Following on from earlier news that Zach Smith has been dropped and James Sellar will not be replacing him in the senior side, here is the rest of the side for Round 4. After not cutting the mustard over in the foul bay, weve swung the axe again, dropping both magner and Zach Smith. The way that Sylvia has played in the early season has not been very impressive, so we are gonna bring him in and let him have a run in the ruck. should be interesting. The other player to come in is Ben Stratton, who has slotted into the backline with our captain Burgoyne making a move into the guts where he will be able to exert his influence more strongly. The only other change this week is Matt Thomas moving to a bench role. Brodie Smith and Stevie Milne should consider themselves unlucky not to get a call up, but another strong performance from either of them in the twos and the may be considered next week. Heres the team: DEF: Deledio Hurn (VC) Gibson Stratton MID Priddis masten Wallis Burgoyne (C) RUCK Sylvia FWD: Tippett Clark Monfires Davey INT De Boer Thomas Em BSmith (def) Magner (mid) Milne (fwd)
Here's our scores for round 4. Full match report to follow later. DEF: Deledio 114 Hurn (VC) 87 Gibson 45 Stratton 50 MID Priddis 133 masten 106 Wallis 84 Burgoyne (C) 75 RUCK Sylvia 79/2 = 40 OOP FWD: Tippett 79 Clark 83 Monfires 61 Davey 29 INT De Boer 100 Thomas 110 I think that adds up to 1196 - not very good really.
ROUND 4 MATCH REPORT Well, we had a really tight game on our hands in round 4, going down by just 18 points in the end. At the selection table, it was touch and go whether we went with Davey or Milne and Milney probably would have got the job done in the end. And not long after lockout, I was thinking about how I should have had Davey in the ruck as he was my 15th picked player - and we could have done with Sylvia's presence up forward - also would have got the job done. And then to cap it off further. Sellar was a late inclusion into the dees and he scored a hunge - also would have been handy... Anyway, it was a great team effort back in front of our home fans again. Sylvia battled valiantly in the ruck and an OOP 40. Our two tall defenders struggled, although the two smalls were able to hang tough as two of the better players in the game. Burgoynes move to the middle looked to be a goodun as he was dominating early, but he tapered off to finish with a par score, and we really needed more from him - our captain - when the game was on the line at the end. Two players that were really impressive were De Boer and Thomas, who had both started on the bench, but they played significant roles and both scored hundreds. Priddis had another great game in the guts and he was supported well by Masten, who scored his first ton for the cockies, and Wallis who missed a hundred for the first time, although still being able to hold his head high with a 84. Now for the Best & Fairest results for Round 4: 3 - Matt Priddis 2 - Matt Thomas 1 - Shannon Hurn And The Leaderboard to date: 6 - Matt Priddis 5 - Brett Deledio 3 - Shaun Burgoyne, Matt Thomas, Shannon Hurn 2 - Mitch Clark, Kurt Tippett Now onto this week... Round 5. We are off to the Opening, or The Pit as their home ground is called. We have been anticipating this game for some time, and cant wait to get Down there. Due to there being heaps of players out unavailable at the moment, the ORFFA teams will be having squads of 10 players each contesting the next 3 rounds. Here's our provisional lineup for the trip (subject to late changes) DEF: Deledio Burgoyne (C) MID: DeBoer MThomas (VC) RUCK: Sellar FWD: Clark Monfries INT: Gibson Sylvia Morton EM: Stratton (DEF) Magner (M) Davey (F) Quite a few players are missing out this week, due to being unavailable, however there have only been two inclusions. James Sellar and Cale Morton. And Matt Thomas will have VC duties in Hurns absence. A trade has just been accepted today between us and Marble Bar. Pending league approval, we will be sending Cale Morton to Marble bar in exchange for Nick Lower. We are giving Cale a game this week to send him off in style, down in the map of Tassie at Charlies Opening. Hopefully you have a great game Cale and repay the faith we showed in drafting you in the first place. We are sad to see you go, but are very keen and happy to be welcoming Nick into the Cockies camp.
Looking forward to making Cale feel good about the move All the best to the cockies... hang around for the drinks and sausage sizzle after the game, should be a hoot!
