Also, we'll be making my own way there, so we won't need to hitch a ride with you anymore :) No worries about the transport mate. We're happy to be playing in front of some more of our loyal QLD supporters and look forward to what we're sure will be a huge pro-Birdsville crowd. :) Just one downside though mate. The short notice re: the change of venue has not endeared the Cockatoos to our loyal band of travelling supporters, some of whom travel from overseas, as they now look like being substantially out of pocket with the relocation. As you can see below, some of them were quite annoyed when we made the announcement. <img class='ForumImage' src='http://s1.favim.com/orig/5/artsy-crowd-florida-fuck-you-people-Favim.com-161508.jpg[/img]

Our sponsors are delighted to hear how far the news of this game has reached! We had no idea you had a supporter base outside of QLD, let alone The Merica! Fear not, they can still head to Gariwerd as originally planned, as we'll be streaming the game live on a huge screen for our local supporters who have also been shitty at the late decision. There will be enough rum to go around and a penguin pie for all :)

Not a great result for us in the Bundy Cup on the weekend, but we're still kickin' it in Bundaberg, having a laugh and a great time before we head down to Gundagai this weekend, continuing our mammoth road trip. We still have the whole squad with us (even Tippett has been enjoying himself and has continued on with the team since the Whitsunday adventures) and for our next leg, we're travelling 1500km down the Newell Hwy to come up against Gundagai. It was Tom Murphy who was responsible for him, with big Josh Gibson doing a terrific job on JB. Tom would have been hoping to do a bit better after forcing his way back into the team. Here's the votes: 3 - Burgoyne 2 - Cooney 1 - Gibson And the leaderboard: 7 - Deledio 5 - Cooney 4 - Burgoyne, Masten 2 - Hurn 1 - Lower, Gibson

The Cockies have now left Bundaberg and are making our way down to Gundagai for the next leg of our 5 game road trip. Next week, we are traveling to Iron Knob for the BL Remembrance Round. If y'all remember, last year, the Cockies walked all the way to Nama (and back) for the game against the Nungas, due to security concerns for any vehicles in the vicinity of their home ground. To remember our fallen hero, BigLance, we are going to make the trek from Gundagai to Iron Knob on foot next week. Now, that is an estimated 250 hours walking time, so we're gonna have to run most of the way and it still may take the full week to get there just in time for the round 6 game. To conserve our energy for the journey, we are traveling in style to Gundagai at the moment: <img alt='' width='454' height='340' src='http://aphs.worldnomads.com/anita/8477/chicken_bus.jpg' id='irc_mi' style='margin-top: 145px;[/img]

Final team has been announced for the game this week against Gundagai. Tom Murphy is very lucky to hold his spot after the dismal display he put on last week attempting to hold Trav Cloke. He has Brodie Smith, Ben Stratton and Jaspar Pittard biting at his heals for that last defender's spot, so he will need to perform this week or he'll be in the Magoos next week. Our only change this week is Bleese coming in for Clark. We're just giving Mitch Clark a bit of a rest before our trip to Iron Knob. anthak wrote:Gariwerd Cockatoos @ Gundagai In: Bleese Out: Clark Def: Burgoyne (C), Hurn (VC), Gibson, Tmurphy (EM: BSmith) Mid: Deledio, Masten, Cooney, Wallis (EM: Lower) Ruck: O'hAilpin Fwd: Gray, De Boer, Christenson, Sylvia (EM: ZSmith - OOP) Int: KStevens, Bleese (EM: Pittard) We've got our trek planned out for next week and we've noticed an amazing thing that wasn't planned at all. We'll be making our way from Gundagai to Iron Knob on foot to commemorate our former comrade, BigLance, and we'll actually be passing by Namatjira on the way! We're now planning to stop in to the Nunga's home ground for May Day (May 1st) and BL has agreed to run a training session for us, before we head on to Iron Knob for the Round 6 game. It will be our only training session for the week as we are on a tight schedule. /Portals/0/User%20Images/walk%20map.jpg' style='width: 705px; height: 370px; <div>
<div>So, as soon as the final siren sounds this weekend, we'll be heading off; we wont have time to socialise or even get changed. We've got 630km to travel to get to Namatjira by Wednesday arvo in time for our training session. That is approximaely 15 marathons all up and if we ran each one in world record time, it would take us about 30 hours to do; given we will have about 75 hours to do it in, we're confident we'll make it in time. <div>
<div>Then after our light training session and May Day festivities, we'll get back on the road again for the next stretch from Namatjira to Iron Knob, which is about 600km, or 14.25 marathons. Given the slight reduction in time that we have for that leg (about 45 hours) and that we will surely be getting tired by then, this 2nd leg is the one we're worried about, but we're still confident we'll make it to Iron Knob in time for the match. Luckily we'll still have our footy gear on and will be able to run straight out onto the ground and through the banner as we arrive. <div>
Not sure if y'all know, but during the offseason, we went to Iron Knob to do a bit of reconnaissance and we found an awesome camping ground for us to camp at. anthak wrote:Hey JimBowen, I'm currently on a road trip on my way from Perth to Brisbane. We originally planned to camp in Kimba tonight, but just this morning, a mate of mine (who had left Perth 6 days earlier than us, but headed for Melbs) called me up to let me know about a free camping ground that he stayed at. And it was at none other than Iron Knob! Since it was only an hour further than where we originally planned to camp, I couldn't resist the opportunity to go and scope out the oppositions turf for our round 6 match in 2013.

