With all players back from their midseason breaks, we are back in full training after a wonderful MidWinter Solstice ceremony on the weekend to welcome everyone back into the fold and prepare ourselves for a full assault on the second half of the year. Time for the midseason review.

Our fearless leader has played all 10 games and has done everything asked of him; although, admittedly, we don't ask a lot of this fella, but we dont need to. Exceptional talent and such an influential player on this team. 7/10
Shannon Hurn - Vice Captain -10 games, 7 votes. Our VC has also played all 10 games, actually taking on the captaincy in round 1 as well. After a sort of slow start to the year, Shannon has exploded, scoring centuries at will and setting an extremely high standard for his teammates to follow. Unfortunately, he's come back from the midseason break in pretty bad shape and may need to miss the next game or two. 8/10
Sam Bleese - 2 games The young speedster, playing his first season with Gariwerd has struggled to break into the senior lineup, playing just the 2 games. He smelt a delisting approaching and took it upon himself to play some pickup games over the break and saved his Cockatoo career after finding some fine form. We are hoping for some big things from this guy in years to come. 2/10
Allen Christenson - 10 games, 3 votes. We traded away Matt Priddis for this fella and we are impressed with his attitude around the club and sparkling form on the field. Just needs to find some consistency and whe will be an absolute star of the future. Had a day out over at Iron Knob where he scored 170odd against the pacesetters of the ORFFA, netting all 3 of his B&F votes in that one game. 5/10
Mitch Clark - 4 games Played the first 4 games of the season, before we rested him in round 5, trying to conserve his energy for our big walk to Iron Knob after the game; but he has unfortunately been unable to break back into the senior team since then, but he did handle himself well for the walk, which was a big priority of his at the time. 3/10
Adam Cooney - 8 games, 7 votes. In his first season with Gariwerd, he played the first 8 games and showed some of the form we hoped he would when we traded for him, including glimpses of his brownlow winning form. Despite missing the final 2 games, he finds himself equal 2nd in the b&f, which speaks volumes about his impact at the club. 8/10
Matt De Boer - 9 games, 3 votes. After missing round 1, due to his designated role as an emergency, Matt has played every game since and has been a serviceable role player, albeit inconsistent and not living up to our expectations. Still, he has been a tackling machine and has a lot of improvement left in him, so we are not too worried about him. 4/10
Brett Deledio - 10 games, 11 votes. An unbackable favorite to defend his B&F from last year with another one in 2013. He is already 4 votes clear of the next best and has been in smashing form. A standout onfield leader, he is one of only a few players in the leadership group who would feel safe, as many other leaders at this club have been shown their marching orders time and again. 9/10
Josh Gibson - 9 games, 1 vote. One of the elder members of the team, Josh is a pillar of our back 4. We were therefore disappointed with his request not to play in round 8 as we embarked on our second of two huge roadtrips, choosing instead to stay at home with his partner. Josh has played all 9 other games and hasn't been as good as last season, but still remains one of our most important players. 5/10
Robbie Gray - 7 games, 3 votes After being drafted injured and missing all of season 1, Robbie Gray debuted foor the club in round 4 and has been finding his feet and place in the marn grook game plan we play. He has shown some good form at times, but is not yet up to the standard we expect of him. 5/10
Nick Lower - 7 games, 1 vote Played the first 3 and the last 4games , before being delisted midseason. Wasn't too bad actually, and played some great tagging games for us, but was not good enough to hold his spot on our list for the remainder of the season. 4/10
James Magner - 2 games Finally fought his way into the senior team for rounds 8 and 9, playing pretty well too, but couldnt hold a spot in our best 15, so we were pleased to facilitate a trade for him to hopefully give him some more opportunities at Venus Bay. 2/10
Chris Masten - 9 games, 5 votes Has been a revelation this season, improving so much on years gone by. His only negative being his midnight stroll where he fell down a mineshaft and had to miss the round 7 game through the resultant injury. Turning into a super player and we are expecting his improvement to continue too. 7/10
Tom Murphy - 7 games, 1 vote Finds himself very unlucky to be delisted and we strongly considered drafting him back again with our final selection in the recent Expansion Draft. Has had a decent year so far, playing in 7 of the 10 games and scoring well, averaging around 80ppg, and had even showed his best form in his last 2 games for the club, where he filled in as an Out of Position Forward. Unfortunately, he was not able to find a new ORFFA home, so we have invited him to stay on and play with our reserves for the remainder of the season. 6/10
Setanta O'hAilpin - 3 games, 2 votes Delisted after scoring two b&f votes from just 3 games, but it was that he struggled to even get into the seniors that ultimately led to his undoing. We will forever be honoured at the level of committment Setanta showed when asked to forcibly remove Vickory of the Guim from Gariwerd country in round 1. He was drafted again by another club, so we wish him all the best. 4/10
Jaspar Pittard - 2 games Had an awesome game in the reserves in round 1, so we brought him into the seniors for round 2 and 3, but he couldnt find the same form and has been out of the side ever since. He is a terrific kick of the footy, but has struggled to find it enough to do any damage. Still only young and certainly worth persisting with. One of the foundation players of this club. 2/10
Jared Polec - 0 games Unable to force his way into the senior team as yet this season. Like Pittard, he is a foundation player and a young player we are trying to develop for future years. 0/10
Brodie Smith - 5 games, 2 votes After missing the first 5 games of the season, we brought him into the seniors and he has taken his opportunity and performed well, scoring 2 b&f votes along the way. Still really young and developing into a very reliable player for us. 6/10
Zach Smith - 6 games, 3 votes Has not lived up to the hype that came with his high draft selection in the inaugural ORFFA draft. He struggled last season and has done so again this season. He has had the odd good game, but has not been good enough, culminating in a serious knee injury in round 8 that will see him out for the rest of the season. 4/10
Kobe Stevens - 9 games, 4 votes We have been really impressed with the improvement young Kobe has shown this year as well. Apart from the Cap, VC and Lids, he is the only member of the leadership group that has been in there since the inception of the club, but he struggled to get into the seniors last season. This year he has played 9 games, only missing one through a club imposed suspension for his part in the Chris Masten mineshaft incident, and he has gathered 4 b&f votes along the way, ranking him 6th at the club. 5/10
Ben Stratton - 4 games Had to resign himself to being an emergency for most of the season, but managed to force his way into the seniors in round 7 and hasn't given us a reason to drop him back out. Is a part of a strong defensive unit we have and has held his own amongst it. Not so young anymore, but still improving. 5/10
Colin Sylvia - 7 games Hasn't had a bad year, but we were very disappointed in his decision to stay home with 3 other players for our round 8 game to stay with their WaGs. We were especially dissapointed in Colin as his omission meant we had to play an Out of Position Forward which ultimately led to our very close loss at Venus Bay. We then suspended him from the remaining 3 games before the midseason break and he could not join us for our trip to WA. He has been training the house down this week and is raring to go for the second half of the season. 5/10
Kurt Tippett - 0 games What a rocky road this has been. In the leadup to round 1, we thought we had convinced Kurt to rejoin his team, and named him in round 1, before he had a sook about being named on the bench and reverted to his preseason decision to sit out and hope to be traded or delisted. We then invited him along on our first big road trip and we all had a great time with Kurt around the team and he did too, but then when we didnt invite him over to WA, it was revealed he had been training with Waikikamoocow and was disappointed in not being invited to WA. He then travelled with his Kiwi buddies over to WA for the round 10 game, and ultimately changed his mind and recommitted to the Cockatoos, so we are looking forward to having him back in the fold for the rest of the season. 1/10
Jimmy Toumpas - 1 game Our first draft pick in the 2013 preseason draft, just a young 18 year old, still developing his game. Our Sports Scientist has been working closely with him and got him ready for a cameo appearance in round 8 when all those 4 players made themselves unavailable, but unfortunately he did an injury and the Sports Scientist couldnt fix him up enough to play either of the last two rounds. A ball magnet at junior level, we have very high hopes for this kid! 1/10
Nathan Vardy - 1 game Finally played his first game of the season in round 10, primarily to put him on display as trade bait and we managed to secure a first round 2014 preseason draft pick for him. After trading him in for a 1st round Midseason draft pick in 2012, we are happy with that net result. Always injury prone, he is going to find it tough at Powlett Plains, with about 8 other ruckmen on their list to contend with. 3/10
Mitch Wallis - 8 games Has gone under the radar, playing 8 games, which is surprising because he has not been in very good form at all this season. Is still a very young player though and probably performed above expectations last season, so we can go easy on him for now, as he will get back to it at some stage again in the future and will turn out to be a very important player in our midfield. 3/10