Feel free to give him heaps Bandit. On another matter, our fill in VC - Matt Thomas - has had to pull out at late notice, which sees Magner come in as a late replacement, although Deledio has been entrusted with the VC duties as he is the only other player from our leadership group thats actually playing this weekend. Looking forward to the drinks and snags after the game mate. Its been a long weekend.
We had a great time down the Pit. Looks like we have come away with a narrow victory, and the hospitality was top class. Loved the snags after the game. It was a really close game and every player had to play a part for us to come away with the victory - no matter how small... as that was the difference in the end - We had 10 players taking part, while The Spelunkers had only 9! As mentioned earlier, our fill in VC had to pull out at late notice. He was not feeling brave enough to enter the Pit and watched the match from this vantage point: Magner was called in as the late replacement and Lids was burdened by the VC duties. It was quite unsettling for them, which resulted in shockers from both and more should be expected of Matt Thomas as VC really. There is talk of him being removed from the leadership group now. In the absence of the midfield generals, Thomas and Priddis, De Boer really stepped up to the plate and he has been quite impressive since coming in as a late inclusion in round 1 of the ORFFA, really grabbing his chance in the senior team. It has been quite pleasing to watch his progress over the early season, which all led to his BOG performance down the Pit with a score of 141. In his final game for the Cockatoos, Cale Morton also performed admirably with a 70 and we wish him all the best over in the Wild West. Despite Deledio's aforementioned shocker, our defense held fast with Gibson contributing a ton and our captain Burgoyne adding a solid score of 87. While down the other end, our fwd line was held together by Mitch Clark who played a brilliant game, winning the game for us at the death with a 113. Unfortunately Monfries was the victim of someone in the crowd with a laser pointing it at him at various stages of the match. [urlhttp://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/angus-monfries-target-of-laser-beam/story-e6frg7mf-1226390552116[/url I must admit that it did get out of hand at times: Heres our final scores: DEF: Deledio (VC) 67 Burgoyne (C) 87 MID: DeBoer 141 MThomas - Late withdrawal, replaced by Magner RUCK: Sellar 69 FWD: Clark 113 Monfries 56 INT: Gibson 107 Sylvia 53 Morton 70 Playing EM: Magner 42 TOTAL SCORE: 805 Best & Fairest results for Round 5: 3 - Matt De Boer 2 - Mitch Clark 1 - Cale Morton And The Leaderboard to date: 6 - Matt Priddis 5 - Brett Deledio 4 - Mitch Clark 3 - Shaun Burgoyne, Matt Thomas, Shannon Hurn, Matt De Boer 2 - Kurt Tippett 1 - Cale Morton . This week we welcome the Uglies to Gariwerd, and we hope we can have another great game at home as our fans have already been treated to a couple so far and are anticipating more to come. We have a lot of players out of action again this week, due to the league sanctioned mandatory resting of certain players, and to rub salt into the wounds, Alwyn Davey got into strife in the ressies and is suspended for 2 weeks. We hope that Matt Thomas has recovered from his vertigo and will be able to return to bolster the midfield; however it is all dependent on a fitness test closer to the game.
The trade has gone through now, so we would like to welcome Nick Lower to the Cockatoos. Nick is a 25 year old midfielder with 3 years of AFL experience behind him. He really came of age last season averaging 82 SC ppg. He has been injured all season this year and has not played an ORFFA game yet, but he has resumed training and should be ready for action in a week or two. He has already fit in at training really well. Here is a pick of him roughing up Matt Priddis, trying to show he is ready for a midfield spot alongside the Cockatoos 2012 Best and Fairest leader. We are planning to hold him back from this weekends game to give him more chance to learn and understand the Marn Grook game plan.
Leading up to the 2012 ORFFA Midseason Draft, the Cockatoos today held a press conference and made the following statement:
Quote from anthak on June 14, 2012, 01:39 Ok, The Gariwerd Cockatoos would like to announce the delisting of one of our players: Lachie Hansen. Lachie, it was great to meet you and thanks for helping out at training over the last coupl'a months. We believe it's in the best interests of both parties if we go our separate ways now and we have decided to pay out the remainder of your contract to ensure that happens. You will now be available for the Midseason draft. Good luck with that. Hopefully you can find a new ORFFA home. We may have another announcement to make before the deadline; however this will most probably be our only midseason delisting for 2012.

