After the end of season trading period, the Darraweit Guim list has again undergone changes: <table width='756' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0] <col width='195' style='width: 146pt;[/img] <col width='173' style='width: 130pt;[/img] <col width='199' style='width: 149pt;[/img] <col width='189' style='width: 142pt;[/img] <tr height='25' style='height: 18.75pt;] <td style='height: 18.75pt; width: 146pt;' class='xl65]Defenders <td style='width: 130pt;' class='xl65]Midfielders <td style='width: 149pt;' class='xl65]Rucks <td style='width: 142pt;' class='xl65]Forwards

The Dirigibles remain well set for 2014, with our depth chart revealing a number of young players holding down first 15 positions across most lines. Defence: Alex Rance and Trent McKenzie have become the lynchpins of the Guim defence. Fellow youngster Andy Otten (an outside chance to be designated a D/F) and James Frawley will have key roles there during 2014 also, with the latter hoping for improvement after a disappointing 2013. The wildcard in the pack is Andrew Walker - his expected move to D/M or D (from F/M) will not only off-set the trading of Rory Thompson but provide some real depth. Luke McPharlin supplies important back-up, while Adam Kennedy continues to improve. Midfield: Spots in the Guim midfield will be hotly contested in 2014. Veterans Brent Harvey and the newly acquired Kane Cornes will provide the foundation as a bevy of youngsters develop. Youngsters Paul Seedsman, Mark Hutchings, Stephen Coniglio, Brad Hill and Dom Tyson will endeavour to stake their claim for a first 15 spot after the trading of Ben Cunnington. Nathan Foley and Andrew Walker (if a D/M) will also provide key support. Ruck: Formerly a weakness, the Dirigibles' rucking is now a strength with the addition of Nic Natainui to the team. His F/R positioning will allow great flexibility and provide the erstwhile Ivan Maric with an important chop-out through the season. An intriguing further possibility is having Ty Vickery designated as a R/F. If this occurs, the Guim's ruck department is well and truly set. Forward: The Guim's forward line has come a long way in the past 8 months, with the drafting of Michael Walters and the acquisition of Justin Westhoff and Nic Natainui. This trio, along with the evergreen Harvey, Ty Vickery, Shane Edwards and Eddie Betts from a formidable unit. Eddie Betts' move to new climes will hopefully spark a real return to form. Rohan Bewick remains a youngster with potential to improve under a new coach and system at Brisbane. If Justin Westhoff is designated dual position (a possibility), and Andy Otten's rough hopes of being a D/F materialise, the flexibility only increases. Draft: The upcoming draft will see Daraweit have picks #12, #42, #46, #57, #84. It is uncertain how many picks will be utilised - the minimum will be four, which means 3 further delistings to the 27-player list. Right now, a good defender and some further midfield youth and depth will be priorities - the club will look to the trade period early next year to endeavour to acquire a defender. Draft picks may be used on midfielders, with a shortlist of players already being developed.

Thanks Paul Roos and Melbourne FC. It seems that young Dom Tyson might be on the 'potentially most improved' list in season 2014. Tyson's move and the identities of available players have made my delisting priorities clearer for the pre-season draft and trade period.

He will be a gun Chris, that's why I wanted him off you, as I said then it's not about the club they are at now, it's about how that talent pool gets dispersed.. Definitely a huge plus for you with him switching out of a huge queue of talented youngsters to be at or near the front of one elsewhere..

Well the DT/SC positions have just made my team a lot more interesting - and given me a few headaches. Andrew Walker from FWD/MID to DEF was expected, but Paul Seedsman's value has just skyrocketed given he is now a DEF. Andy Otten has somehow become a DEF/FWD, which goes a little way towards making up for Nic Nat somehow losing his R/F status. My defence has all of a sudden become my strength - Rance, McKenzie, Walker and Seedsman, with Otten, Frawley and McPharlin on the bench.Geez, that's some depth. My forwards aren't too bad - Westhoff, Walters, Harvey (more a mid), Vickery, Shane Edwards (M/F), Betts, Otten. Got two rucks which is nice. But my mids - Harvey, Cornes and then prayers - Tyson, Hill, Coniglio, Foley, S Edwards, etc etc. I think my drafting priorities have become clear - and I think I may be shopping a defender for a mid perhaps.

