Agree mate - and in the end, you can do what Kobe does and blame Pau Gasol for the loss. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2012/5/20/3032319/kobe-bryant-blames-pau-gasol-lakers-thunder-game-4
Haha. That's pretty much why I chose that pic. You can just imagine him saying: "Well, we all know it ain't my fault!"
Well, we all know it is my fault. . <img src="http://tooserious.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/33745-daniel_merrett.jpg" />
The undefeated Dirigibles are off to Powlett Plains this week to play the Packers. After a lucky escape last week at Birdville, the Guim hit the road again, giving our groundskeeper more time to turn our home ground into the next Moorabbin Oval. Poor Dylan Grimes couldn't be considered for this week's game due to injury, so Nick Smith makes his debut for the Guim. The locals will surely start to figure out who he is now. Pat Vezpremi also makes his debut, moving into the forward line and pushing Brent Harvey to the bench. Daniel Kerr makes way for Vezpremi to play. Nathan Van Berlo has been rewarded for some great form by starting this week's game on the ground. Good to see Matty Dea and Ty Vickery pressing for selection as emergencies. Vickery in particular would be a handy inclusion once injury and form permit. The full lineup, as per the list on the butcher's shop window, is: DEF: Rance, Duffield, McPharlin, Smith MID: Boyd, Foley, Dal Santo, Van Berlo RUCK: Maric (captain) FWD: Walker, Betts, Howe, Vezpremi I/C: Harvey, Cassisi EM: Kerr, Dea, Vickery
Scores for Round 3 DEF: Rance 65, Duffield 76, McPharlin 76, Smith 44 MID: Boyd 125, Foley 127, Dal Santo 130, Van Berlo 86 RUCK: Maric (captain) 146 FWD: Walker 107, Betts 105, Howe 56, Vezpremi 36 and injured I/C: Harvey 103, Cassisi 64 Total 1346 A mixed lot of scores this weekend - though injuries continue to take their toll. Pat Vezpremi broke down in his first game for the Guim, while Lachlan Keeffe was hurt and will not play for the Guim in 2012. With Dylan Grimes also down, as well as Gary Rohan, we have a mounting injury toll. Backline missed Dylan Grimes this week, with Nick Smith not quite grasping his opportunity. Matty Dea might come under consideration. Similarly Ty Vickery may be considered for a forwardline spot very soon. The Guim's midfield ran rampant, with Boyd, Dal Santo and Foley (proving to be a great pick up) scoring well again. Big Ivan again led the side and could be on target for all ORFFA honours if his current form continues. Handy tons to Walker and Betts, while Harvey returned to some good scoring form.
A confirmed win over Powlett Plains has The Mighty Guim 3-0 and at the top of the ORFFA ladder. Our marketing department have beenbusy updating our team shield and logo, and we are pretty happy with the results: <img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/swah4g.png" /> The blue on the shield represents the limitless sky in which the Dirigibles fly, while the green represents the rolling fields and hills of beautiful Darraweit Guim. A copy of the logo has been taped to the butcher shop window as well as at the pub, with locals approving of the revamp. A couple wondered why there wasn't a mullet atop the dirigible, but they were interrupted by the booming voice of I Maric, who declared that this was a Guim team which favoured no-one, and competed for the glory of all. Big Ivan then duly ate a kilogram steak and ran all the way back home. This week the Far Kew Frogs come to pay us a visit. Our oval is watered and the barbies are set. Extra cases of beer have been ordered in anticipation of a big home crowd to cheer the boys on.
Well, the Dirigibles' coach has been rather unwell over the past week so there's been a lack of updates on the Guim's efforts. The Dirigibles remain undefeated after a low scoring win over the Far Kew Frogs in Rd 4. It was a comfortable 145 point win 1160-1015, but there were some concerns with form and injuries again amongst some of the players. Nathan Foley is hobbled and can't be considered this week, while Paul Duffield has been demoted after a lacklustre effort against the Frogs. A number of Guim players also have league-mandated weeks off, meaning that Boyd, Van Berlo, Harvey and a couple of others can't be considered for this abbreviated matchup in Rd 5 vs Gundagai - a team on a roll of late. The Guim's midfield has been decimated by injury and byes - with Foley, Boyd, Van Berlo, Harvey, Picken and Kerr among those missing. Duffield, Grimes, Smedts are also out, while Keeffe and Rohan remain on the LTI. So pickings are slim this week. Nick Smith returns to the side and a spot in defence, while the final spot in the team this week is a toss up between Brent Renouf and Ty Vickery. A decision will be made closer to the first bounce. Matt Dea unlucky not to play.