On another matter, we have had the budget approved to fly in Christiano Ronaldo to coach Angus Monfries and the rest of the team about how to deal with being a target of fans with lasers. Some of the players have not felt entirely comfortable being told by a soccer player to "toughen up," although it has been really worthwhile so far.

Quote from Xenomorph on June 14, 2012, 13:57 At least he won't have to teach Gus how to dive.........
haha, I hadnt thought of that. yes, he can stage with the best of them cant he. Not something we are proud of though.
Heres our team for round 6: DEF; Deledio Hurn (VC) MID: Priddis Masten Ruck: ZSmith FWD: Tippett Monfries INT: Gibson Wallis Burgoyne (C) We have been forced into many changes due to the league impossed resting of certain players through these three weeks. Too many changes to mention them all, with only 4 players remaining in the side after last weeks narrow victory. We are happy to have young Zach Smith back in the ruck after a few weeks out in the magoos, and we are not happy that De Boer has been forced to take a mandatory break after his BOG last week, but we welcome back Priddis and Masten to shore up the engine room. Gibson will once again come off the bench after he did really well in the role last week, and he is joined there by Wallis - who comes back into the side this week after a rest - and captain Shaun Burgoyne who has been playing well, although due to matchups, we think he will be most effective coming off the bench this week. The boys are pretty determined to put up a good showing in front of our home crowd this weekend against Mt Beauty at Gariwerd.
also important to note is that Matt Thomas has recovered from his vertigo of last week; however is too embarrassed to front up in front of his home crowd after pulling out late last week under those circumstances. He is off on stress leave now, and we have allowed him to head home to Melbourne for some much needed family time so he can work out where his head is at and come back a more committed Cockatoo.

Quote from anthak on June 17, 2012, 02:15
Quote from anthak on June 14, 2012, 23:34
Quote from anthak on June 14, 2012, 16:37 After seeing the talent available in the draft, I am a little hesitant in doing this now; however we have another trade to put through... * Vardy from Whitsunday to Gariwerd In exchange for Gariwerd’s final draft pick in the 2012 Midseason Draft. Ie, 2nd round if there are two delisted Cockatoos, or 1st round pick if only one delisted Cockatoo. or 5th round if I delist 5 hahahahaha
I ended up delisting just the one player TiB, so you get my 1st round Midseason Draft pick in exchange for Vardy. pending league approval of the trade
Well our trade has gone through TiB. So you will now get my 1st round MidSeason Draft pick. 2 first round picks for you. And I can now welcome Nathan Vardy to Gariwerd. Only a few months ago, there were doubts about him ever playing again; however, we believe that, once in the Cockatoo system with our medical team, we will be able to have him playing some level of footy by the end of this season and pushing for our #1 ruck spot in 2013.

Round 6 match report. So we had a visit from Mount Beauty on the weekend, and the boys put in an awesome display, coming away with a big win 977 - 818. Unfortunately due to bureaucratic reasons, we played the game one player short as Angus Monfries was deemed unfit by the league who enforced that he take a mandatory break that we forgot about when selecting the side. This would not have been a problem if the Gariwerd selectors had rememberred that this was his week off; however further bureaucracy meant that we could not select emergencies to take his place in the gameday side. Stevie Milne would have been this player and he is understandable pissed off about it. His form has been up and down so far this season and he would have relished the chance to play up in the big league again. He scored a 67 in the reserves which would have been enough to see us score a 100 point average per player for this week. anyway, we got the win in the end. It was a marvelous performance by the 9 that did pull the boots on. Matt Thomas should also get a mention here too. As stated earlier, he did not want to play for Gariwerd this week after last weeks exploits, but we did give him clearance to play for his old junior side - The Murrumbeena Lions. He helped the Lions to a huge win over Springvale Districts in Division 2 of the Southern Football League and scored 61 points. There was a great deal of after match drinks that stretched on for days, so we are giving him the week off this week and we will assess whether to include him in the Gariwerd side for round 8 of the ORFFA - that is if he decides to come back. Here's the team, and their points: DEF: Deledio - 132 Hurn (VC) - 78 MID: Priddis - 131 Masten - 93 Ruck: ZSmith - 91 FWD: Tippett - 126 Monfries - NO SCORE... see above. INT: Gibson - 84 Wallis - 105 Burgoyne (C) - 137 All in all, it was a great team effort, lead by our captain, who was obviously not happy to start from the bench and he put in a BOG display. Our big guns, dominated at every line, Lids down back, Priddis in the guts and Tippett starred up fwd. Best & Fairest results for Round 6: 3 - Shaun Burgoyne 2 - Kurt Tippett 1 - Brett Deledio And The Leaderboard to date: 6 - Matt Priddis, Shaun Burgoyne, Brett Deledio 4 - Mitch Clark, Kurt Tippett 3 - Matt Thomas, Shannon Hurn, Matt De Boer 1 - Cale Morton Well done lads. The home fans were ecstatic and are really looking forward to a second home game in a row this week when the bottom placed Nunawading side travel over to Gariwerd.
