    In an intense battle that ebbed and flowed Cradle Mountain were able to get a thrilling nine point victory on the road against Whitsunday Warriors 1,217 to 1,208. When the 2014 Round 1 fixture was announced with Whitsunday, the 13th placed finisher from 2013 hosting the 12th placed finisher from last season, Cradle Mountain, it was widely expected to be a close, hard fought match and it well and truly lived up to pre-game expectations.

    The two best players on the ground were both midfielders being Whitsunday Warriors duo, Oliver Wines (145) and Michael Barlow (132), however the Devils midfield showed greater consistency than the Warriors to each score at least 82, allowing the Devils to win the midfield battle by the smallest of margins 439 to 438.


    The Whitsunday Warriors defense easily accounted for the Cradle Mountain forwards 340 to 250. Whilst the first and second players on each line had a close battle with Warriors defender Grant Birchall (120) and Cradle Mountain forward Dayne Zorko (120) both featuring in the Les W. Medal votes, the Devils third and fourth forwards Ben Kennedy and debutant Jay Kennedy-Harris were well held. Warrior Jeremy Laidler came into the side as a late replacement for Michael Talia and looked right at home in defense during his club debut to score 95 points and be the Warriors fifth best player in their season opener.

    The Cradle Mountain defense marginally took the honours against the Whitsunday forwards 268 to 223 with John Butcher being the top scoring Whitsunday forward with 65 and each Cradle Mountain defender scoring between 58 and 74.
    Cradle Mountain interchange players David Zaharakis and Shaun Grigg combined for 159 points to have slightly more impact than Whitsunday Warriors counterparts Robert Warnock and Mitch Grigg who scored 131 points between them. Devil Shaun narrowly winning the battle of the Griggs' against Whitsunday's Mitch in the second interchange spot 74 points to 67. Cradle Mountain ruckman Trent West played one of the best games of his career to score 100 points and defeat higher fancied Warrior Matthew Lobbe by 24 points. West performed brilliantly in the ruck, however it was his ability to push forward to be a marking target in attack and kick three goals that ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides. The Cradle Mountain playing group led by captain Scott Pendlebury have introduced a Players Award to be voted on by all 15 players of the team and awarded after each match to the Devil that does the best job in performing their specific role for the club in that match. Unsurprisingly Trent West was the overwhelming winner, being a unanimous selection, players are allowed to vote for themselves and West unashamedly did just this, in the rooms after the match West said At the end of last season I was close to being delisted, I am very thankful that Cradle Mountain gave me another opportunity and that I could repay some of their faith today. I don't know what it is about playing at Whitsunday but during the match things just went in slow motion and it felt as though the match lasted 10 days not three hours. I was able to get in the zone and everything went right for me, it was as much a surprise to me to play a match winning role and kick three goals as it was to everyone else. I don't expect it to become a regular occurrence so I must admit I had no hesitation in voting for myself in the Players Award. A couple of my team-mates wanted to chair me off the ground but I had to put a quick stop to that as that would have been going over the top.&amp;rdquo;
    Cradle Mountain were relieved to get the thrilling victory over Whitsunday and were pleased with a more consistent team effort with 13 of the 15 players scoring at least 55 points, with the only exceptions being forwards three and four. These two positions remain a headache, and the match committee are considering several options including playing players out of position in these two spots against Darraweit.

    We watched with much admiration last season as a young Darraweit Guim side made a meteoric rise to be a Grand Finalist against the all conquering Foul Bay, and look forward to hosting Darraweit in Round 2 and finding out how we stack up against them.

    The Cradle Mountain match committee of Dean Andrews, Jude Bolton and Brad Green discuss and submit the best and fairest votes after each Devils match. The B & F votes for the first seven rounds of 2014 will be announced at Cradle Mountain's mid-season function, during which new mid-season recruit(s) will also be welcomed to the club.

