[span style='color: #ff0000;]Season review
[span style='color: #ff0000;]Summary: A great home and away season for the Spelunkers, helped by a great run home post mid season break which saw them win the last 7 in a row to get into the top 4. Regardless of what happens in the finals the year has surpassed our expectations, and Mad Monday is going to be a hell of an event when it kicks off! the list has been improved, but there are still some minor depth issues that need to be taken care of via the draft and trade periods.

[span style='color: #ff0000;]Player review Phil Davis Games: 5 Average : 65 Rating : 2/10 Terrible form before going down with a hip injury , and never really recovered. Days are limited for the Spelunkers captain at The Pit
Mark LeCras Games: 14 Average : 84 Rating : 7/10 Serviceable throughout the year, has built on a solid foundation for the 2014 season.
Ben Reid Games: 14 Average : 80 Rating : 7/10 Exciting times ahead for Ben Reid, now pushing forward, he will continue to score well.
Andrew Mackie Games: 10 Average : 86 Rating : 8/10 Fantastic season for Mackie, not getting any younger but will still be a first choice defender come the start of the 2014 season.
Sam Reid Games: 3 Average : 65 Rating : 6/10 Injury riddled year… looking forward will be ready to go for the start of the 2014 season.
Cale Hooker Games: 13 Average : 77 Rating : 7/10 Great year, and his durability a big bonus.
Terry Milera Games: 1 Average : 57 Rating : 4/10 Just not enough consistency in the reserves to be getting a first team spot. Up on the shopping block end of year.
Andrew Swallow Games: 15 Average : 101 Rating : 8/10 Started like a house on fire, and began to tail off before an Achilles injury ended his season. Will be out for a decent part of 2014 but am hoping he will make a full recovery, as he is a gun.
Leigh Montagna Games: 16 Average : 110 Rating : 8/10 Duracell, just kept keeping on. Great season for Joey which saw him take out 2nd place in the best and fairest. Not getting any younger, but still a quality player.
Joshua Simpson Games: 0 Average : -- Rating : N/A Hasn't played but is very close to getting a first team call up. Highly rated, and his explosive pace is a big asset
Kieren Jack Games: 17 Average : 111 Rating : 9/10 Played every single game and is an out and out freak. Has moved from being a run with player to being the playmaker, and is the cornerstone of the Spelunkers side.
Eric MacKenzie Games: 1 Average : 31 Rating : 6/10 May not have played many games, but is always there or thereabouts. Solid average of 66 over the year and is a very reliable backup.
Jack Gunston Games: 12 Average :86 Rating : 7/10 Has had a great year for the Opening, and I think he will take a massive step forward next year when Buddy moves on. Quality player.
Drew Petrie Games: 17 Average : 102 Rating : 9/10 Played every game for a 102 average to be one of the leading midfield players in the ORFFA. Could not ask for any more.
Shane Savage Games: 7 Average : 87 Rating : n/a Was delisted mid season and then re-drafted back in. Responded by shoving it right up my arse and showing him what a quality player he will be. I won't make that mistake again.
Marco Paparone Games: 1 Average : 35 Rating : 5/10 Jury still out on Paparone. If he continues to develop his key performance indicators, could be a great pickup. Time will tell. Hopefully the new coach gives him a run over the next three weeks.
Daniel Jackson Games: 16 Average : 89 Rating : 8/10 Played every game from Round 2 and found a new lease of life. Another player who gave his all this year and should have polled better than he did.
Jonathan Giles Games: 17 Average : 73 Rating : 5/10 Played every game which is a massive bonus, but the scoring left a bit to be desired. Needs to improve next year.
Stephen Hill Games: 12 Average : 83 Rating : 6/10 Opened the season up with a 120, and then went up and down like a yoyo. Needs to find some consistency, as the talent is there for everyone to see.
Josh Hill Games: 10 Average : 74 Rating : 6/10 Never going to achieve greatness, but has been a very handy F4 this year. May struggle to hold down a long term spot next year when Reid gains full form and fitness, but a very handy backup.
Jarrad Redden Games: 0 Average : -- Rating : n/a The kid is only 22, and is starting to find his feet, at 205cm, he is a giant who has a load of potential. Just need to see how he recovers from injury.
Heath Shaw Games: 14 Average : 93 Rating : 8/10 Too many pies and shenangians this year for Heater… was serviceable but a few points down on average. Hopefully he brings it home come finals series.
Jackson Thurlow Games: 2 Average : 58 Rating : 7/10 Can't wait to see this guy next year… going to be quality, just a matter of when it materialises.
Liam Picken Games: 8 Average : 68 Rating : 6/10 Was brought in as bench cover and has fulfilled that role admirably. Serviceable player who has an incredible work ethic at the coal face.
Shaun Atley Games : 4 Average : 86 Rating 7/10 Atley was part of the trade (with a PSD draft pick) for Josh Jenkins, and struggled to break into the team. However a solid average will see him play a key part in the team through the finals and we look forward to a solid 2014 from him as well.
Sam Rowe Games : 0 Average : -- Rating 5/10 Recruited for the future, young Sam Rowe has a chance to bolster the Spelunkers ruck stocks, whilst also providing some forward cover. He has been improving over the second half of the year, but there were never high expectations for this season.
Lachie Hansen Games : 6 Average : 76 Rating 7/10 Take out the zero score where he got knocked out in the first minute of the rave party at Gariwerd, and Lachie has averaged 91 over 5 games. Has been fantastic cover in the forward line and hopefully continues that run going forward.
Sam Grimley Games : 0 Average : -- Rating 5/10 A development player that the Spelunkers hope to see some more of next season. Has the height and the skills, now we need to see it on the ground.
[span style='color: #ff0000;]Draft period predictions The Spelunkers will be active during the trading period, but only if the deal suits them. We will be on the lookout for a strong ruckman, a good forward and another 90+ ppg midfielder. Several players will be on the table for discussion, some may even be surprising given their scoring potential.

