    Nice. Expect you will be chasing indigenous players in the mid-season draft. the more the merrier :) Unfortunately we had to delist Alwyn Davey at the end of last season, but he has been training with us and playing in our reserves team. He's making a good case for us to draft him again, absolutely smashing it in the magoos.

    The match is over and the team is getting a good sleep in tonight at the Iron Knob Community Camp that we scoped out during the off season. We think the mammoth trek from Gundagai actually did take a toll as, not only did we miss a few players (O'hAilpin, Clark, Bleese) who were too buggered to play, we put in a shocking display of footy in the match, with many players well down on form. We had a few players play well, with a special mention to Christensen who was just stunning, but we were no match for the Codpeces, who had matchwinners coming from everywhere just running all over us. Here's the scores: <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Gariwerd @ Iron Knob <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000; <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;GARIWERD COCKATOOS <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Def: Burgoyne (C) 56, Hurn (VC) 118, Gibson 86, Tmurphy 74 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Mid: Deledio 46, Masten 125, Cooney 87, Wallis 29 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Ruck: ZSmith 69 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Fwd: Gray 85, De Boer 63, Christenson 177, Sylvia 92 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;Int: KStevens 81, BSmith 90 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;TOTAL: 1278 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000; <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;IRON KNOB CODPIECES <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;B - Hanley 93, Grima 57, Harbrow 135, Garland 86 <p style='margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 10.666666984558105px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 12pt; outline: 0px; color: #000000;M - Ablett 137, Shuey 139, N.     And the B&F votes: Hard to give votes this week, cause (despite their scores) almost everyone got completely toweled up by their direct opponent! 3 - Christensen (unstoppable! BOG) 2 - BSmith (in his first game of the season) 1 - KStevens (tried hard)

    Now, we gotta regroup quickly, cause we've still got the arduous task of making our way on foot back to Gariwerd in time for our Round 7 match against Cradle Mountain. When we finally get back on country, it will be the first time we've been home in over a month!! It will only be a short stay too, before we head off on another big road trip, which will also incorporate a midseason holiday for the players. We expect to be away from 17/5 to about the 20/6, so we have a number of community events planned in and around Gariwerd for next week before we head off.

    We made it past half way today in our trek back to Gariwerd and despite still having their tails between their legs after the big loss and a slight mishap last night, the boys are tracking well and looking forward to being back on home turf again, after so long away.
    We had our shortest day of the week today as we covered about 150km and we're staying near Coonalpyn, SA, tonight, so we've only got about 400km to go over Thursday, Friday combined.
    Now, last night, we camped at the Rocky Paddock camping ground in the Mount Crawford Forest and when we thought everyone was asleep, a couple of players (names may not be released) decided to go for a bush walk and one of them fell down an old mine shaft! Luckily, only one of them went down and the other came back to the camp site and thankfully fessed up and we were able to fish ol' mate out of there. He's pretty badly hurt, and is traveling in our motorcar convoy thats joined us on the whole trip so far, for the extremely injured players and the Sports Scientist to travel in. We are not sure yet on whether or not he'll be able to pull up for the game on the weekend, so there may be a shock omission in our selected side this round - we'll wait and see.
    Tomorrow, we hope to travel at least 190 km to get us back on Jardwadjali country where we'll camp on one of the lakes to the west of Djurite.

    Feel for you and the team Ant. We have been experimenting with levitation and time travel to offset the impact of travel on player recovery. While not conclusive, the results are encouraging. When coupled with the almost unbelievable run of luck the Waikiks are experiencing our form seems to have improved. It is, however, possible that time travel in itself increases luck in the next continuum - an hypothesis that the Q based injured members of the Waikiks (Messrs Maguire, Staker and Weller) are testing. We hope that results of the tests will be available to the whole ORFFA community before the next draft round.

Please dont have any sympathy Chels; while we probably didnt actually realise what we would be in for, we did choose to do this walk (and run) for our round 6 game in solidarity with BigLance. It was fantastic to be able to catch up with him during the trek too! Love your research of the effect of time travel on injuries. I hope that you will be able to present your final report to the rest of us.
    Anyway, we made it back to Halls Gap on time yesterday. We had a great time on our trek, but it does fell really great to be back home after more than a month on the road. <div>
    Here's our team for this round: anthak wrote: Gariwerd Cockatoos in a rare home game OUT: Kobe Stevens (unluckily ommitted after picking up 1 vote in the b&f last start), Chris Masten (mine shaft injury) IN: Nick Lower, Ben Stratton Def: Burgoyne (C), Hurn (VC), Gibson, Tmurphy (EM: Pittard) Mid: Deledio, Lower, Cooney, Wallis (EM: KStevens) Ruck: ZSmith Fwd: Gray, De Boer, Christenson, Sylvia (EM: Bleese) Int: BSmith, Stratton (EM: Toumpas) Yes, it has been revealed that it was Chris Masten who fell down the mine shaft the other day. And it was Kobe Stevens who was with him at the time, and even though he was in the b&f votes last match, the other members of the leadership group decided it was best to omit him from this weeks game. We have named him as an emergency, although he will only be called up if absolutely necessary.