    <p style='margin-bottom: 0pt;]Darraweit won an entertaining free flowing match on the road against Cradle Mountain by 162 points with three phenomenal individual performances that are going to be very hard to top in the one match this season. Devils captain Pendlebury lifts his team back into the contest after a quiet first quarter to score 182 - his most ever in his two and a bit seasons as a Devil. With very little support in the forward line Dayne Zorko at 174cm puts on a show to score a brilliant 161 and at thisearly stage of the season is ranked fifth in the ORFFA for points per game with his captain Pendlebury leading the league in this category. Cradle Mountain easily won the midfield battle against Darrawei by 108 points, however a more consistent performance by the Guim see them win every other line by at least 45 points and record a massive score of 431 inspired by veteran Brent Harvey's best performance in the ORFFA - 169. Whilst Cradle Mountain have a trio of superstar performances with Pendles, Zorko and Stevie J each scoring at least 145 they don't have enough support with Redden the only other ton. Darraweit on the other hand had an incredibly consistent performance across the board with only two 100+, but seven more tons between 100 and 109 and only two scores below 75, 67 and 73 which is fantastic for your weakest duo. Dayne Zorko and Scott Pendlebury tied for the Players Award with seven votes, Steve Johnson received the remaining vote. At the after-match press conference Zorko said. Forward and midfield coach Jude Bolton has shown a great deal of confidence in me by allowing me to take over Stevie J's role from last season, being the number 1 forward but also having some bursts in the midfield. I'm relishing the responsibility and the opportunity to play in both positions which has contributed to my career best form. It's our third season in the ORFFA and we are yet to finish in the top 8, I am just focussed on performing my role for Cradle Mountain and contributing to us making the finals this season. All credit to the Guim today they are a quality side, Grand Finalist from last season and don't let up with brilliant team-work and no weak links in the side. Whilst we didn't get the win today I am confident that if we maintain this level of performance week in and week out we will be finalists this season.'

    You Am I got the day off to a great start with their pre pre-game set and young children enjoyed seeing the Tasmanian Devil mascot wandering around the ground and interacting with the crowd. A Devil of another kind also joined in proceedings, the Red Devil who follows the Tour De France flew out especially to watch the Cradle Mountain Devils in action and was enjoying himself so much that much to the bemusement of the band he joined You Am I on stage halfway through set closer &amp;lsquo;Who put the Devil in You' and contributed with some backing vocals. As it turned out the pre-match entertainment was the highlight of Cradle Mountain's day.

    On match day three Cradle Mountain players suffered injuries including one that wasn't even in the 15 man team. Nick Vlastuin suffered concussion in the second quarter whilst Dayne Zorko was hampered after being met with a very solid bump. To maintain match conditioning emergency Sam Gilbert was doing some training drills on the ground after the match and re-injured his left foot, he is expected to be out until after the mid-season break.

    Iron Knob had far more class against home team Cradle Mountain to comprehensively defeat the Devils by 430 points. Cradle Mountain won the midfield battle for the third week in a row, however the forward line and defense were each demolished by more than 150 points.

    GAJ led the way scoring a superb 182 whilst six of his Iron Knob team-mates also scored tons, with Jack Riewoldt second best with 125 points, playing a brilliant second half after being well held in the first half. Only three Devils scored tons, vice captain Redden with 121, captain Pendlebury with 115 and Heppell with 114. Five Devils scored under 50, with one of these scores being due to Nick Smith being played as an out of position forward.

    In the first two seasons of the ORRFA very little has separated Cradle Mountain and Venus Bay and the two clubs finished both seasons within a few positions of each other on the ladder. 2014 Is shaping as no different, in Round 5 the seventh placed Cradle Mountain hosted eighth placed Venus Bay, both teams had recorded two wins and two losses with the Devils being higher on the ladder due to a narrow advantage in points scored, 4,846 to the Vultures 4,831.

    The three battles with four player lines were extremely tight, with the Vultures winning each line battle by less than 11 points, their forwards winning by four points 329 to 325, their defenders by a solitary point 299 to 298, and for the first time this season the Cradle Mountain midfield were beaten with the Vultures taking the honours 457 to 447.