Word around these parts is that they've been fired up for this game for a long time.

This year, we've flown in DJs Zip and Sammy D of Perlon records to coach the lads this week on how to perform with the distraction of lasers. They're also going to be providing music for the game too, so it should be a fun match.

There will of course be an after party too, celebrating NAIDOC week, and all the Spelunkers are invited. ...Not mentioned in the blog comments, but good news, is that our Sports Scientist will be providing 'legal' stimulants for everyone at the after party

HOWEVER, we have made the call not to name an emergency on the ruck line, which, given the events of the past two weeks, would seem completely negligent, but it should be noted that it is intentional and the non-coaching members of the selection committee have vowed to hand in their resignations if Cam Pedersen withdraws late again this week. This week, we invited the Lefties of Larrikin Lagoon to Gariwerd and we have now finally won back to back games for the first time all season!!
In a low scoring affair that saw only 3 players score triple figures, we have come out on top for a great win that keeps our finals hopes alive. Our captain, Shaun Burgoyne seems to have finally recovered from the rave party a fortnight ago and looks set to come back into the team for round 16, but whether he will be an automatic choice for the captaincy remains to be seen, with young fill-in cap, Koby Stevens, putting in another fine performance, leading the team admirably. It is also uncertain about who could make way for him in defense, with the three likely candidates all scoring the same score this week to make it hard to separate them; although, Chris Masten had a game he would rather forget and could see his spot on the Interchange lost.
Back to the good news... Cam Pedersen was finally able to make his Cocky debut, with the Gariwerd selectors all letting out a collective sigh of relief, especially as Shaun McKernan spudded it up in the reserves, looking really scratchy after his 2 week suspension. Cam wasnt much better though and doesnt seem to be a Cocky type of player really.

This caused a Fine Cotton like frenzy in the betting ring, with a &amp;lsquo;curly' situation being averted when the Selwood boy was asked to lower his shorts to make sure that the carpet matched the drapes. It was confirmed that it was indeed Scott Selwood who was playing and the game was allowed to continue. Gariwerd put in a very well rounded performance, with 8 players scoring between 105 and 90, but the Cockies got over the line mainly due to finally having a playing ruckmen. Cam Pedersen got over his pre-game stage fright to actually take the field this week and record a massive 54, enough to win the game for coach Anthak. The Lefties only had one player top the ton (Golby with 101), but may rue the spud effort of Daniher (17) who was selected in place of Scotland (111) who smashed it in the reserves.