    Thanks to everyone for coming out to the match on the weekend. We had a huge crowd for our only home game in Gariwerd over more than 2 months. <div>We're gonna spend a bit of time in the area this week, before we head off for the second half of that 2 months. <div>
    <div>We had a great game too, with the crowd riding us home with a big comeback win, led largely by Zach Smith in the ruck. <div>

    4 of our senior players did not join us for the start of our 2nd big road trip of the season. Josh Gibson, Tom Murphy, Colin Sylvia and Mitch Wallis all asked to be able to spend a bit more time at home with their WaGs, and we allowed it, although we were upfront with them all that getting back into the side may not be so easy - especially Sylvia. We have suspended Sylvia for all remaining matches before the mid season break, as his refusal to take part against Venus Bay was particularly costly to the team, as it forced us to play an OOP player in the forward line - which ultimately led to the undoing of the side, as the halved players score saw us lose, in a close game. The players are noticeably down after the close loss, and because of the 2 LTIs picked up in the match - Zach Smith is out for the season after doing his knee and our Sports Scientist is working hard with young Jimmy Toumpas in an attempt to lessen the amount of time he'll miss and the prognosis has not been set yet. On the injury front, it should be noted that Masten made a successful comeback after just 1 game out following his nasty injury from falling down the mine shaft.

    We've headed off from Venus Bay, over to WA for our 2 week stint in the west, before the mid season break. Zach Smith (inj), Colin Sylvia (club imposed suspension) and Kurt Tippett (still sooking) are the only players who have not made the journey across. And after last weeks stand by 4 players, we have decided to fly over everyone's WaGs and children to join us in WA for these 2 weeks.

    Gariwerd are concerned about today's news article relating to required player, Kurt Tippett... <blockquote style='margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;
    Angry Tippett Jumping off Walls: Dan Hanneberry
    It has been revealed today that Gariwerd player, Kurt Tippett, has been staying in Waikikamoocow country with Dan Hanneberry and is soon to request a trade to the NZ based ORFFA club. </blockquote> <blockquote style='margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;
    With Tippett's Cockatoo teammates heading off on a trip to WA in the lead up to the mid season trade and draft period, Waikikamoocow's up and coming star, Dan Hanneberry, has revealed that Kurt has been staying with him, training with the club and is hopeful a trade can be brokered allowing him to continue his ORFFA career in NZ.
    Tippett is apparently outraged at his current club's refusal to consult Waikikamoocow's management about the relocation of the round 10 match to Kalgoorlie and that he wasn't invited on the trip, after he conducted himself well on their early season trip in the north east of Australia. Apparently Kurt felt that he made a big effort and fit in well with his teammates and staff on that trip and was expecting an invite to attend the WA road trip.
    Hanneberry has stated that its been fantastic to have him around and that he is extremely keen to be able to play with Waikikamoocow:
    'It's really quite annoying how he jumps out of bed in the morning and punches the air and he's got so much energy,' Hannebery said before training on Wednesday.
    'It's quite frustrating trying to make my breakfast and seeing him with so much energy and I have a lack of.'
    'No, he's really up and about, he's jumping off the walls ready to play.' </blockquote><blockquote style='margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;
    'When you're not playing footy for that period of time, there's no doubt you want to get out there and play, whether it's twos or ones or whatever level.'
    'He's frustrated, he wants to show what he's capable of and have an impact for the team.'
    Tippett had originally asked Gariwerd to trade him during this years pre season trade period, and when a deal did not eventuate, he requested to be delisted allowing him to enter the pre season draft. Gariwerd did not comply with that request and have been reportedly hopeful of convincing him to return to the club, but with negotiations at a halt, they allowed Kurt to return home (unknown if that is in NSW or QLD) until mid season where the situation would be reassessed. It seems that it was not known to Gariwerd that Kurt was in NZ at all, let alone training with a rival club.
    Gariwerd administration have been uncontactable, when we attempted to approach them about this issue; however, head coach anthak has previously stated: 'Kurt is a valued member of our team and we see him as an important member of our forward line into the future' - and he was sorely missed on the weekend, when fielding an Out-Of-Position player in the forward line cost them a Round 8 win at Venus Bay.
    It is sure to be an interesting time during the mid season break. </blockquote>
    We would like to report that we are unaware of any attempt to contact us about this issue and are concerned about the validity of the claims within it, especially as Kurt has not been quoted within the article. We have meetings set up with Kurt's management closer to the mid season break and will not be making any further comment on this issue - until we are confident on what's actually happening.