    Ultimately the difference in the two teams was Venus Bay being forced to play 189 centimetre midfielder Clinton Young out of position in the ruck and his team-mate Xavier Ellis suffering a calf injury in the opening minutes of the first quarter after starting the match on the interchange bench. Cradle Mountain ruckman Trent West won the ruck by 52, 77 to Young's 25 (50/2 OOP) and the Devils took advantage of Ellis's injury to win the interchange line 149 to 87.

    Cradle Mountain won the match by 99 points, 1,296 to 1,197, Venus Bay effectively restricted to 13.5 players due to the Ellis injury and Young OOP remained in the contest until the 30th player Steve Johnson took the field, needing only 43 points to get the win Stevie J set his sights on another target - the 5 Les W. Medal votes, needing a score of 134 he did just enough to get the maximum votes by scoring 141 points. Johnson is the only player in the competition to be best afield in the ORFFA for both Round 4 and Round 5 to take his tally to 12 Les W. Medal votes, and inside the top 10, one vote behind his captain Scott Pendlebury.

    The Devils and Vultures bothhad midfielders 1 to 3 score between 121 and 141 and midfielder 4 register a disappointing sub 75 score. Going head to head with Pendlebury, Les W. Medal leader Venus Bay's Dayne Beams missed getting in the votes by the narrowest of margins losing a tie breaker due to Jack Redden from the Devils also scoring 121. Vulture midfielders Mundy (134) and Gibbs (131) received 4 and 3 votes respectively with Mundy continuing his impressive early season form to take his tally to 9 votes, ranked second at Venus Bay behind Beams' 16 votes. Cradle Mountain two-time B & F winner Pendlebury (128) was in the votes for the fourth time this season, polling two votes to take his tally to 13.

    Both teams had one non-midfielder, a defenderscore 100, Venus Bay with Malceski (102) and the Devils with Gwilt (100).

    Updates on the four Devils who have contracts expiring during the 2014 mid-season break.
    Four Cradle Mountain players commenced the season with contracts that expired during the 2014 Mid-season break. All four players had a clause in their contract that if they played at least three games in the first seven rounds of the 2014 ORFFA Home and Away season they would get an automatic contract extension until the end of the 2014 season. An update on how these four players have performed during the first five rounds of the 2014 season and their current contractual position is provided below:

    Nick Smith
    After being named an emergency for the first two rounds 25 year-old defender Nick Smith has played the last three matches in the ORFFA, Round 3 as an out of position forward and Rounds 4 and 5 in his preferred position as a defender. In his three games for Cradle Mountain in 2014 Smith has been very consistent, averaging 74 points and scoring at least 66 in each game to be the Devils third ranked defender behind James Gwilt and Dustin Fletcher. We are pleased to announce that by playing three matches before the 2014 mid-season break Smith has automatically had his contract with Cradle Mountain extended to the end of the 2014 season.

    [span style='color: #333333;]In Round 5 against Venus Bay Schneider impressed during his first match in the ORRFA since Round 2 2013, having 22 disposals, four inside 50s, four tackles, a goal assist and kicking two goals to score 85 points. We were disappointed with 29 year-old Schneider in his come-back match getting suspended for one match meaning he will miss Round 6 against Larrikin Lagoon, fitness permitting he will return to the Cradle Mountain side for Round 7 against Marble Bar. Schneider will play a maximum of two games before the 2014 mid-season break meaning he doesn't trigger the automatic contract extension, however, given the lack of experienced players in the Cradle Mountain forward line he is almost certain to be offered a contract extension to the end of the 2014 season during the mid-season break.

The two players have a similar playing style as medium forwards with their greatest strength being their accurate and penetrating kicking. Membrey at 19 years of age is yet to make his ORFFA debut whilst 21 year-old Siposs was selected by the Devils at the inaugural ORFFA draft in 2012 and played some senior football in both of his first two seasons with Cradle Mountain.