The Dirigibles moved to 5-0 and retain second spot on the ORFFA ladder after a close win over Gundagai last weekend. Despite being hit by injuries and byes, the Guim were able to post a competitive score to win by 128 points - 837 to 709. Leading the way again was the Mighty Mullet, Ivan Maric, with another 100+ score. Maric was lucky however - as were the entire Guim tam - that his direct opponent Aaron Sandilands went down early with only a single figure score to his name. Other noteworthy performances came from Ty Vickery (in his best outing for the year), affirming his coach's faith in giving him a game, Jumping Jeremy Howe, the Carlton pair of Walker and Betts, Rance up back and Nick Dal Santo carrying a heavy load in the midfield. Others, including Nick Smith and Luke McPharlin recorded decent scores. A number of players make welcome returns this week, including Matthew Boyd, Nathan Van Berlo and Brent Harvey. Nathan Foley looks unlikely to play again, while a number of others - including McPharlin, Duffield, Smith and others - have the bye. Matty Dea makes his debut for the Guim, while Ty Vickery retains his spot in the side. Dom Cassisi will be looking on from the bench, while the Guim hope the ruck/mid combo of Maric, Boyd, NDS and Van Berlo scores enough to overcome a tough Cradle Mountain outfit. The home fans will be out in force, the ground will be watered and the hairdos will be ordinary. Hopefully the Guim's unbeaten streak continues in the lead-up to an important week or so in which we will welcome some new players to the fold via the mid season draft.
Nah, happy Kerr greeted his new owner with a good score. I just needed a slightly younger midfielder to be honest. That said, in a fair degree of trouble right now in my Round 6 matchup. Think Cradle Mountain might enter the weekend proper about 150 or more points up with two extra players played. Tough ask to come back from there.
Round 6 report The Dirigibles have continued their undefeated run to start the ORFFA season, coming back from an early deficit to notch a win over Cradle Mountain 979 to 791. Far below full strength thanks to byes and injuries, the Guim got off to a slow start in which forwards Betts and Walker posted slightly below average scores (64 and 79 respectively). However, Nick Dal Santo's 130 (and Nathan Van Berlo's 72) set the ship back on course, and the Richmond trio of Maric (146), Rance (107) and Dea (60) scored massively to pull Darraweit Guim into the lead. From there, Bent Harvey delivered a vintage 138, and Matthew Boyd 112 to ensure a big score and comfortable win. Dom Cassisi also contributed a handy 60+ to round the game out. Update: This week the Guim unfortunately bid farewell to four players - Aaron Joseph, Lachlan Keeffe, Pat Vezpremi and Billy Smedts. It was with heavy heart they were delisted, however one may be picked up again in the mid-season draft if stocks become thin. In any case, four recruits will be welcomed to the Guim in the coming week after the draft. Captain Ivan will extend a hearty greeting and quickly lay down the law, as some of the new recruits have a chance of playing in Round 7 as byes and injury will further weaken the Guim. With Foley, Maric, Grimes, Rance, Vickery, Dea, Walker, Dal Santo and Betts out, some of the team's lesser lights - Nick Smith, Jeremy Howe, new recruit Ben Cunnington, Liam Picken and Trent McKenzie are all in the running for a game. It will be a brave win indeed if the Guim are victorious in Round 7.
Much action at Darraweit Guim over the past few days, as a quartet of new recruits has arrived and is settling into training. The Dirigibles would like to extend a warm welcome to a pair of Tigers and a pair of Suns: Dan Connors Shane Edwards Rory Thompson Liam Patrick Welcome all four of you, with the good news that you'll have a full week to prepare, train and get ready for a Round 8 matchup given none of you have senior games planned this week. Dan and Shane feel especially at home given the number of Tigers now at Darraweit. Meanwhile youngsters Thompson and excitement machine Patrick are raring to go as well. Joining these four on the sidelines will be 14 other members of the Guim's 26 player squad (Maric, Foley, Grimes, Rance, Dal Santo, Vickery, McKenzie, Dea, Renouf, Cassisi, Walker, Betts, Duffield and Rohan). This means that the Dirigibles will be fielding only 8 players in their matchup this week, and are staring down the barrel of their first ORFFA loss for 2012. Skipper Ivan Maric has urged the 8 players taking the field to keep their heads up and do their best. Regrettably the Guim are playing away at Mt Beauty this week - if the match was at home a heavy flood would be in effect - both in terms of tactics on the field and a literal excess of on-field water - to stifle the opposition's numerical advantage. A step backwards to take two steps forward perhaps. We'll have to see.