And after last weeks stand by 4 players, we have decided to fly over everyone's WaGs and children to join us in WA for these 2 weeks. The natives have been alerted, incoming women..... The flower shop is already out of stock. As Cockatoos, most of the couples are poly too :) After half a carton many Misfit's wont care :p polyamorous, I meant... and, I've just received news that half our players are making themselves unavailable for the game after hearing the news of the keenness of the Marble Bar locals - so we may have trouble fielding a side this week. Let me tell you, it is disappointing that Col Sylvia and his SO are not making the trip, cause they're certainly very active in this regard and a lot of fun! <img alt='' width='316' height='421' src='http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2011/08/01/1226106/243418-colin-sylvia.jpg' id='irc_mi' style='margin-top: 105px;[/img] Here they are, back in Gariwerd while the majority of the rest of the team are in WA.

    Our first game in WA has turned out pretty good. We made a few changes to our team again, but still had 15 players willing to bull the boots on. Not surprisingly, our non-playing players and all the WaGs were not at the game watching as they were preoccupied with other activities in Marble Bar. Here's the results: Lenh191 wrote: <table width='684' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0' border='0' style='border-collapse: collapse; width: 514pt; <col width='441' style='width: 331pt;[/img] <col width='34' style='width: 26pt;[/img] <col width='31' style='width: 23pt;[/img] <col width='48' style='width: 36pt;[/img] <col width='61' style='width: 46pt;[/img] <col width='69' style='width: 52pt;[/img] <tr height='25' style='height: 18.75pt; <td class='xl67' style='height: 18.75pt; width: 331pt;Gariwerd <td align='right' style='width: 26pt;1 <td align='right' style='width: 23pt;2 <td align='right' style='width: 36pt;3 <td align='right' style='width: 46pt;4 <td style='width: 52pt;Total

    BTW ant, we are prepared to throw in a Waikik Frozen Yoghurt and Smoothy franchise in Kal as part compensation for Kurt 'Titirangi' Tippett.

I thought your ice cream venture was already alive and strong in WA. I see your ice cream stand at the Fremantle farmers market every Sunday ;) For a bit of background about this comment, there has been a bit of light shed on the Tippett saga by Chels in another thread: chels wrote:Ah, the subtle marketing campaign through the national press is working. All members of the Waikik footy club present at the recent fund raiser were visibly moved when Kurt, in a tribute to the late Peter Allen, sang 'I'd like to call Waikik home.' Local identity chels commented: 'We will move heaven and earth to make the trade work. However, our young stars are not on the table.' Tippett was visibly moved when contemplating being delivered the Sherrin on a plate for many years by the likes of Hibberd, Fyfe, Hannebery, Crouch, Mitchell and Graham. 'Wow, just wow' he offered, then showing a first hint of coming to grips with the Maori language 'Titirangi*, bloody titirangi.' In what was perhaps a portent of things to come chels revealed that he had recently picked up Kurt as a free agent in the Centrebet Pro League. Happy to talk ant, happy to talk. * Titirangi - the literal translation is 'the fringe of heaven.' Also the best golf course in Waikik country. anthak wrote:Thanks for the reply Chels. It's good to have some idea what's going on. We have purposefully not been willing to comment publicly at this stage, because we have been unable to contact Kurt since it became a media event. Also, I trust you remember that the game this weekend is in Kalgoorlie, WA. I guess it will be a little like time travel for you, as I would presume you'll leave NZ at about the same time you arrive in Kal. I would like to take this opportunity to formally request that you bring Tippett with you, so that we can all sit down and yarn about his situation altogether. We are happy to pay the travelling expenses for him for you. and we noticed his new nickname. Nice. As you can see, we have requested that Waikikamoocow bring Tippett over to Kal for this weeks game and we can try and work out a suitable resolution.

    Do any of you Adelaide supporters have a feeling of deja vu about now? We all know how this is going to turn out, don't we?
    BTW, hope this 'saga' is having the desired impact on advance ticket sales.

    The Kalgoorlie locals are even trying to buy tickets to our meeting where we'll be discussing a potential trade. What do you think about that? Are you willing to do that in front of an audience?