    [span style='color: #333333;]Membrey and Siposs are the only two medium forwards at 188 cm and 189 cm respectively in the Devils 10 man forward line squad, along with five small forwards and three tall forwards, ideally Cradle Mountain would like to have at least one medium forward in the squad for the second half of the 2014 season so a spot is still up for grabs if in the weeks before the draft Membrey or Siposs show that they will be able to challenge for a spot in the Devils 15 man-team during the second half of the season.At least one of Membrey and Siposswill be delisted or traded during the mid-season period with Cradle Mountain looking to recruit a more experienced forward.

The Devils midfield were dominant with all four scoring tons to combine for 473 points to the Lefties 380, three Cradle Mountain midfielders featured in the votes, Pendlebury (124), Heppell (120) and Redden (119), with the latter receiving one voteby winning a tie-breaker for the second week in a row, this time against Lefties midfielder Matt Priddis. Up until this week Priddis had the best record in the ORRFA of winning tie-breaks, having won three this season against his team-mates. The Devils have some work to do in the forward line, losing this line by 86 points 334 to 248, and will welcome the return of Adam Schneider from suspension this week. In previous seasons the Devils have had a poor record in close games, but have shown greater composure or had more luck (take your pick) this year to win games by 10 points, 37points and 99 points, benefitting in the last two games from the oppostion not being able to field 15 in position players. Whilst Cradle Mountain didn't have anyscores above 125 it was very pleasing to have six players score tons, the four midfielders, Zorko and West beating the club's previos season best of five tonsin Round 1.

    [span style='color: #333333;]Two Cradle Mountain mid-sized forwards Arryn Siposs and Tim Membrey are likely to be delisted if they are not traded during the mid-season trade period.

    In an attempt to better balance the squad Cradle Mountain are looking to recruit at least one experienced forward during the 2014 mid-season period. Options for the recruitment of forward(s) are during the mid-season draft or by a trade.

    Cradle Mountain have got depth in the midfield and defense and are willing to trade a player from one of these lines for an experienced forward. In terms of trading for a forward the Devils want to keep their Round 1 2015 PSD pick, but all other PSD and MSD draft picks are open for discussion.

    For the third week in a rowthe Cradle Mountain Devils have recorded a victory, assisted by their opponent being unable to field 15 in-position players. In Round 7 Marble Bar had a 13 man team with no-one on the interchange, whilst they were able to push Cradle Mountain for a while, not being able to rotate players off the ground told against the Misfits in the end with the Devils kicking away in the final quarter to win by 237 points.

    The four lines in which Marble Bar fielded their full complement of players were tightly contested with Marble Bar winning the ruck by 24 points and their defenders beating Cradle Mountains forwards by seven points. The Devils midfield won by 14 points and their defenders won the battle against the Misfits forwards by 40 points. Cradle Mountain took full advantage of the Devils having no interchange players by scoring a Devils season best 214 on this line.

    Three Misfits scored tons, midfielder Callan Ward with 145 to receive the 5 Les W. Medal votes, ruckman Patrick Ryder with 106, and ex Devil Devon Smith with 101 to reinforce that Cradle Mountain could have really used his services in the forward line during 2014.

    It is not a surprise that four Cradle Mountain players received Les W. Medal votes for the win against Marble Bar but which Devils featured in the votes is surprising. In the first six rounds six Cradle Mountain players had received at least one vote, the four starting midfielders Pendlebury, Johnson, Heppell, and Redden, as well as the number one forward and ruckman, Zorko and Wset respectively. Only one of these players was in the Round 7 votes, Stevie J, with 4 votes, he was joined in the votes by the other two Devils in their 30's, Mark Jamar and Dustin Fletcher, with first year forward Jay Kennedy-Harris receiving the one vote, the first of his career.