[span style='color: #ff0000;]Spelunkers bundled out by the Dirigibles ORFFA Quarter Final : Charlie's Opening 1109 defeated by Darraweit Guim 1208 Charlie's Opening picked the worst possible time to register their lowest score for the year, losing the sudden death final to Darraweit Guim at The Pit on the weekend. It was the core of the team that failed miserably. poor scores by Shaw (37), Hooker (54), Reid (51), Jack (80), Montagna (80), Giles (35), J.Hill (8- for a whole &*^%ing game!) and Savage (23) consigned the team to defeat. Petrie (162) did his best to bring the side home, and he was ably supported by Mackie (125), Jackson (100), Stephen Hill (114) and Hansen (105)... but it was not to be. Bandit is off to the recruiting and trade tables now... the Spelunkers will be very active during the trade period. And just about every other ORFFA club can expect a knock on the door with a proposed deal.
Crap end to a season where the team played above their expectations... time to lick the wounds, get the players right for preseason and fire up for 2014.

Here is the trading block for the trade period coming up... might be some surprises there (including a 110pt midfielder and the best key forward in the game supercoach wise). Thought Charlie's Opening was closed. I have considerable interest in young Mr. Grimley, since he was snaffled from right under my nose in the draft. He would be worth a lot more if Buddy went to GWS, but when the trade period commences, would be happy to try and work something out. I do have Warnock, who might be offered up, but suspect he will want out of Carlton (especially if he is dropped this week after beating Maric) and much depends on the current ruck stocks of his new destination.

TiB. If you can't sort out a deal for Grimley, come down the road to Powlett and have a chat about Daniel Gorringe.

[span style='color: #ff0000;]Bandit goes off early with trade discussions
Bandit has not let sleeping dogs lie, starting preliminary trade discussions with a number of clubs prior to the official trade period starting. Whilst the discussions are being kept high level at the moment, it is not known if the Spelunkers want to close any deals prior to the trade period starting, or are just getting together their list of targets and determining their order of ranking so they can hit the window early and hard. Bandit has also gone on the record to state that he has not approached Darraweit or Foul Bay as yet, as he does not want to distract the teams from the big Grand Final this weekend.
Charlie's Opening are actively on the lookout for another midfielder and a key ruckman, but also have a number of defenders and forwards on their list of potential targets.
This is likely to cause a stir in the other ORFFA clubs, and soon agents will be knocking on the doors of the other coaches asking if their players are on the hit list or not.