We have suspicions that the manager of Matt Thomas has been shopping him around due to the recent falling out, and we would like to put it on record that he is officially a required player at Gariwerd and we have full faith that he will be able to return in a week or two and regain the faith of his peers and the fans. If you are not aware, Management of Whitsunday attempted to draft him today in the MidSeason Draft, as the must have thought his return to Murrumbeena was due to us delisting him, rather than just a welcome break from the pressures he was feeling before leaving. Here's a recap of todays events: [ifrom [urlhttp://tooserious.net/orffa-rnd-6-results-ladder-and-draft-headquarters/comment-page-7#comment-130508[/url[/i
TerryinBangkok says: June 21, 2012 at 4:15 pm That was #25 and does not help my decision at all….. Management at the Cockies really hope that he can return to Gariwerd and regain the trust of players and fans in the near future. But I really dig the guy you ended up picking. Ok, so the team is in... Round 7 vs Nunawading DEF: Hurn (C) Sellar MID: Priddis De Boer RUCK: ZSmith FWD: Tippett Clark INT: Wallis (VC) Masten Lower After our captains BOG last round, he is having an enforced rest this week, giving the captains duties to usual vc Shannon Hurn. There are no other players playing thid game who are in the leadership group so we have held a ballot amongst the players to determine who will be taking Matt Thomas' spot in the LG. the results have come in and young Mitch Wallis has been elected so he will be the VC for this weekend. We are really happy to have De Boer back in after his week off and we are even more excited to welcome new recruit, Nick Lower, into the side for his first game for the Cockies and his first ORFFA game fullstop. A noteable absentee is Angus Monfries, who was unlucky to miss out last week, but we have decided to keep him out for another as he has had a tumultuous time of late. While Christianaldo Ronaldo was over, he was able to go to some private parties with him and has been cock-a-hoop ever since and we just didnt think he was going into the game with the right attitude this week. We are playing bottom placed Nunawading, but from all reports they have the their best side in all season and are quietly confident of a shock result. We are coming off a big win though and the confidence is high. We expect to come out winners by the end of the weekend, putting on another fine display for our home fans.
There's been a late change, with Zach Smith having a rest this week, we have moved Sellar into the ruck and Sylvia into the backline as an OOP player. We had only just delisted Lachie Hansen a week or two ago, and he has been named for the Kangaroos today. Could have been handy with all my defenders out of action this week.
No time for a match report for round 7 unfortunately, but we had a big win - Gariwerd 813 defeated Nunawading 669 - and here are the votes: Best & Fairest results for Round 7: 3 - Nick Lower 2 - Shannon Hurn 1 - Matt De Boer And The Leaderboard to date: 6 - Matt Priddis, Shaun Burgoyne, Brett Deledio 5 - Shannon Hurn 4 - Mitch Clark, Kurt Tippett, Matt De Boer 3 - Matt Thomas, Nick Lower 1 - Cale Morton Heres the team for Round 8 against Nama We began our walk over to the the game the day after our R7 game. Def: Delidio Hurn (VC) Burgoyne (C) Gibson MID: Priddis Masten DeBoer Wallis RUCK: ZSmith FWD: Tippett Milne Sylvia Stratton* INT: Lower BSmith Em: Sellar (D) magner (M) Polec (F) Young Stratton is having a run up fwd this week, with last weeks BOG, Nick Lower, starting on the bench. Notable absentees are Angus Monfries and Matt Smith who both still find themselves on the outer.
The reason you're walking is because the Nuffers stole your team bus. Nice set up. We are appreciating the amenities on the way to Birdsville. You don't beat the Nuffers at home without paying a toll.