    Players Award - Dustin Fletcher

    Several players received votes for the Round 7 Players award with defender Dustin Fletcher narrowly winning from Mark Jamar and JKH. Remarkably, Fletcher who celebrates his 39th birthday today is Cradle Mountain's number one defender in 2014 despite being at least a decade older than all other defenders at the club. Cradle Mountain are ecstatic with the job that Fletcher is doing in the dual roles as assistant coach for the backline and player, it is his call on whether he plays on next season but the Devils are hopeful thathe willplay on next year into his 40s.

    2014 Mid-season period

    Two players were delisted by Cradle Mountain during the mid-season trade period, medium forwards Tim Membrey and Arryn Siposs.

    Membrey was recruited at the 2013 expansion draft and didn't play a game in the seniors during his year at Cradle Mountain, however his form improved in the Tasmanian Regional Football League.

    Siposs was selected by Cradle Mountain with their penultimate selection at the inaugural ORFFA draft in 2012, whilst he was never able to cement a position in the best 15 he did play senior games in 2012 and 2013. Siposs has been provided with a second chance in the ORRFA, being selected by the Wagga Wagga Wombats with pick 38.

    We wish Arryn and Tim all the best for the rest of their football careers.

    Cradle Mountain's selections at the 2014 ORFFA Mid-Season Draft:

    Jamie Cripps, Forward, 22 years old, selected with pick 13

    With our first mid-season draft selection we wanted a young forward who could slot straight into Cradle Mountains best 15 and selected small forward Jamie Cripps. After making his AFL debut for St Kilda in 2011 and playing 16 games over two seasons with the Saints Cripps joined West Coast in November 2012. After battling to cement his place in the Eagles side Cripps has played every game in the seniors from Round 15 2013 onwards, with his strengths being the pressure he applies and his accuracy around goal. Given that the Devils played an out of position forward in three of their first seven games this season Cripps adds much needed depth to the forward line. Jamie Cripps will make his debut for the Devils in Round 8, wearing jumper number 35.

    Tyson Goldsack, Defender, 27 years old, selected with pick 31

    Throughout his career with Collingwood in the AFL Tyson Goldsack has been utilised as a &amp;lsquo;Mr Fix it', switching between the forward line and defense depending on where he is needed more and opposition match-ups. Cradle Mountain anticipate using him in the same way over the next couple of years, however he will be given the opportunity to settle in defense for the remainder of the 2014 season, instantly providing coverage for injured defenders, Gwilt, Vlastuin and Gilbert.

    For 2015 Cradle Mountain plan to switch Goldsack to the forward line with Hurley swapping lines with him to play as a key defender. Goldsack made his AFL debut in 2007 and will add some much needed experience to the Devils forward line next year. Goldsack's strengths are his kicking, versatility and reading of the play to gain intercept possessions. Tyson Goldsack will make his debut for the Devils in Round 8, wearing jumper number 6.

    A look back at the Cradle Mountain selections at the inaugural ORFFA draft in 2012


    During the 2014 mid-season Cradle Mountain had a look back at their 26 selections at the inaugural ORFFA draft in 2012. Of the 26 players selected 14 remain at the Devils after the 2014 mid-season period, however there is a distinct pattern on where these 14 players were selected. 13 of the first 14 selections remain at Cradle Mountain, the exception being Round 2 selection Dale Thomas who was traded to Nunawading in the pre-season period earlier this year for positional balance.

    Round 15 selection Jude Bolton was a critical player during our first two seasons , living up to expectations, and then becoming the Assistant Coach for the forward line and midfield as planned so this selection was a successful one.

    The picks from Round 16 to 26 was far more speculative than our selections in the first 15 rounds, even given this you would expect far more than just one of the last 11 selections to be at Cradle Mountain two and a half years later, but this is what has eventuated, with Round 19 selection Dayne Zorko being the only player selected form Round 15 onwards still on the Devils list.

