor form with picking the Best Buy, returning his lowest score of the year on the weekend with a 92. Luckily it's not really a terrible score and his average still sits at over 120. Now in 31.6% of teams and costing 610 grand he won't change much in value this week so it really won't hurt to leave it another week to bring him in if your team has more pressing concerns.
Stefan Martin (BRI) RUC 569.8k 105 2.7%
A bit of a surprise here, as he was last year too really, Stef Martin belted out his second score in a row over 120 and his fourth over 95. After a quiet game to begin the year Martin has been in great form and is currently in under 3% of sides. Leuey shows no signs of returning to form and stealing Martin's points just now, so he could well be a difference maker for those willing to take the punt.
FORWARD
ROOKIES
Nathan Krakouer (PTA) M/F 173.8k 72 +44k
Krakouer didn't quite live up to his previous efforts on the weekend only managing a score of 52 to bring his average down to 72. This did mean though that his price didn't rise by quite as much as it could of and he could still be worth bringing in if he can keep his spot in a strong Port side.
Lukas Webb (WBD) FWD 161.2k 56 +40k
Webb looked fairly good on the weekend, hitting his average of 56 and not increasing in value too drastically. Now priced at just over 160 grand and set to rise another 40 grand this week Webb looks the pick of the rookies this round.
Fraser McInnes (WCE) FWD 123.9k 45 +26k
McInnes didn't really excite on the weekend with a score of 20, but his average of 45 isn't the worst going around. About to burst his bubble and increase in price by around 26 grand, realistically you're probably better making an upgrade if possible this week.
Patrick Karnezis (COL) FWD 133.5k 24 -3k
Karnezis is also about to break his bubble, with an average of 24 and a predicted price change of -3k. I'll just say that's not a great sign for his overall cash generating potential, and leave it at that.
MID-PRICERS
Marcus Bontempelli (WBD) M/F 485.6k 112 51.7%
The Bont is still going well, averaging 112 and tracking along nicely for a top-6 forward spot this year. Costing just 485 grand he is great value for teams that haven't brought him in, but he is now sitting in over half the sides in the comp.
Eddie Betts (ADE) FWD 453.2k 103 3.5%
Betts had another big game on the weekend, although it is a little worrying for those considering picking him that it took 5 goals to get to 113. Now averaging 103 for a price of 453 grand he is decent value, but doubts will remain about his ability to maintain form.
PREMIUMS
Robbie Gray (PTA) M/F 566.5k 110 47.5%
Gray bounced back nicely on the weekend, knocking out 134 points to take his average to 110 for the year to date. Sitting in a bit under half of teams he's a pretty popular player still.
Luke Dahlhaus (WBD) FWD 520.1k 108 3.5%
Dahl has kept on going, averaging 108 and sitting in only 3.5% of sides. Priced at 520 grand he is around the mark and should continue to perform for at least as long as the Doggies do.
Devon Smith (GWS) FWD 532.8k 103 1.5%
Smith had a bit of a downer on the weekend, as a lot of his team did, only managing a score of 88. This brought his average down to 103 for the season so far and his price to 532 grand. Now possibly a bit overpriced he isn't the best value, but should improve this week and is still in only 1.5% of squads.