OK, thought it would benefit you guys by knowing how I perceive the value of my players, and thought the best way of doing that was to put up my version of the depth chart.
All players are on the table, however the higher they are on the depth chart for the given position, the higher I value them, and that should serve as an indicator as to how good the offer would need to be for me to agree to the deal. Be warned though, it will take a miracle for Jack (Ablett, plus Pick 1, plus a packet of potato chips, plus a packet of burger rings)
Def [span style='text-decoration: line-through;]Heath Shaw Andrew Mackie, Ben Reid Cale Hooker, Shaun Atley Jackson Thurlow Phil Davis, Eric MacKenzie
Mid Kieren Jack Andrew Swallow Stephen Hill, Daniel Jackson, Leigh Montagna Shane Savage Joshua Simpson, Marco Paparone Liam Picken
Fwd Jack Gunston Drew Petrie, Sam Reid Mark LeCras, Lachie Hansen Sam Rowe, Marco Paparone [span style='text-decoration: line-through;]Josh Hill Terry Milera
Ruck Jonathan Giles Sam Rowe Sam Grimley Jarrad Redden
I'm looking for a 90pt midfielder and a 90pt ruckman… all draft picks are on the table as well, including my first round. Message me if anything takes your fancy

[span style='color: #ff0000;]Charlie's Opening welcome some new blood to The Pit, pie sale forecasts plummet [span style='color: #ff0000;]
Charlie's Opening are delighted to welcome three new players to the club at the conclusion of the end of year trade period.
Josh Thomas At 21 years old, 176cm and 77kg, Josh is a promising midfielder who joins us from Foul Bay. A hard-at-it midfielder who thrives on winning the contested ball, he is a ball magnet and a tackling machine around the stoppages, and has a handy turn of speed over the first 15 metres. There are some risks with taking on Thomas however, namely being the leg and foot injuries he has sustained in the past. It is hoped however that the thermal springs at our training and recovery centre will be the curing salve, and Josh will be looking to stay out of the medical room and on the park in 2014.
Danyle Pearce The former NAB Rising Star and Foul bay player will add pace and skill to the Spelunker's midfield in 2014. His presence will help to free up Stephen Hill, with the pair looking to forge a strong bond in the midfield. In his speech at the media conference where he was unveiled to the Spelunkers faithful, , Pearce said 'My kneecaps were shaking' and 'I loved the free food'. It was hoped that the party pie budget for this year could be slashed with the departure of Heath Shaw, however it appears contract negotiations with pastry vendors need to be restarted.
Majak Daw An absolute beast at 195cm and 94kg… the Sudanese sensation had the WAGs all chatter at the press conference. He has an impressive rig and is not afraid to show it off… needless to say the skin fold tests of the rest of the Spelunkers players are rumoured to be dropping sharply now there is more competition. Daw will bring further flexibility to the Spelunkers unit, allowing Sam Rowe and Jon Giles a bit more freedom around the ground.
The Spelunkers also say farewell to Heath Shaw and Josh Hill. Shaw has been outstanding for the club, playing 29 games, averaging a tick under 100 points per game. His last game was probably his most disappointing, with a very ordinary 37 against Darraweit Guim in the finals. We wish him well at Foul Bay.
Hill has decided Lilac is a much nicer colour and moved to Lovely Banks as part of the Majak Daw deal. It is hoped that Hill finds some consistency for Jen, as his 26 games for the Spelunkers netted him a 70 average, with high scores of 107 and 123 being soured by 11 scores under 50 and an insipid performances in the final of just 8.

