I think I'm going to use these first 2 trades trades to fix up some picks that aren't playing in Ben Rohrer (oops) and Luke Butterworth, and then next round get in some bargains like Richardson. I'm planning on Butterworth to Faulkner, and Rohrer to either Andrew Robinson or Maddinson. I didn't see the Heat vs Sixers on Friday, could someone let me know how they looked? Another option would be to go to someone not playing like Cooper, I assume he would make it into the Strikers lineup even though they looked good in game 1. Here's the team: BAT: D. Hussey, Finch, Blizzard, Lynn, (Rohrer) AR: Gayle, Afridi (Butterworth) WK: Wade, (Triffit) BOWL: McKay, Nannes, B. Lee, Doherty (Hazlewood)
Thanks for the praise in getting the right rookies. Pity I didn't pick them hahaha On Robinson didn't he slug it better than Maddinson? Both were pretty decent. I've got Cooper and hope he gets a run with the Strikers, but they do have a very strong lineup. You'd think given he I think rightly has international claims given his form, he will get a run, maybe even ahead of Ferguson. Faulkner looks a good player to get in, and very adequate cover for the gun all-rounders. On the whole I reckon I'm doing OK at assessing them considering I don't have Foxtel and am relying on stats. True sabermetrics at play here gents. (Which is why I'm 4000th... )
Very annoyed with myself. Traded too early (sound familiar HeavyMen?) So I thought Cowen was playing all the big bash but must have misread & obviously he was okd to play just the opener. So have done my trades & find I am now a btsman short with Warner & (what I thought would be his cover) Cowen now out. Also trading is tricky with next weeks first game again on a Tuesday (27th). So at the "G" boxing day & then needing to scrouge a computer at an internet cafe to at least cover /trade Warner. Luckily have another week to concentrate on trading in a couple of rookie cash cows. Got mean old Lucas this week & already a player short!!!

TSCC is 526/2137. Don't quit our day job, stick with footy, etc? Some (old) news on Cooper: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-12-17/cooper-free-to-play-for-strikers/3736394?section=sport So he actually was available but missed selection is the way I'm reading that, don't think I'll take any risks bringing him in then. Hopefully a good late downgrade option.
The Boys Club (885872) - avg 494 pts - 495th out of 2137 leagues TSnoOFFSEASON (360282) - avg 450 pts - 1277th out of 2137 leagues - not sure if everyone is TS though !!
Brought in Maddinson and Hazlewood to cover the benches, sorting of banking on Lyon playing so then I can downgrade/sideways him next week and upgrade Butterworth to a price riser. Harris as captain I think, can't see the Thunder bowlers containing the Striker's batters. Stars, Hobart, Renegades, Adelaide my tips for the wins.
Teams for tonight's match - hope everyone got their trades right Brisbane Heat: Hayden, B McCullum, Lynn, Forrest, Christian, Robinson, Neser, Buchanan, Harris, Hauritz, McDermott Melbourne Stars: Quiney, Wade, Bailey, D Hussey, White, Vogues, Wright, Faulkner, McKay, Warne, Dernbach
Hope you didn't trade out Hauritz Lucas, 2 wickets already! Always the way. Also getting sick of Wade...so much for a set and forget WK, should have played Triffitt.
Embarrassing myself in this game. Warner not playing & misunderstood the Cowen commitment, nice 100 just in wrong game format :-( White (2), Wade (SFA) Hopes late wdl, Butterworth inj Unprintable language going on at my place %#@* @#*^%$#
Yep traded Hauritz FML Hopefully Richardson nails about 50 points and the trade will still be reasonable given bank balance. Still, not that unhappy with the performances of Hussey and McKay, and feel that Faulkner is a good one for the future in my team given that Dirtbag and Knight aren't exactly covering themselves in glory at the death. George Bailey however, looks like he will be there picking up a few points until I can afford to upgrade him. Which hopefully won't be too long. At least he's getting a decent bat each game and will be a reliable 15-20 points without catches. Some middle order players will go 35 or 40 then 0
But the real talking point was Warne. What a great comeback. In the Thunder game I thought White should have entrusted him more vs Warner. Sometimes you just need to say we will accept a 30 run hit in a T20 game so long as you get your wicket. Warne was the main way Warner would have to take risks to get runs, all you need is one mistake and that's the wicket taken. All in all though, the crowd, the match, the champion returning, made for a very good T20 experience I think. Another win for cricket over the naysayers. I like the game and the format better than the 50 over game which has turned into a risk free bore for 60 overs of its content. I think the only main issue with the BBL is with the Sydney and Melbourne franchises, which in hindsight could have been more regional in nature. Say Newcastle and Geelong perhaps. The Melbourne and Sydney audiences have been split. Now true cricket fans should really enjoy the experience of watching both teams play when it suits - but it doesn't help the tribal aspect. Personally I think the Renegades will be worth watching, but the Stars have the MCG which is clearly my preferred cricket watching venue. For those regional QLD people complaining against Brisbane's team, they need to remember the lack of support they gave the A-League's Fury, and the fact that until the Queensland Roar became the Brisbane Roar, they achieved precisely nothing. The fact that matches aren't played in regional areas should be rectified next season with each team strategically playing there; at least for lead up match practice. Bet on it.
Agree on Faulkner, could have easily scored another 60 points if he avoided the run out on the final ball (unlucky) and two dolly catches going down off his bowling. I also have him in the Fox comp and they gave him 2 dropped catches for those rockets hit down the ground that clipped his fingers, bit harsh! Warney was a blast, agree that he was underbowled vs the Thunder (basically 7 off 10 balls excluding the 2 sixes that no-one but Warner would have taken). Excellent drawcard for crowds, awesome commentary from the ground and still probably the best spinner in the world, love it! As for the BBL I would have loved to see the old states in place, I don't feel as committed to following either of the Melbourne teams as much as the Bushrangers. Maybe they could have done something like the AFL U18's with Vic Metro and Vic Regional or something?
Birt stop making me regret not bring you in! Oh, as a sport this is a joke, only care about it because of the fantasy element.
I think the Vic Metro and Vic Country would have been a fantastic idea, probably only taken out by having to put cameras etc in place. Maybe they can get the Geelong and Ballarat grounds up to standard and shove the Renegades out there Loving Birt, Naved at the moment, not so much Bailey, Hauritz. But as expected this week all comes down to Afridi. Go big fella, 120 x 2.