    The two best value selections for the Devils were Dayne Zorko in Round 19 and Steve Johnson in Round 6. Zorko is easily the club's best performed forward in 2014 and has been in the best performed half dozen overall for CMD in 2013 and 2014. Steve Johnson has made the transition from elusive half-forward to star midfielder, averaging 115 points per game in 2013-2014.

    Mid-season function


    The 2014 Cradle Mountain mid-season function which included the counting of the best and fairest votes for the first 7 Rounds was held on Saturday May 24. We will reveal now that five of the top six from the 2013 best and fairest are again in the top six at the mid-way point of 2014, being (in 2013 order) Scott Pendlebury, Jack Reddedn, Steve Johnson, Dyson Heppell and David Zorko. The new member of the top six is ruckman Trent West. Full details of the round by round voting for the first 7 Rounds will be provided in the next couple of days.

    Pendlebury is well placed for his third Cradle Mountain B & F in a row. The remaining top five players Johnson, Zorko, Heppell and Reddenall finished in the top six last year, ruckman Trent West has impressed during 2014 and is in sixth place.

    Several Cradle Mountain players and coaches made speeches during the night and Steve Johnson revealed that at the end of the 2013 season he took the unusual step of signing a one year contract for 2014 on the minimum base salary but has many incentive clauses, Stevie J commented During 2013 I copped a couple of bakes from the Match Committee for being suspended twice during the season and was challenged to eliminate these undisciplined acts from my game. At the end of the season I asked for the minimum contract but had many incentive clauses for games played, B & F Result, points per game etc. At the moment I am very happy with this decision as I have played all seven games in the ORFFA and am playing some of the best football of my career, more importantly the club is challenging strongly to finish in the top eight for the first time.&amp;rdquo;

    Cradle Mountain won a club record four games a row from Round 4 to Round 7 this season and have got an increased focus on the present for the second half of the season after focusing more on the future during their first two and a half seasons.

    Cradle Mountain travelled to Nunawading and lost a thrilling Round 8 match by 24 points, 1,173 points to 1,197. The two sides were evenly matched all over the ground with each line decided by less than 50 points. The Devils won the midfield as they usually do, taking this line out by 44 points 423 to 379, however Nunawading won the other four lines to get home in a nailbiter.

    The lowlight of the match for the Devils was ruckman Trent West suffering a serious knee injury in the second quarter, tests later on revealed that he requires a knee reconstruction and will be out for the rest of the season. West had played all seven matches up until the mid-season break as the Devils number one ruckman and scored less than 75 only once to be sixth in the B & F after Round 7.

    Both sides had four players that scored tonnes Nunawading with defenders Simpson (112), Broadbent (114), midfielder Kennedy (115) and forward Dixon (101). Whilst Cradle Mountain had midfielders Redden (125), Pendlebury (113), forward Zorko (131) and 39 year-old defender Dustin Fletcher (120) who won his second Players Award in a row.

    Whilst Fletcher was outstanding the Devils didn't have as much run as usual from the remaining three defenders with all scoring under 55. Nuffers forwards Dixon and Palmer (83) posed trouble for CMD and were pivotal in the Nunawading forwards outscoring the Cradle Mountain defenders by 35 points, 294 to 259.

    Cradle Mountain returned to their 2013 ways and the four players named above were the only ones that received B & F votes as too much was left to too few. Three players scored under 50 and another four scored between 50 and 74 as the Devils recorded their second lowest score of the season and brought a four game winning streak to an end.

    Cradle Mountain won a low scoring game against Powlett Plains 1,124 to 1,012 with the performance of the Devils six midfielders, comprised of the four starting players and two interchange players setting up the victory by combining for 640 points between them compared to the Packers 468 for these two lines.

    The Devils had the best four players on the ground, in his return to theteam Zaharakiswas best afield scoring 142 points after starting on the bench, other vote-getters were Redden (128), Pendlebury (112), and Zorko (110) with Powlett Plains Round 2 mid-season draft pick getting the single vote with 102.​​​​

    Powlett Plains won the ruck by 16 points and both defences had the better of the oppositions forwards with the Packers defense winning by 64 points and the Cradle Mountain defense winning by 29 points.

