IMO more strict modding so that a thread simply covers one topic would also help.

Are you suggesting we are all over the shop chels? You need a Moderator to do modding and we are currently de-modded. And I think it is a lesser issue that we can leave for next year. Self-modding is a really fulfilling experience. You should try it, right up there with pig hunting.

I will attempt to pull the various issues into a coherent thread at an appropriate time.

One issue that has become plain is that our initial draft was a once-off, never to be repeated experience. All drafts from here on in are simply list turnover, much like our mid-year draft. What this implies is that we have to know who is in the pool before we can have a pre-season draft. It also means 24h force-picking of the highest ranked player is out the window, thus thought needs to be given as to how we spank those naughty coaches who don't turn up for their pick.

And bama has said we need finals, so we will have finals. The other guys have an 8, with a knockout over 3 rounds. Top 3 get to choose their opponent in first round of finals ("Please don't tell lies about the ORFFL."). One thought is to follow the SC system with top 8 and bottom 8 finals over 4 rounds, so everyone remains involved. We could do that AND add some of the ORRFL elements as well. On the table for discussion after erections.

Think we can all breath a sigh. On reflection, given Chris dropped back in, and after listing the recalcitrants, we are not in bad shape really. Mawson Base the only major worry.

Calendar has been updated.

Thanks for all this TiB, all looks good! Exciting calender, will keep things intresting in off season, if a team doesn't show up and we are looking for a replacement I do know someone who is intrested as well. :)

And bama has said we need finals, so we will have finals.

This year's format was only ever intended to be a 'one off' and it was always the plan to have finals next year. The ORFFA's late kick off meant that finals weren't a realistic option. Everyone's eagerness to get this show rolling meant that was one of the trade-offs.

From memory, most agreed that playing each team once this year was preferrable to having finals after an abbreviated H&A draw where you didn't play everyone once. That's also why we played during the bye rounds.

But rest assured, as A/g Supreme Overlord TiB has already stated, we will have finals.

:)

Not a problem for me having finals - I floated the idea of only a home and away series in case there was support for it. In our reviews I would hope we would "question" all assumptions and be open.

My apologies for the Nuffers not taking the field last week. The boys all needed penicillen shots after partying with Harry in Vegas and I got the flu.
All on board for next season though.

When we make these rules let's be sure to adopt the KISS principle so it doesn't get too onerous.

All looks good fellas... Well, maybe not all, as there are contradictions of course. But, the discussion is great.
I've read through the lot and fwiw, will add a little.

It is correct that almost everyone agreed to playing through byes and playing each other once each without finals - from memory, I don't think there was a single person that blocked it. Admittedly, we had to get simonoz to influence a few decision makers in the process.

But, yeah, it has always seemed finals were the plan for next season. and beyond I suppose.

I think we all need to play each other once before finals, and it would be better not to play through byes. If that means dropping a team, then it should only be done if a team wants to drop out. An alternative could be to have 3 weeks of finals instead of 4.

On the tanking controversy, as I have mentioned elsewhere, I think penalties should be severe for not fielding a team. This year anyway.
And I really think it's best that we see if it's possible to have the last entered team carry over each week - as someone else suggested.

Regarding the... I can't remember what else I had to write about earlier suggestions... And I've gotta get off bus soon.

I may, or may not be back to add 1c more another time.

I've been purposefully steering clear a fair bit lately, but it was good to have a read through this thread just now. Keep up the great work fellas :)

Where are we holding the ORFFA coaches Mad Monday? Crown Casino? Bangkok?

Jurassic Park seems to be the popular choice this year.

Thanks for the input ant. This will be useful in our forthcoming discussion on any tweaks for 2013.

I am oft misunderstood and think this is the case here (not by you ant, you were simply summing up). It was a dip of the hat to bama, since he has been real helpful with scores, that when he said he would like finals, I said of course bama will have finals. This was tongue in cheek as it has always been our cause that in 2013 we would have finals. It was not up for debate. As was playing through byes, meeting each other once, etc. All history. Let's look forward to our September debate. The foundation for this is that, basically, we follow ORRFL rules. Not because they are fantastic rules, but they are rules born out of their experience. In the next decade we might see as many as 10 new leagues like ours on TS. Would be impractical if they all had their own rules, particularly since the software walesy develops for us is based on these rules and for sure he is only going to write one set. This does not preclude us from little jaunts down a side road. In fact, I can see a future where some modifications trialled in ORFFA are adopted by ORRFL. So, like the AFL, rules are an evolving thing.

The ORRFL have had their mad Monday (at the Mitre Tavern). They make use of infrequent visits by Bearfly to Melbourne as an occasion to get together. Normally melbandy from ORRFA would attend, as it is a hybrid with TiB vs Hornsy. X. has also been to one. We need to think of something similar, requiring a catalyst to bring the Melbourne-based ORFFA together. Unlikely that chels or I will be in town much and not sure if ant gets across the Nullabor at all these days, but we need an occasion like that for social drinks. Later, maybe much later, we could combine these occasions with ORRFL. Anyone have suggestions in this area?

I don't have a desired location, but;
The beer must be cold
The Jack Daniels plentiful &
The wine must be fine

I am happy to supply consumers

Edited to note, I typed this before reading Terry's and cannot in fact join any real get together in Melb, this wont stop me celebrating coming 4th last :)

Mitre is fine with me... a 5 minute walk there from work, and a 15 minute stumble back.

If so, I nominate Bama, Len and TiB. not to all do it, but to be able to be voted for.

If I can only nominate 1 - I nominate TiB

Can't see why not, but think some of those have already declined. Will stick this over in the elect Commish thread.

Just as a point of interest, I might be persuaded to lend my writing talents to the ORFFA previews and reviews in 2013. If there is a need.