And it's been a fantastic reccie too! As Round 6 is BL Remembrance round, the Cockies plan to walk to Iron Knob as we did to Namatjira last season, so it's great to find out that there's a free camping ground for the boys to sleep at while we're there. With a BBQ, toilets, shower and all!

I'm looking fwd to our trip already. After the game, we'll be heading there for a well earned rest, before making our way, on foot again, back to Gariwerd, which will bring to an end our epic 5 week road trip (from 05/04/13 to 10/05/13). But we cant get ahead of ourselves just yet as this last stretch will surely be the most challenging after living it up in QLD in the Whitsunday and Bundaberg for most of it.

Day 1 of our race to Iron Knob is done and we're making excellent ground. <div>
<div>We managed a win in Gundagai and got going as soon as the final siren sounded. The game was a very low scoring affair, and we were lucky to win this week as we were not playing as hard as usual with our coming weeks' travels in mind. <div>

If you look hard, you will see Snoz behind all the players, in the light. I think he's praying for a better performance from his team next week. Gundagai was a top 4 team in 2012 and are yet to win a game this season - I think we copped them at a good time.
We've been on the road now for about 27 hours or so. We're making good time as we're almost at Hay (NSW) already which is more than 300km from Gundagai. We ran up through Junee and Coolomon on our way to Narrandera, where we stopped for a feed. When, we get to Hay, we'll have less than 300km to get to Namatjira, so we're gonna sneak in a bit of shuteye. Its looking like we'll actually make it to Nama Wednesday morning, which will be better for us; we'll have our training session soon after arriving and then join the May Day rally, walk on the march and use it a bit like a slingshot into the next leg of our trek.

We're about 50 hours into our trek and we're still on track to reach Namatjira tomorrow (wednesday) morning.
After a snooze at Hay, the boys were up and were in amazing form, reaching Balranald in just 8 hours time! Thats 135km in 8 hours! Amazing. [span style='font-size: 14.666666984558105px;They kept it up too. After stopping for a feed in Balranald, it took just 5 hours to cover the 80km to Robinvale, where we are now having a bit of a rest.
Kurt Tippett didnt realise we were gonna be spending any time in Victoria and decided to leave the group in protest as we crossed the border near Robinvale. We thought things were going quite well with him fitting back into the team, but it is obviously clear that he still has some reservations about returning to Victoria and Gariwerd. If we cannot work out a trade for him, we may need to delist him as he has requested, but we still hope to convince him to return to Gariwerd at some stage of the season.
We've got about 90km to travel in the morning to get to Namatjira, where we'll be spending a fair chunk of the day.

So, to sum it all up... We didnt get much sleep last night. We took our time a bit, compared to yesterday, and took 7 hours to travel the 90 km to Namatjira, arriving early morning.
The locals did a welcome to country and then BigLance took the boys for a light training run. Afterwards, we all sat around and had a good ol' yarn about a number of things - the first year of the two ORFF comps; the way that Namatjira was decommissioned for draft tampering; our trek this year compared to the one from Gariwerd to Nama in round 8 last year; and the match back then, that was Namatjira's first win in the ORFFA.
We then all headed to Mildura for the MayDay rally. As guest of honour in the town, our captain - Shaun Burgoyne - was able to read a statement (written by a number of North American activist groups [[url=http://libcom.org/forums/north-america/mayday-remembering-past-fighting-tomorrow-01052013' target='_blankmore info can be found here[/url to give a short history of MayDay at the start of the speakers list. Here is the statement he read:

This memorable day began as a rally of striking workers who were demanding an eight-hour work day, climaxing with a bomb produced by an unknown individual while the police dispersed the peaceful rally. The blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians; scores of others were wounded. <p style='font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; color: #1f1e23; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-variant: normal; <p style='font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; color: #1f1e23; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-variant: normal;Eight anarchists were convicted of conspiracy during the legal proceedings that followed. After all of the speakers, we all headed of on an ol' fashioned march through the streets of Mildura. [span style='font-size: 13px; color: #000000;We're gonna have a decent sleep tonight and plan to arrive in nearby Lyrup at about 6:43 for sunrise. Wow, its been such a hectic last couple of days that we havent had time to stop and report an update! We're almost at Iron Knob and we've announced our team for the game: Gariwerd @ Iron Knob In: Brodie Smith, Zachary Smith Out: Sam Bleese, Setanta O'hAilpin Def: Burgoyne (C), Hurn (VC), Gibson, Tmurphy (EM: Pittard) Mid: Deledio, Masten, Cooney, Wallis (EM: Lower) Ruck: ZSmith Fwd: Gray, De Boer, Christenson, Sylvia (EM: Bleese) Int: KStevens, BSmith (EM: Stratton) Unfortunately, Setanta and Bleese are just two worn out to play in a match when we arrive, so we've had to omit them. At the moment, we're running along the Eyre Hwy and have not long ago crossed the Myall Creek, so we're pushing it with just an hour til the game is scheduled to start, but we'll make it on time. We considered letting the 15 players who are actually playing in the game run ahead to ensure they get there on time, but the group wanted to stick together on this and all arrive at the same time. We'll see you soon JimBowen!!

Well, what a drama that turned out to be. We rocked up at the ground and found out that there weren't any players required to actually play tonight from either team. We pushed ourselves so much to get here in time... All the players are having a good sleep tonight, so some good has come of it. Surely the rest will do us good and we're confident of putting on a decent display in the game.

We've had some iron on patches made up and we expect all our players to have them on their jumpers by our round 8 game at the latest.

Nice. Expect you will be chasing indigenous players in the mid-season draft.