    In the two rounds since the mid-season break the Cradle Mountain Devils have recorded their second and third lowest scores of the season. In order to maintain their position in the top eight they will need to quickly recapture the form they had before the mid-season break.

    Sixth placed Charlie's Opening hosted seventh placed Cradle Mountain with sixth place and Tasmanian bragging rights up for grabs.The two sides were very evenly matched in three lines, the battle between the Cradle Mountain defence and Charlies Opening forwards was won by the home side by 11 points whilst the visiting Devils won the midfield and interchange lines by 11 and 10 points respectively.

    The Devils forward line superbly led by Zorko with 159 points defeated the Charlies Opening defense by 69 points 350 to 281. Mark Jamar was able to gain the ascendancy in the ruck for the Devils scoring 120 points opposed to 19 points from Charlies Opening out of position ruckman Ben Reid in his first ORFFA game of the season.

    Cradle Mountain defeated their rival Tasmania team Charlie's Opening by 180 points and in the process the Devils have secured their first top eight finish in the ORFFA. Cradle Mountain and Charlies Opening are both on 10 wins and five losses, three games ahead of three teams on seven wins, the Devils have moved up sixth place due to their superior points for.

    At the start of the season Cradle Mountain had two main objectives, 1) make the finals and 2) provide several players under 22 with a taste of senior ORFFA football which would assist with their development
    Cradle Mountain are delighted to achieve both these aims and have exceeded expectations in securing a finals berth with two rounds remaining in the 2014 season.

    In Cradle Mountain's final away game for the season they travelled to Gundagai and started as red-hot favourites given that they had already secured a finals berth and the Grasshoppers were on the bottom of the ORFFA ladder.

    In his last home game the Grasshopper's spiritual leader Lenny Hayes was superb, delivering a dominant best afield performance with his season best score of 155, easily surpassing his previous best of 128 points in both Round 5 and Round 15. Inspired by the heroics of Hayes his fellow Grasshoppers defied their ladder position to play skilful intense football to easily account for Cradle Mountain by 157 points, 1,321 to 1,164, and in the process win their second game for the season.

    Cradle Mountain had one of their most consistent games of the season, however, unfortunately it was a consistent sub-par game with nine players scoring between 50 and 74 points. Only five Devils received best and fairest votes with Liam Shiels and Michael Hurley sharing the Cradle Mountain Players Award after scoring 130 and 124 points respectively and featuring at the lower end of the Les W Medal votes.

    The Cradle Mountain midfield, a strength all season were comprehensively beaten, only managing 338 points comprised of a pair of 108's from Pendlebury and Heppell, and a pair of 61's from Johnson and Zaharakis. Gundagai's midfield managed a massive 481 points to convincingly win this line by 143 points, including three tons from Hayes, Neale (143) and Rockliff (113).

    Each Cradle Mountain defender scored between 61 and 74 to combine for 267 points, outscoring the Gundagai forwards by 48 points, Sam Dwyer was the standout Grasshopper forward with 94 points.

    In a high quality ruck dual Giant grasshopper Aaron Sandilands outscored Devils counterpart Mark Jamar 137 points to 92 to receive the 3 Les W Medal votes. Gundagai's interchange led by Taylor Adeams with 109 points scored 203 to narrowly beat Cradle Mountain's line tally of 200 with Liam Shiels scoring a team-best 130.

    Cradle Mountain's forwards led by Michael Hurley combined for 267 points, the exact same tally as the Devils defensive line, however the CM forwards were unable to win the line battle against the Gundagai defense, losing this line by 14 points.

    Cradle Mountain's form has dropped away as the season has progressed, only scoring below 1,200 once in the seven rounds before the mid-season break, they have fallen short of this mark in five of their nine games since the break. Significant improvement is needed with the finals only a fortnight away, with a score of more than 1,300 needed to be at least competitive come finals time.
