    Its a tough call.

I would say Harris - just - gets on the field. Swallow will be a star, but his pre season scores have been a little down (mainly due to a GAJ-less midfield I think) and Harris has played before.

I'm with you, Nick. Harris is a definate starter for my team. People are talking up Swallow as a keeper for this year but I'm not so sure. Harris most likely, yes but unless things change I'll be looking to upgrade Swallow when he hits his peak price.

Yes I had a feeling Harris , always like the mature age players, if I play both it probs mean Heppell is benched which is possible

If you got Swallow from the start with his inflated price then surely you planned on starting him on-field? If not then its fair amount change to be on the pine and surely there was better options As a cash cow, especially given you could save 80-90K and get a cheaper rookie.. People are saying their worried about his preseason form yet they still purchased him??

It all depends on your team structure. If you have M/F and M/D DPP, then you have to work out if it is worth swapping Goddard/Gibbs or Pav/Goodes/Krak for example to the mids to allow one more fwd/def rookie to play, or leave as is and play Swallow.

Just have to weigh up whether you think types Darling/Tapscott/Lower/Duigan will score more than Swallow.

if Swallow turns out to be as good as predictions (being compared to Judd, Cousins and J.Selwood in first year is not bad) ... is 188K really an inflated price ?

personally I have both in mids ... Swallow will start and Harro emerg or bye-coverage.

I am a North supporter and if Harro plays like he did at teh kangas, he will get a heap of it ... but will be more turn-overs than a Sara-Lee factory.

Harris is a dream team specialist.

I think it will be Swallow in, Harris emerg this week.

I'm in agreement with Lucas on this one.

I didn't fork out the extra 70k to have Swallow sitting on the pine as simply a cash cow - I would have used the 70k elsewhere if that was the case.

Swallow was purchased to start on the field and for his ability to hopefully outscore some of the other midfield rookies who will be floating around the 50-60 mark.

While his preseason scores may not have been great (neither were Harris' mind you), surely having Gazza in the side will help him out immensely, as will the rest of the senior players as the GC see more of the ball.

I am going Harris, but it is a tough decision.

don't agree with some of the others about better value mid field alternatives to Swallow - I reckon there was a very limited pool of other midfield rookies with the JS and scoring potential of Swallow - the extra 70-80k spent therefore represents value imo, and makes him an equally good pine warming cash cow option.

Yeah it's actually a dilemma in DT, they are both on the field in my SC, and with putting Heppell in the midfield due to trying to find a spot on the ground for both Lower and Tapscott in the fwds and backs respectively i find myself with possibly one of these players sitting on the bench.

In DT started with 4 premium mids and with some MPP swapping this is how i have come up with this problem.

Also with Swallow being 188k he is a cow and might score then Harris over the stretch just want to maximise my points this round

When you guys are only picking one of them who is that other 'rookie' taking swallows/harris place?

Both really should pump out a score of over 80 this weekend.

At this stage and in my case Heppell will be moved to my back line and andy otten to the bench which will allow harris on the field.

Also Libba bench and Swallow on field

My issue revolves around which one (if any) of them to bench to allow Pav/Goodes to swing into the midfield to allow Tapscott onto the field.

Which infers the question, who do you think will score more?

    Swallow, Harris or Tapscott?

As above Harris is in for me.

I'm also interested to note that Meataxe didn't select D.Swallow and only has one Top 10 Draft pick rookie in Dyson Heppell.

Either astute rookie selections or the luck of the Irish. Jonathon "Meataxe" O'Toole maybe. ;)

does anybody have any knowledge of how harris is going to be used?

my understanding was he is likely to be a tagger given the number of GC midfielders with a lot better disposal

    swallow >>> harris for me

I have them both in this week with the fire Krakour moving into the forward line to make room... I'm expecting Harris will do most of the scoring he has a point to prove and young Swallow will have some first game nerves to battle...

I don't see any solid reason for taking one over the other, you might as well flip a coin and see what happens.

I reckon Harris, you only had to watch Conca last week to see first game nerves play a bit of a role in producing a few clangers in the first half especially.

Harris will be calmer and more settled with the ball.

Mind you come round 2 or 3 Swallow may be a better start.

Personally I am starting both :)

Don't think people should just put D. Swallow in because they spent more money on him. The additional money is a sunk cost and shouldn't come into consideration. The only consideration is who you think will score more.

So my pick is Harris, since I didn't select Swallow.

Actually, it looks like Heppell is my only pick from the entire 1st round!

To be sure, I was reading the bottom of my beer glass during St Paddy's day and it told me no Swallow! Now where is my four-leaf clover...