Andrew Walker becoming a defender only was expected, and he will join with young guns McKenzie and Rance to provide a formidable backline. However, Paul Seedsman move to defence is a surprise -it will be a boon for the Guim's backline, but will detract from its already thin midfield. These changes provide enough depth to perhaps allow Andy Otten to venture forward more often - with Frawley and McPharlin solid backup. Up forward Otten's presence will be welcomed, with the loss of Walker to the backline and Nic Nat to the ruck. Westhoff and Walters will need to continue their fine form, while Edwards and Vickery will need to step up. Betts' change of scenery might be vital, while Lachie Hunter's new dual positioning might be a welcome surprise. Harvey will more likely be needed in the middle. The Guim's ruck seems set, with Nic Nat and Big Ivan to rotate in the ruck and through the bench. The midfield poses more questions than answers however. Harvey and Cornes hopefully still have good football in them, but from there, Seedsman's loss will be felt acutely. Tyson will need to step up, as will Coniglio. Foley and Edwards may be required to help out, while it is hoped Hill, Newnes, Hutchings and Hunter continue their improvement from 2013. Best 15: DEF: Walker, McKenzie, Rance, Seedsman MID: Harvey, Cornes, Foley, Tyson/Coniglio RUCK: Nic Nat FWD: Westhoff, Walters, Vickery, Betts I/C from: Maric, S Edwards, Otten, Hutchings The upcoming trade period may see the need for a midfielder explored.

With the trade period upcoming, the Darraweit Guim Dirigibles have confirmed three delistings in order to reduce the initial 2014 playing list to 24 players. We bid farewell to Tom Ledger, Dom Cassisi and Adam Kennedy. We thank all three for their service and in Adam Kennedy's case hope he gets picked up by another team. After discussions in the past couple of weeks over beers at the Guim's pub, management and coaching staff have decided to actively seek out a midfielder in the upcoming trade period. Young midfielders like Hill, Newnes, Tyson, Coniglio and Hunter are ready to take the next step for the Dirigibles, but as they do, another quality midfielder will be needed provide experience and a bridge” between senior midfielders Harvey and Cornes, and all our young midfielders. This means that it is likely that one of our young forwards will be on the block. Darraweit Guim management have identified a number of possible trade targets and will approach teams in the coming trade period.

Everyone at the Darraweit Guim Dirigibles would like to pass on their thoughts to people in the beautiful Macedon Ranges, including parts around the Guim, during what has been a difficult few days with bushfires in the area. We hope everyone stays safe, and commend the (always diligent) CFA brigades around the area for their work.

As stated in the auction thread: <table width='100%' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0' align='left' id='tblPostBody63535] <td valign='top' align='left' style='width: 100%;] <div class='Forum_Normal' id='spBody] As you can probably see - Pick 8 is in play at my end. Why - I don't know, but in a good draft like this year Pick 8 will nab you a very good player for 2014 and onwards. Not wishing to take over the auction thread, but make me an offer if you wish. I don't mind dropping down a few picks if that means I'd made swap one of my picks in the 40s for a decent second rounder as well. Feel free to throw an offer or two my way.

Blimps' Draft Drift Darraweit trades away first round draft pick Darraweit Guim will be without a first round draft pick in the coming ORFFA draft after deciding to trade away its Pick 8 as part of a deal with Powlett Plains. As part of the deal, the Guim gained young Powlett midfielder David Armitage, as well as the Plains' Pick 22. In return, the Guim traded Picks 8 and 42 in the draft, with a swap of MSD picks also agreed to. Darraweit coach Chris88 said he was comfortable with the decision to trade pick 8 given the already youthful nature of much of his list. 'We've got a batch of very young players aged 24 and under who are starting to really establish themselves in the league. We've recruited Nic Natainui, Steve Coniglio and David Armitage during the off-season as well, which has further added to our batch of young players. 'Given this youth, and the fact we've been able to secure some experienced players like Cornes, Goddard and Gibson during the trade periods since the end of 2014, we feel we can drop down the draft order and target someone who should still be available at Pick 22 rather than use Pick 8 on him.' 'Darraweit's scouts and recruitment staff have a shortlist of 4-6 players to be targeted with pick 22 and 46, with hopes that shortlisted players will still be available when the time comes.' It has been a busy off-season for the Dirigibles, with a number of comings and goings. Chris88 is however confident the team will gel together well enough, and has been heartened by some encouraging pre-season performances from James Frawley, Brad Hill and a rejuvenated Eddie Betts.