Round 7 scoring: Defenders: McPharlin - 68 Smith - 83 Mids: Boyd - 63 Picken - 58 Cunnington - 17 Van Berlo - 55 Forwards: Harvey - 79 Howe - 92 Total: 515 from 8 players (2 players short) Tough week at the office for the Dirigibles, but even 2 players short most of the guys acquiited themselves admirably. A couple of downers - Van Berlo and Cunnington well down on their averages, and Boyd having a 'mare, but special mentions to Jeremy Howe and Nick Smith, who shone amidst the carnage. The Dirigibles await the official scores and results from the league, but don't hold out a lot of hope that 515 will be good enough to notch a win. Preliminary scores indicate a loss by at least a couple of hundred points. That said, 16 players will return to the field next week, allowing the Guim to choose a full line-up. Nick Smith may well hold his place in the side, but Ben Cunnington may be in doubt after his poor score.
Bad luck Chris only having 8 players, it was a fairly convincing win though by about 250 so not sure if the 2 extra would of saved you!
Well done Bama - nah, I got some really ordinary efforts by Boyd and Van Berlo - but they were due downers this week having been good all year. In one way I regret not picking up R Shaw and maybe Nicholson from Melbourne in the draft so I could have at least fielded a full team this week - but I thought that was short term thinking to be honest (though Nicholson is a likely type). I'll wear the loss to a much better team - 2 extra players (hell, 4 extra players) wouldn't have made any difference, and gear up for a big game at home next week. Hopefully the boys turn up and put on a show!!!
Iron Knob up next Chris and we are 3-0 over the byes with some red hot form. Bookies have us at $1.13 to burst the blimp!
Looking forward to the matchup this weekend Chris... Bit worried about Kreuzer against big Ivan.... He may just wet himself... But I hope we can knock you off and get 2 games clear in 4th
A long overdue update from the Blimps The Darraweit Guim Dirigibles are looking to build on an encouraging debut season in the ORFFA with a busy trade and drafting period sure to see some new faces introduced to the team. Captain and Leadership Group After recent discussions, the Dirigibles have confirmed that Ivan Maric will be re-appointed as skipper for the 2013 season. The Dirigibles match committee felt Maric's leadership and on-field performances were highlights in 2012, and unanimously voted to re-appoint him to the role. Maric will lead a 6-person leadership group, which will also include:Matthew Boyd (v/c), Nathan Van Berlo (dep v/c), Shane Edwards, Trent McKenzie and Jeremy Howe. Despite Jeremy's much publicised off-field antics in recent times, the match committee felt the media coverage of the incident was somewhat overblown, and that he had still earned a position on the leadership group. The group itself is a good mix of youth and experience, with further leadership sure to be offered from outside this list of 6 players. Delistings and Team List Prior to the draft and trade periods, there has only been one confirmed delisting - that of the sometimes wayward Dan Connors, who was unfortunately not able to put his full focus on the field during his short stint at the Guim. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours. This leaves the Guim's playing list at 25, with further delistings and changes to be announced. Matthew Boyd Nick Dal Santo Ivan Maric Paul Duffield Alex Rance Nathan Foley Andrew Walker Brent Harvey Nathan Van Berlo Eddie Betts Nick Smith Ben Cunnington Dylan Grimes Domenic Cassisi Tyrone Vickery Liam Picken Jeremy Howe Luke McPharlin Trent McKenzie Gary Rohan Mathew Dea Brent Renouf Shane Edwards Rory Thompson Liam Patrick Player progress, injuries Hamstrung by a series of injuries in the middle part of last year, the Dirigibles have reassessed their training and fitness regime. The good news is that the players have responded well. A number of players are on modified programs - Maric, Ty Vickery, Gary Rohan, Dylan Grimes and Nathan Foley amongst them. We hope this decision pays off, and are keen to gain full seasons from each of these players - especially Rohan, who was nursed through last year after serious injury. New Motto, Groundworks The club executive have also approved a new motto for the Dirigibles - Victoria Per Conatus or Victory Through Effort which we believe is an accurate representation of what the club is about. Meanwhile, works at the oval have seen an improvement in the seating area - there is one now, as well as carparking. The oval surface itself is in good shape, with use by the local cricketers no cause for concern.