The starting back 4 are Reid, Mackie, Hooker and Atley, with Pearce, Davis and MacKenzie all regular reliable players to fill in a breach if needed. With an outside chance of Ben Reid getting D/F eligibility, one of those three may be called up to play D4. The most exciting prospect however is Jackson Thurlow... with Josh Hunt being released at the Cattery it is expected that Thurlow will get more game time this year as the rebounding defender... time will tell. <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;] <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;]Midfield:Andrew Swallow rupturing an achilles has put paid to his season for 2014, and as such has weakened the midfield. Jack, Montagna, Hill and Jackson will be the nucleus, with new signings Thomas and Pearce supporting Savage as backup/bench players. Picken will have to do a lot over the preseason to retain his spot, with 1st round picks Paparone and Simpson looking to get some game times for their sides in 2014. <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;] <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;]Ruck:Even though the Spelunkers have 5 ruckmen, this remains the weakest part of the side. With Mumford moving into Giles' patch, it remains to be seen what impact this will have on his scoring next year. The departure of Max Bailey from the Hawks might give long term project Sam Grimley a chance, although Longer may end that before it even began. Saw Rowe and recruit Majak Daw will look to build on this year, with Jarrad Redden looking to claim the number one ruck spot at Port... fitness permitting. As it stands the Spelunkers have a number of 'potential' ruckman, but no out and out standout starter. <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;] <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;]Forward:The forward line is imposing, and could go bang in 2014. With Drew Petrie looking to pick up 2014 where he left off in 2013, shouldabeen Norm Smith medallist Jack Gunston looking to thrive in the void left by Franklin's departure, Sam Reid coming back from injury and now being 3rd forward and LeCras and Hansen (sneaky chance to me D/F) fighting it out for F4, the problems are good ones to have. Throw in Paparone, Sam Rowe and Josh Simpson and things are looking good for the future. Terry Milera will be on the scrap heap unless someone wants to draft him. <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;] <p style='margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000;]Draft:The upcoming draft will see Charlie's Opening have picks#15, #16, #29, #33, #87.Bandit will be after a quality mid/fwd, and ideally another gun midfielder with his two 1st round picks. Four players will be delisted, with a raft of players right to be feeling shaky at this point in time. The Spelunkers are not planning on being very active in the pre-season draft, although they will respond to any proposals that come their way.

The 2014 season is fast approaching and I don't think we'll have time to make public any of the finer details of our end-of-season review. Basically, after finishing 9th, we had to have a serious assessment of our list carried out to predict which way we were headed on the ladder. It was ultimately decided we may have had the list to make the finals, but we were not consistent enough to match it with the best in the comp. So we made the decision to have a bit of a cleanup around the place. On top of the extra rubbish bins around the ground, we'll be saying goodbye to a significant number of prominent players. Already, we've traded out Mitch Clark in the last trade period, and we've got another trade period in progress now. I'll wait until its concluded before updating the comings and goings of it. Early next week, we'll be announcing any delisted players before the PreSeason Draft. And before then, we've organised a practice match against Charlie's Opening this weekend. the match will be held in Sydney and we hope a lot of Gariwerd supporters will make the trip, as there will be a number of new players practicing our famous Marn Grook style and a number of players who will be hoping to impress before delistment time. I think Eminem will be providing some entertainment at the game. We'll be back in a few days to announce the results of the current trade period, but will announce the teams for the weekends match tomorrow. We can now announce the lineup for this weekend's practice game against Charlies Opening. Given we havent announced our trades yet from the current trade period, there may be a few names in there which will surprise some. Def: Nicholson; Guthrie; Stratton; Hurn (VC) Mid: Hutchings; Stevens (C); Hunt; Toumpas Ruck: Hickey Fwd: Blease; McKernan; Christensen; Sylvia Int: Deledio; Casboult notes: * A couple of new names in Hutchings and Hickey * Deledio is on the bench after his BoG performance from this position late last season * Cooney is being rested after his end of season minor surgery last year * The ommission of Captain Shaun Burgoyne is sure to raise eyebrows * New recruits Dan Nicholson and Cam Guthrie both play their first games for Gariwerd * A number of fringe players get their chance to stake their claim on a list spot in the leadup to the delistment period.

We've turned up as planned, but it seems our opponents may have forgotten.