The Dirigibles have finished up their pre-season trade period quietly, with a late round draft pick swap kindly agreed to with Cradle Mountain.

Overall, the comings and goings from the squad that made the grand final last year have been significant:

Arrivals: Kane Cornes (M), Brendan Goddard (M), Nic Natainui (R), Stephen Coniglio (M), David Armitage (M), Josh Gibson (D).

Departures: Shane Edwards (M/F), Jesse Stringer (M), Ben Cunnington (M), Rory Thompson (D), Adam Kennedy (D), Tom Ledger (M), Dom Cassisi (M), Rohan Bewick (F), Mark Hutchings (M). The Dirigibles have lost a little bit of young talent through the middle of the ground - Cunnington and Hutchings in particular - but have gained both youth and experience in Coniglio, Armitage, Cornes and Goddard. Nic Nat gives the rucks some depth, while Gibson's recruitment provides depth to defence. Edwards' loss up forward is offset by positional movements, as well as Brent Harvey's likely move forward given the team's great midfield depth. The Guim has delisted Dom Cassisi and Rohan Bewick. We thank them both for their service. We have picks 22, 46, 62 and 79 in the coming draft. Looking forward to how things proceed.

Joint captains for the Guim Surprise as Maric joins Harvey as Blimps' club leader Darraweit Guim has sprung a surprise, with big Ivan Maric joining Brent Harvey as co-captains of the club in 2014. Big Ivan had previously stepped aside as captain in favour of Harvey so that he could concentrate on his fitness in the lead-up to the 2014 season. Regrettably not everything has gone to plan in that regard, with the mulleted ruckman set to miss the early rounds after ankle surgery. As he recovers from surgery, Maric said he was approached by Harvey to again help lead the club: 'Brent felt that while he could provide some on-field leadership, I could help around the club as well as I recover,' he said. 'We agreed that a joint captaincy arrangement could work. After talking to the club, they agreed as well.' Maric said he is looking forward to the season despite his injury setback, especially given the recruitment of fellow big man Nic Naitanui and a number of quality midfielders. And whilst Harvey and Maric will serve as captains, there have also been changes in the remainder of the leadership group. The six-man group will also include Alex Rance, Michael Walters, Justin Westhoff and recruit Kane Cornes.

Darraweit Guim has enjoyed a successful opening to its 2014 campaign, defeating Birdsville in a close match 1255 to 1219. For a team which has long relied on its forwards and defenders to contribute good scoring, it was Darraweit's midfielders that did the damage in Round 1. Brendan Goddard, Kane Cornes, Stephen Coniglio and Dom Tyson all cracked the ton, while Brad Hill chipped in with 96. Up forward Justin Westhoff continued his fine 2013 form with a score in excess of 110, while down back Alex Rance (81) and James Frawley (76) were encouraging. The good news flowed through to those who just missed selection, with Eddie Betts joining youngsters Jack Newnes, Tom Curran and Lachie Hunter in scoring well. All four will push for selection in coming weeks, placing those who didn't perform in Round 1 - including Ty Vickery, Michael Walters, David Armitage and Trent McKenzie. Round 2 will see Darraweit again playing away, this time against a tough Cradle Mountain line-up. Injury and suspension concerns continue to mount - particularly in defence, where Walker, Seedsman and Otten will all be missing from the best 15. It is hope Nic Naitanui will be better for the run, and that there is improvement in the defenders and forwards in time for Round 2.

Dirigibles' coach Chris88 has praised his side's teamwork after a great win over Cradle Mountain on the weekend. The Guim broke through the 1500 point barrier on the back of a consistent effort from all 15 players - 13 of which scored between 73 and 119. Co-captain Boomer Harvey's 169 in the late stages of the game was the icing on top of the cake for the team. Most encouraging has been the growth in the Dirigibles' young players - Brad Hill, Dom Tyson, Stephen Coniglio and Ty Vickery cementing first 15 places with some good scoring. In the absence of four starting backmen, the Guim's defence has held firm with James Frawley, Josh Gibson and Luke McPharlin quite solid. Meanwhile Eddie Betts, Jack Newnes and Lachie Hunter continue to press their cases for selection with good form in the twos. This weekend marks the first home game for Darraweit, where we will take on Gundagai.

Darraweit Guim best and fairest update (after three rounds) Votes from the first three rounds of action have been tallied, with an update now available on the Dirigibles best and fairest - affectionately known as 'The Hindy'. Round 1 - Goddard 5, Westhoff 4, Cornes 3, Tyson 2, Coniglio 1,
Round 2 - Harvey 5, Cornes 4, Coniglio 3, Hill and Tyson 2 each
Round 3 - Harvey 5, Coniglio 4, Gibson 3, Goddard 2, McKenzie 1 The leaderboard for The Hindy after three rounds is: Harvey 10. Coniglio 8. Cornes, Goddard 7. Westhoff, Tyson 4. Gibson 3. McKenzie 1. Meanwhile Darraweit poor run with injuries continues, with young forward Michael Walters out indefinitely with an ankle injury. He joins Rance, Maric, Otten and Seedsman on the sidelines. The silver lining has been that Darraweit's depth has shone during this period - with Frawley and Gibson excelling in defence and young Lachie Hunter playing well up forward.

Round 4 Update Darraweit remains undefeated and in third place on the ORFFA ladder after a hard-fought, low scoring win over Mt Beauty. The game was marred by a series of injuries to players on both teams - Menzel and Leuenberger injured and subbed off for Mt Beauty, while Goddard and Nic Nat were red vested for Darraweit Guim. Concerns remain over their fitness for next week's game, as well as over the up and down form of Ty Vickery up forward. The Dirigibles are without five of their starting 15 already - Rance, Seedsman, Otten, Walters and Maric - and with Goddard and Nic Nat under injury clouds, there is a danger the team may be without a ruckman and will have to find further replacements through the midfield. Jack Newnes and Eddie Betts may come into the side, while Jed Lamb's first hit out for the year was encouraging. Darraweit's undermanned defence has been an absolute highlight for the team, with a rejuvenated James Frawley leading from the front with recruit Josh Gibson, while Andrew Walker, Trent McKenzie and Luke McPharlin all provide great support. We look forward to taking on an improved Nunawading this week in what looms as a big match for both teams. Best of luck to the Nuffas. Round 4 votes in The Hindy as follows: 5 - Frawley
4 - Cornes
3 - Westhoff
2 - Hill
1 - Gibson

The leaderboard for The Hindy after four rounds is:
Cornes 11. Harvey 10.
Coniglio 8.
Goddard, Westhoff 7. Frawley 5. Tyson, Gibson, Hill 4.
McKenzie 1.

Rounds 5 and 6 Hindy update, and club latest

A couple of losses to white-hot Nuffas and Incorrigibles outfits has put a dent in the Blimps' fine start to the year. Whilst full strength Dirigibiles outfits may well have struggle the past fortnight, the injury stick being waved around the club with reckless abandon has thrust players into the starting outfit unexpectedly.

A number of young players have continued to step up - Coniglio, Newnes, Hill and Tyson through the middle, Frawley in defence, Jed Lamb in attack. It bodes well for the future that these guys are already contributing to the Guim's efforts.

With the mid season break almost upon us (barring another tough matchup this weekend against Wagga Wagga), Darraweit is looking forward to the return from injury of all sorts of talent in the coming 1-3 weeks, including Brendan Goddard, Andy Otten, Alex Rance, Paul Seedsman, Ivan Maric, David Armitage. Hopefully Lachlan Hunter and Ty Vickery can regain form and break back into the starting 15 as well.

Votes for Round 5 in the Hindy:

5- Hill
4 - Coniglio
3 - Nic Nat
2 - Walker
1 - Westhoff

Votes for Round 6 in the Hindy:

5 - Harvey
4 - Cornes
3 - Newnes
2 - Walker
1 - Gibson

Leaderboard: Cornes 15, Harvey 15.
Coniglio 12. Hill 9. Westhoff 8. Goddard 7. Frawley 5, Gibson 5. Tyson 4, Walker 4. Nic Nat 3. Newnes 3
McKenzie 1.
